Does anyone else ever feel empty, like they're a computer simulation of what other people actually feel?

this may seem nerdy, but I was listening to a Harry Potter audiobook, and I realized I had literally no memories that could be used to summon a patronus, that is, no memories that give me a sense of joy and happiness.

my earliest memory, one that I've revisited over my entire life is me standing in my preschool and looking at a distant building ( a hotel, that was demolished following an earthquake) and feeling like there was an indescribable distance between me and whatever was represented by that building.

I've spent my entire life watching the world through a haze that separates me from the outside world. it feels physical, like something between my eyes and my brain.

what happens to people like me? do we find a way to feel like we've found that building on the horizon or do we...

Like I look at people all excited for transformers and ninja turtles and I just don't feel anything like nostalgia. I think maybe these people ar eunhappy and they remember a happier time when they were kids and these films and retro t-shirts give them the burst of memory they need to cheer up but I was always a miserable little twat so I don't feel nostalgia.

Get therapy and find something you can get into to make you feel feelings again.

ive always been extra sensitive, and I was taught at a young age that I was wrong for it, so I kind of shut my feelings down. I remember being at my grandmothers funeral when I was 13 and looking at people crying and having a distinct feeling that they were putting on a show for the sake of others. been on anti-depressants for years, but it kind of spawned a nasty alcohol/drug problem after the initial novelty of happiness wore off and I felt like I was living a lie. it was pointed out to me by a good therapist that when I did have positive times, after they were over, I had a problem remembering that I had the experience or the ability to feel that way at all. my base emotion was not so obviously depression but kind of like a numbness.
