Any rudeboy will tell you music like 2-tone and dub are REAL ska, not this 'ska punk' bullshit. I only got into reel big fish once cause I wanted to hear something different and then I got bored a couple years later.

i never liked ska and tbh when I was in high school and it was 'popular' it was good because I could instantly identify internet nerdlinger goons because they'd just love ska and told you all about it. I feel like that opinion was maybe a little harsh because who cares really so if you like ska then I'm sorry. Just not my cup of tea, though.

Ska was kind of cool when I was a dumb bitchass teenager. Even then I could not get into anything besides Streetlight Manifesto despite trying very hard because it's a quintessential trash genre for dorky teenage white boys. If not in body, then in spirit.

the worst thing about ska is the sad-sack aw-shucks demeanor and lyrics the vocalists styles himself after. poo poo's so annoying. Streetlight is cool because they aim at bigger ideas or interesting little short stories, Choking Victim has rage and fury. I mean, at least it's something that's not "whoopsie! poor me! heart got hurt again! I hope you're OK!" What's the origin of this poo poo?

Most american ska bands just use an angrier guitar and misuse the horns, if you listen to The Beat, you notice how all the instruments are laid back and don't need to get into a hissy fit, and the horns get more attention. What I'm saying is reel big fish are a bunch of posers and streetlight manifesto need to take a chill pill.

Then America picked up on this and started making ska revival bands (most of them just being ska-punk) and only their own people liked it, thus making ska uncool forever.
