Untrustworthy faces:

*unless it's about the Leafs

Trustworthy Faces:

Big dudes maybe available:

Forwards

Eric Staal - Carolina is still in it so maybe not, but if they decide to trade him there will be no shortage of suitors.

Andrew Ladd - Winnipeg re-signed Buff, which means Ladd's days there are likely numbered. - SOLD to the Chicago Blackhawks

Milan Lucic - Seems extremely unlikely with the Kings being a strong contender, but he is a UFA and will likely command a big price in free agency.

Radim Vrbata - Vancouver is apparently not allowed to rebuild so it's likely they hold onto him, but if something changes between now and then he'd be a good get

Loui Eriksson - As with Lucic, probably won't be moved due to team being a contender.

Jiri Hudler - Production is down a bit this year, but he's a good veteran scorer

Michael Grabner - He's still a solid player and as he's a UFA the Leafs will likely part with him for a pick. Good third line checker.

PA Parenteau - Veteran scoring option

David Legwand - Getting old but can probably still help a team's bottom six

Kyle Okposo - Probably no chance he moves with the Isles in it. Even if they don't think they can keep him they'll probably hold onto him for their playoff run

Mikkel Boedker - May command more money than Arizona wants to pay.

Defense:

Dan Hamhuis - See: Vrbata. If Vancouver is allowed to move him teams will definitely want him.

Keith Yandle - Doubt the Rangers move him with Mcdonagh being hurt but maybe they'd consider it if they don't think they can re-sign him

I think that about covers the list of players that actually are worth a poo poo

RFAs

Tyson Barrie - If Colorado opts not to keep him (they'd be dumb) they'll get a haul for Barrie

Brayden Schenn - He's never lived up to his billing as a top prospect but still a useful player.

Sami Vatanen - I feel like I've heard his name bandied about but I don't see why the Ducks would move him

PK Subban - lol Bergevin

There's others, but those are the ones that have been variously rumored to move. Also we may see some :siren: hockey trades :siren: but as those are difficult to predict I haven't speculated on that.

Feel free to discuss what your poo poo team will do at the deadline.

If Murray can get a bag of pucks for Legwand he won the trade. Not sure why anyone would want him he is out of gas. McGinn is a likely sell though and not for a whole lot. He is a decent top 6 plug, but can't play on a checking line (but lets hope nobody notices this).

Thank you for making this thread.

I'm not sure how I feel about this as a Leafs fan. I mean, the trade deadline has been there the entire season as this sort of "sell all the upcoming free agents and really go in to the tank" moment, but the Leafs don't seem to have any actually exciting trades to make. Sure Parenteau and Polak are gone — probably Boyes and Hunwick too — but they're not going to get anything interesting back. If all four of those players go, the net haul is probably going to be something like two thirds, a fifth, and two sixths.

So the Leafs are going to do a lot, but it probably won't be very interesting.

Any goalies realistically available? I doubt Dallas would pick someone up but the two headed finn isn't exactly working out all that great. I'd love to give reimer a shot with an actual nhl team in front of him.

I don't know if they're available, but Reimer, Cam Ward, Ramo, Hiller, and Backstrom are among the "top" UFA goalies

e: As for the Penguins, I imagine they're in the market for bottom six forward help. Their top six is more or less set since they love Kunitz. Their defense isn't ideal but I don't know that they can afford a top 4 guy either in assets or cap space.

Chicago needs defensemen so that Duncan Keith doesnt need to play 45 minutes every game in the playoffs again. Unfortunately they have some very bad contracts that even Jim Benning isnt dumb enough to take on so they would need to give up actual good players to do this.

It'll be interesting if they try and move any of Komarov, Reimer, Bozak or JVR though. Parenteau could fetch higher than a third, he's been about as good as Winnik was the year he got a 2nd. I wouldn't be surprised to see both Grabner and Matthias gone, they've both made something of a reputation for penalty kill specialists. Cowen bundled with someone like JVR/Komarov along with a salary dump coming back could net a fantastic return from cap teams, better than the Franson/Santorelli return.

To be honest I don't know who wants Polak or Hunwick, they've both been very very bad.

Third line wing maybe. Wilson has been okay there but his underlying numbers suck and I would imagine that line will slump soon.

Honestly I'm good with the Caps standing pat (or magically offloading Orpik). I'm also good with them getting a few depth pieces for cheap. I just don't want them to make another move like last year where they give up a second and a third for Glencross.

And please don't trade for Roman Polak he is no good. No need for two Orpiks on the ice.

Oilers are sellers for what feels like the billionth season in a row, so I don't really expect many surprises. Justin Schultz is most likely getting traded on or before Feb. 29th, which by itself will make the team a million times better. Only 2 UFAs in Purcell and Gryba. Purcell's likely gone for a 2nd, I'm not sure whether or not Gryba will get traded although I hope he is.

As for any big moves, I doubt the Oilers will do anything until the off-season. Friedman already said that they weren't trading Eberle before the deadline on Saturday, and I doubt they move Nuge until they figure things out in the off-season. So this will probably be another boring trade deadline for the Oilers aside from the rental trades.

What attitude problem?
We keep hearing that the cap may go down as much as $4 million next year because of the Canadian dollar. War On Ice seems to have the best cap tools available with capgeek gone. Does the cap potentially going down so large affect who buys? And is it possible we see more teams trying offload longer contracts with draft picks attached to prepare for it?

I also saw that Yzerman came out and said he will not trade Stamkos at the deadline. Offseason is going to be messy.

This could be a shitshow in advance of a dropping Cap if that happens.

JD talked at length about the CBJ's Deadline earlier on Puck-Rakers. Tyutin and Hartnell could possibly be on the move, but the youth sounds like it's staying intact.

http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/content/blogs/puck-rakers/2016/02/building-not-rebuilding.html

Tyutin's going to wind up a $4.5M/yr third-pairing defenseman so I could live with him being moved, but Hartnell needs to stick around if they're going to "score by committee". He's in a three-way tie for the team lead at 37 points.

Sweet tricks, mom.
Re: Babby Schenn, I can't imagine the Flyers don't get him re-signed by the end of the season because he's been the 4th-6th highest scorer on the team literally every year other than his rookie season. This year he's only behind Giroux, Voracek, and Simmonds, and as Simmonds starts creeping towards 30 I wouldn't be surprised if they swap places (though Simmonds is only 27, huh. Would've guessed 29 to be honest)

He's never gonna be the top scorer on this team, with Giroux/Jake and probably soon Ghost ahead of him, but unless Couturier can finally get his offensive game going I think he's going to be in that 4-6 slot for points on this team for a long rear end time, and Hextall won't let that go unless he gets a really good deal

YKNOW THERES ONLY ONE DIRECTION I KNOW AND THATS DRIVIN STRAIGHT TO THE NET
I don't think the Flyers are going to be that active at the deadline, possibly moving one or two of Gagner, Streit, or Medvedev. On defense I'm guessing Streit since he's got the most name recognition. Or Medvedev since he's a UFA after this season. The Flyers can't retain any more salary in trades this season so Schultz and MacDonald are definitely staying at least until the offseason. On the forward front I could see Sam Gagner get offloaded for a pick; Umberger's in the same boat as Schultz and MacDonald in that nobody's going to take him at full price.
