Why do we want to be King of anything? Taking on responsibility is what slowed down and caused to many arguments last time. We should go free agent; no ties, no responsibility to anyone but ourselves.

Just because we're not king, doesn't mean we can't rebuild Tadmor. Spend a few years in Batiel learning architecture, come home, beat up some guys for money, use the money to fund rebuilding projects.

I'm not even the slightest bit interested in spending another three years building the Kavodel 2.0 only to have a tide of demons fade us to black. Personal power is everything. If we were stronger the demons wouldn't have eaten us. I want to find out about the world. Aren't you guys even a little curious about the Horse people? Or Seir? Or literally anything? So we rebuild the donut, ok. Then what? What's our end goal?

Outrail posted:Why do we want to be King of anything? Taking on responsibility is what slowed down and caused to many arguments last time. The difference here is that Enkidel always had a limit to the amount of temporal power he was going to be allowed to have in Ur, and that's combined with his other boundaries. Being king of just Zepath and Kavodel, and never being allowed to engage with other cities? That would have been dull. Judah has the chance to become the king of one of Ur's more powerful cities, and freedom to wield the power and authority that comes with it far more decisively. Once we have a real kingdom going we can still have adventures, they'll just take the form of military campaigns against corrupt kings of the Donut and demons.

well if you thought kavodel was boring (there was a period where I was getting impatient with it for sure), it's actually dropping that for an adventure that got us to game over there. In addition to, you know, a bunch of poor decisions following that.

Remember how grandad broke the opposing army pretty much singlehandedly? And without him the city would have fallen? Imagine if he'd been beating up people a few days sprint away? We will be granddad, or Tuydia. If we leave the city our enemies will crush it unless it's a very quick strike and return. We learnt this in Mad God, We learnt this from Tuydia, we will learn it again and again. If we become the defender of a city we will be stapled to defending it. Why bother in the first place?

Outrail posted:Remember how grandad broke the opposing army pretty much singlehandedly? And without him the city would have fallen? Imagine if he'd been beating up people a few days sprint away? That's why uniting Ur is so important. The petty kings and their endless, pointless wars are weakening Ur immeasurably as time goes on. If we can stop this from happening, install loyal allies and governors in the other cities, and build a defensive network, Mankind will be able to mount the first real offense against demons since Labaras and Zepa. But you do raise a good point here, and effectively garrisoning Tadmor may be a problem. Hmm. Do we have any cousins, ah, born around the same time we were?
