Are you kidding? We are as gods. My phone does everything literally all the electric devices my family owned did, 20 years ago. There are many free youtube porn sites and vr porn is happening starting this year My neighbors play with drones, private spaceflight and space tourism are now happening, and hell, in just a few years at least some of our cars will be driving themselves. Just getting humans out of driver's seats is gonna save as many lives as penicillin. The future is now and its the best of all possible worlds.

Right now, we don't know to what degree we can slam the brakes on sealevel rise and exactly how it's going to affect us. And it's pretty horrifying. We also don't know what we're going to do with all the people who will soon loose their jobs to machines, as you pointed out. But it's not quite as unique as those other two issues. We've been there and done that on a smaller scale at least. It's still somewhat horrifying but that doesn't mean there aren't answers. Perhaps even desirable ones. Even if not, we'll deal one way or the other. There is no alternative.

I'm not saying that the automation is bad, but I think we're rapidly approaching a threshold where it's overwhelmingly replaced labor but have yet to furnish a way for former labor to exist in a meaningful or sustainable way and it's going to bite us all in the rear end

The full adoption of the self driving car will render the current consumer economy unrecognizable at the medium to lower levels. It just impacts too many aspects of labor, transportation, energy, infrastructure, land use, etc. to predict how average people will fare in a developed country.

As I mentioned, we've been here before during the industrial and information revolutions. We've established that we'll literally just invent poo poo for people to do, in the name of keeping the big wheel turning. I agree that we've a ways left to go though. I'd like if we would just rationally took care of everyone's basic needs as efficiently as possible, and I think that logistically it is probably already feasible. But getting everyone on the same page is much more difficult than growing enough food in the first place. I honestly wouldn't worry too much about it. We'll improvise answers as needed. Of course, we all have a duty to speak out when our collective improvisations are utter poo poo.
