I think we are witnessing right now on these very forums the creation of an advanced technology that detects and closes bad threads without comment. That's pretty cool.

This thread could be next.

I'm not saying that the automation is bad, but I think we're rapidly approaching a threshold where it's overwhelmingly replaced labor but have yet to furnish a way for former labor to exist in a meaningful or sustainable way and it's going to bite us all in the rear end

When I was a teenager automation was seen as a wonderful thing which would allow everyone to work 15 hour weeks for great money and have massive amounts of leisure time. That savings from increased efficiency would go to shareholders and not workers wasn't really foreseen. People were excited about machines doing high risk/soul destroying work freeing up human labour for safer, more "rewarding" jobs.

meanwhile we can use our brainwaves to control robotic limbs like it's motherfucking deus ex while other doctors/scientists have figured out how to use sound waves to gently manipulate objects so they can do very basic surgery without opening you up but yeah you're right we're just making smaller iphones

Does this mean that a doctor can use sound waves to manipulate a wiener if he shouts at it in a gentle frequency?

The brilliance of my posting illuminates the forums like a jar of shining gold when all around is dark
Like a forums plugin that automatically accepts tenbux from Jon Pop and Gagelion reregs and then says, "thanks for the cash, oh BTW banned" and then we don't even have to see one worthless post per account.

The machine isn't replacing your job; the people that run and own the machine are because they have a much greater capacity for work. Chances are if a machine can do your job it was probably lovely anyways if we're being fair. Sure living on welfare/ unemployment in a lovely neighborhood sucks, but nothing compared to eking out a living beating the land with hand tools.

In the year 2050 men will live on a terraformed mars, and women will live on cloud cities in Venus. Sex bots will have synthetic organs and service the needs of their respective populations. Automated ships will deliver eggs and sperm, but no human traffic. Earth is an abandoned hell hole.

visual prosthetics are in trials right now. apparently they've figured out how to get the hardware to work and have successfully wired them into brains, and now they're just working on the software.
