Now this is how do you a zombie game right. Pure, genocidal, fun. I still don't like the time limit gimmicks and the fact you can't do everything in one playthrough but the (re-)murder is just too drat satisfying to mind that as anything but a slight flaw. I love the broadsword. Before you get access to recipes and better weapons, it's the best thing you can find because it reliably one-shots zombies. One of the casinos actually has swords and axes put on walls as decoration - that place is a godsend on your first playthrough.

Now that'd just be mindless torture. What I had in mind was training him to play better and spare him the suffering of spending too much time in this twisted nightmare of a game. It's for his own good. Your suggestion does express the spirit of Bubsy perfectly though.
