People ought to be more excited about Re:Zero, since it's originally a web novel from Narou, the same place everyone's favourite shows Overlord and KonoSuba came from! It's got a Guy stuck in Another World and a Princess to Rescue or whatever and it's going to be great.

Alderamin in the Sky's been confirmed for Madhouse, sweet, I liked alot of what I read of the manga. Good art, good characters, good plot. Also, the MC is the spiritual descendant of Benjamin Franklin.

I read the first novel a couple of years ago and had these impressions:

Elsewhere darkgray posted:

Just finished Tenkyou no Alderamin vol 1 by Uno Bokuto. Picked it up because it showed up as #2 on the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! 2014 ranking. As usual, it didn't mean much.

Alderamin takes place in a fantasy world where "science" as a concept has been lost, and people rely on a religion surrounding four spirits of fire, water, wind and light to help them through the hardships of the day. Humans partner up with tiny sprites that can provide them with a particular attribute (be it hot flames or whatever), and the people of this world also find them useful in warfare.

Our hero, a 17-year-old super ultra mega genius who also happens to be incurably lazy, is persuaded by his longtime friend, the beautiful and red-haired super ultra mega skilled swordswoman on the cover, to join her at the officer academy, so she can fulfill her duty as a daughter of a great house by becoming a ranking member of the army.

As fate would have it, the ship taking them to the entrance exam sinks in a storm, and they float ashore in enemy territory, with a ragtag team of three other hopeful candidates, and a surprise guest in the form of a 12-year-old princess of the empire. Great rewards await them if they bring her back to the imperial court, but first they must cross hostile lands and make it over the war-torn border.

In other words, not that exciting. Mostly it's an average take on the underestimated hero turning out to be absurdly powerful trope. In this case he's a strategic genius, which brings to mind classics (?) like Ender's Game, only nowhere near as well executed. Its worst crime might be to name characters unreadable poo poo like Yatorishino Igusemu and Sarihasuragu Remion. I can still enjoy it, though. To some degree. Maybe not enough to buy the sequels.

Uhoh. The internet seas are pretty stormy over in Japan right now, after someone noticed that Love Live voice actress Nitta Emi (Honoka) probably starred in a porn video. Wonder how NHK feels about putting µ's on their prestigious New Year's Eve spectacle Kouhaku Uta Gassen last year.

You might not, but the voice actors are practically an idol group on their own by now, and nothing is more important to Japanese idol otakus than their waifu's virginity, as far as I can tell. This thing is covering half of Japan's Twitter trends at the moment.

It's Nishio Ishin's debut series, and the first two novels actually got published in English. And, uh, then went out of print, I think. Basically a detective series with dialogue that outshines even Bakemonogatari. To begin with. Then it goes superpowered battle anime in text form, somehow.
