He was right of course. Under normal circumstances both Wraithblade and Stricken where field agents of equal rank, but (in her mind) that didn't give him the right to speak to her like that.
She wasn't used to working in a team. Having others deal with the problems present. Already embarrassed by her inability to stop both he Gjaum and distant Overed shooter, she retreated to the one thing she was sure about : duty.

They had been given clear orders. Protect the trucks, get them back to base. The other agents where under attack, the Branch Chief was doing his thing with the Americans, time was of the essence.

She floated over to the densest cluster of cars. Turned to look directly at Wraithblade. Sent a priority override message via her Lifeline Sensor.

"Attention all nearby UGN forces. Code: Oni.
Emergency protocol is in effect. Releasing control block level one until situation has been rectified.

Be advised; imminent telekillnetic release."

A strange wind picked up around her, her eyes switching colour from a greyish blue to a dull white. There was a sudden thunderclap as her annihilation-field expanded, displacing and removing a layer of air.
Floating eerily in the midst of the abandoned vehicles, she withdrew into herself, adopting a mid air foetal position before finally exploding both literally and figuratively.

Wraithblade/William Jones - ER: 38% (Condition: 5/5, Awakened)

William's eyes shrank into pinpricks even before the shockwave had the time to reach his eardrums. This then, was the reason they kept her in such a tight leash. The agent was obviously highly unstable. William had known far too many of those. He tightened his grip on Tchernobog.

William spoke in his radio, with Stricken on the list of receivers. "The UGN agent-arbitrated unilateral emergency protocol", Williams said, in a voice as even as always, but this time with a sharp, cutting edge, "applies during situations where 1.) Loss of essential", a cold sort of weight was given that particular word, "UGN personnel cannot otherwise reasonably be prevented. 2) Completion of essential objectives cannot otherwise be guaranteed. And 3.), in those situations only ever if the harm is judged to be much less than the gain."

"In all other scenarios," he continued, his voice slowing down to an ominous crawl, "the Agent is to Escalate only with explicit permission from their superiors."

William said no more, but his disapproval was clear to all.

As he waited for the Colonel's response, William's message reached Ra'id's ears. Though no one could see him, he still gave in to the urge to roll his eyes. This, he mused, was always the danger of operating with Overed agents. It was necessary to grant them ample room for decisionmaking to prevent resentment and discontent, yet it also introduced plenty of unexpected variables into each and every operation plan. And of course, there was also the issue of egos...Overed personalities tended to be fragile ones. Though he did not raise his voice, Ra'id bid Foucault to activate its own transmitter, and broadcast a message for him that would not require him to exert his vocal cords.

"When it comes to regulations, Agent Wraithblade is correct," the Branch Chief's voice resonated through their commlinks. "We shall review escalation protocols later, Stricken." The artificial copy of Ra'id's voice did not sound cold (not more than usual, anyway), but there was a hint of steel to his voice that made it clear this was an order, and not up for debate. "But for now, we have more pressing matters to take care of. If you believe yourself to be in control, then you are to continue your mission as normal, and deliver the Gjaum's remnants to headquarters. Wraithblade, should you see any further signs of degeneracy, contact me at once before taking decisive action. Ex Machina out."

This would do the trick, he thought - an acknowledgement of Wraithblade's prudence to stroke his ego while simultaneously curtailing any compulsive control tendencies, and a simultaneous reprimand and vote of confidence for Stricken to keep her morale in top shape. It was the best he could do at the moment. Once the matter of Yokata Base was taken care of, then he could take a closer look.

Stranger
Keep in mind that all Overeds are at least peak-human in most areas. At Awakened an Overed in even slightly decent shape could easily lift someone one-handed or punch through tempered glass. This particular Overed is using Counterattack: General Destruction [d8]=9. Ties go to the PC, so the attack succeeds. That's one point of Damage if you just want to body slam him, or you can Seize Control to do something like grapple him but inflict no damage.

As you leap the gunman notices you out of the corner of their eye and his grin grows even bigger. He tosses the big quad-launcher aside and spreads his arms as though you were coming in for a hug. Then his arms and torso ignite. The flames aren't huge, only enough to scorch the paint of the car he's standing on and feel only a momentary pain as you make contact. Maybe this guy isn't used to dealing with other Overds or maybe you just didn't give him enough time to prepare. As the two of you topple off the top of the SUV he spits out a stream of angry curses and the aura of flames gutters out.

Rolling initiative for the two of you: Unnatural Speed [d8]=6 vs Unknown Overed [d4]=1. Make sure to let me know whether you were going for damage or not on your last attack

Blood Bath
The 13 beats your 10, inflicting 1 Damage. Since you won't be striking back since you're on total defense I'll give the soldier a roll to see if he puts two and two together: http://orokos.com/roll/381662. A tie, which goes in his favor, meaning he begins to see a bit of reason.

Blood surges up from your limbs, forming itself into a shield to take the force of the crude weapon, but although Tempest's work isn't pleasant it is clearly effective: this guy is strong. The swing tears through your bloody barrier, and leaves a long cut across your arm. The bleeding is instantly staunched without even a thought but it still leaves a sharp, searing pain from the ragged wound.

Seeing his strike land the soldier instantly vaults back, crouches and rolls and spins rapidly left and right: evasive maneuvers for a counterattack that just isn't coming. Now several yards away the soldier, with a confused look, hefts his weapon and gestures brusquely, "[What're you waiting for]" He sounds mad, but you can tell he's not sure what to do, "[What's the matter?! Chicken?]"

Ex Machina
Note to self: do a better job of remembering character backgrounds

There's a brief noise of confusion from the other line before the American responds, "Right, right, I forgot they had a Brit running things here." He clears his throat awkwardly, "Well, good! Because if you UGN jaggoffs had been involved it'd have been your last mistake! Now, you stay back and you tell your man not to set foot on base! We are more than capable of handling our own problems without help from the drat UG--" He's cut off by sounds in the background: yelling and gunfire.

"What's going on!? How the gently caress did they get down here! Quick get-" There's a clatter as the headset on the other end falls to the ground and then the sound of muffled yelling and more gunfire in the background for a few seconds before the radio cuts off in a burst of static. No attempts to try raise a response on this or any other Tempest frequency get any result.

Stricken
The cars aren't a small obstacle even at Inhuman...but somehow I think you'll manage. Lots of Cars [d8]=6. Yeeaah, you're fine.

The cars nearest Stricken simply fly apart: blasted into sand and individual components scattered here and there. The further cars are destroyed more roughly, sent tumbling away by a blast of gravitational force. A plume of dust rises up, a mixture of concrete and disintegrated Toyotas and Hondas. When the cloud clears the road is clear of obstacles...and somewhat flatter and rougher as the top layers of asphalt where blasted away.

You can practically hear UGN's media control department gnashing their teeth.

For Back Alley, were you going to load up the two Tempest soldiers into your car and drive along with the trucks, or did you want to hand them over to the UGN ground crew?

Ex Machina - ER: 36% (Condition: 5/5, Awakened)

As frequency after frequency yielded only bursts of static, Ra'id's fingers clenched into a fist, his knuckles gradually blackening as the blood flowing to them was cut off. He took a moment to stare at the base from a distance, and then his decision was made.

"Stricken, the situation has changed. Approach Yokata Air Base and investigate, keeping an eye out for likely False Hearts agents or Overed belonging to another terrorist group. Under no circumstances are Tempest personnel to be harmed. Prioritize speed over subtlety and secure the area, providing aid to Stranger and Bloodbath should the need arise. Wraithblade, if Tchernobog is capable of cutting a rift in space time, this would be the time to do so and place the truck and Gjaum remnants within for safekeeping. Once the remnants are properly secured, gather power and prepare for an Aetherstep intervention, just in case. I will lock down this area and begin tracking our enemies' movements for easier suppression. Ex Machina out."

It was a good thing that he had opted to focus his talents on the creation and usage of machinery, Ra'id mused. In a situation such as this one, tracking movements throughout the military base would have required massive amounts of raw Renegade power, but by strategically deploying dozens of Moreau-class flying units at the most likely points of action, almost the totality of the base could be kept under surveillance at all times. Efficiency combined with ingenuity was a potent combination.

((Time to do proper chiefy things and get this situation under control. Ra'id establishes surveillance and starts keeping track of activity within the base, as well as deploying his minions into position, using Syndrome Boost and Machine Minions for this roll. Result is 27, which should do the trick.))

Stuff like straight up teleportation or creating full on micro-dimensions is the stuff of Unique Powers, but you could always use a bit of spatial trickery with Syndrome Boost to do something like hide the truck in a building it wouldn't normally be able to enter or leave. That's probably be a d12 OF, tough at Awakened, easier at Inhuman.

Ex Machina
Trying to suss out the Sneaky Stuff[d10]=19. Still an easy win for you

Within minutes you've got eyes everywhere, camera feeds giving dozens of different POVs. The information would normally be overwhelming but you're able to glance over every single feed in rapid succession, discarding redundant data and combining different fields of vision into a single coherent whole.

The effect is much like having a high-definition satellite view of the area around the air base. Bit by bit you piece together the clues and build a picture of what's happening.

First, you spot Blood Bath engaging with an unknown individual near the crashed helicopter. But your vision is drawn to Stranger engaged with the attacker on the north side of the base and the soldiers converging on that position. It's clear that this is exactly the intent of such a scene: a diversion.

Quickly you calculate the areas of the base this would leave undefended and you spot what you're looking for: another vehicle. This one is parked much farther from the fence around the base on the south side and appears to be empty. Next you spot a section of the fence on the south side which has been torn open, the metal simply split apart like netting.

From there the path becomes a bit harder to trace, but then you notice an unobtrusive hanger not too far from the entry into the base. It would seem to be just another storage hangar but its roof and walls are subtly reinforced with unusually durable materials for a simple utility shed. Sure enough the door (which is much thicker than would be normal) has been ripped from its hinges and lies on its side. From there all traces of this second intruder(s) vanish...this hangar was clearly their goal and he, she or they still seem to be inside.

"Area Sterilized."

Stricken bobbed gently above the devastation wrought upon the section of what used to be a highway for a few seconds, before new orders came in from the Branch Chief via her Lifeline Sensor.
A highly detailed map of the airbase, with a hangar on the south side highlighted in red for possibly enemy intrusion. A new mission, taking priority over the last. Head to the Yakota Air Base. Investigate. Secure.

Without a seconds hesitation she was off, leaving nothing but a sonic boom behind, beyond perhaps perhaps a subsiding feeling of dread.

Flying into position with Syndrome Boost: 2d8o8k1 6 + 2 from Excellence + 2 from Style (2 EP cost) = 10

---

If anyone was manning the radar they would have thought the approaching signal to be a small helicopter on rapid approach. Visual observation however painted a far different picture.
Approaching the base at breakneck speeds was something akin to an angry storm cloud, or a ball of lightning.
Strickens approach was anything but subtle, as she pushed all her energy into speed and none into maintaining her otherwise delicate control of her affliction.
The air around her ionized in protest, but her mercy was ended. She had her orders; none would dare stand in her way.

Heading to the South Hangar and warding the area as I go; anyone not Gjaum or Overed should probably try to find shelter inside lest they call attention to themselves from the Angry Sky Girl.

Well, no sense holding back. Stranger took the gunman in the chest like a sack of concrete, sending his breath whooshing out of him. That settles that - if he were human an impact at this speed would have broken him in half. The heat rolling off his flesh was another clue. Still falling, Stranger wrapped his arms and legs around him, snaking out his limbs to form a tight, binding netting, leaving only the man's face exposed. They hit the ground and rolled, bound together as the gunman struggled. Stranger maneuvered himself so his face was directly over top of his captive, then sent bony stakes into the ground around them to anchor himself. Peeling back his lips into a fanged, rictus snarl, he drew his head back like a cobra then shouted "Stand down! Stand down!" over and over. He glanced at the cowering soldiers with one swivelling eye (keeping the other on his target); "Get over here and help me restrain this rear end in a top hat! Wraithblade/William Jones - ER: 38% (Condition: 5/5, Awakened)

William's eyes were locked at Stricken as the girl bolted towards the airbase, his leer one less of outright hostility, but more of somewhat condescending worry. It was the sort of look you might give a misbehaving student, fear for their future laced with patronizing contempt. It was highly unlike him to comment so directly on the doings of his fellow agents, but on the case of Escalation protocol he made an exception. He had been called upon to deal with one too many agents who had gambled on their willpower. And lost.

However, before William had the time to brood on this much longer, a familiar buzz in his ear grabbed his full attention. He listened to the Branch Chief's suggestion, furrowing his brow ever so slightly.

"A theoretical possibility", William spoke in careful tones. He was wholly unfamilair with using Tchernobog for non-combat applications. Combat was the only thing that had ever been asked of him, after all. "but would require extensive, specialized training, as well as Escalation levels of designation Oni or Youkai."

"Will attempt local space expansion instead."

William took command of a few UGN grunts to escort the vehicle to the nearest UGM safehouse. This sort of thing was not his specialty, so he doubted he would succeed, but he would attempt to carry out his order nevertheless.

He knew not why the Branch Chief had chosen to use him of all people on a task like this. But he had to admit. Being thought of as something more than just a mere weapon had a certain... charm.

Pinned down the kid, he couldn't be older than 16, stares in shock as you twist your body like a nest of snakes. "gently caress! Get the gently caress off me!!". He struggles futiley against your grip for a few seconds in blind revulsion.

The surviving soldiers are joined by a few more, but you realize that these aren't Tempest-trained men, used to dealing with the horrors of the renegade virus, these are just ordinary US air force stationed at the Yokata base. As far as they're aware the base has just been attacked out of the blue and then they stumble upon this scene: a hideous, vaguely human, creature and a (still smoking) raging teenager. There's a moment of hesitation and confusion, especially when you speak directly to them. But then someone snaps or maybe a new soldier stumbles onto the scene and sees only a inhuman mass and they open fire. Then everyone else joins in. The two of you are peppered with small arms fire from handguns and mp5's.

Think you can take the heat?" As he speaks his face distorts slightly from heat haze, you can feel his entire body heating up like an electric grill.

He's attacking with Syndrome Boost Salamandra [d10]=7.

Stricken

Fortunately, your arrival is largely unopposed with soldiers converging on Stranger's location. The few bullets shot in your direction are effortlessly deflected or disintegrated before the soldiers are caught in your Warding field.

Arriving at the site of the apparent intrusion you get a good look at what's going on. The "hangar" is quite unobtrusive from the outside, with a large front gate for admitting trucks or aircraft, which is still shut. However one of the side entrances, sized for foot traffic, has been torn apart, revealing it to be an extremely thick security door.

The edges of the door are torn and bent, as though by giant claws. From outside you can only see that the interior seems to be mostly dark and empty.

Back Alley

Swerving around the occasional car left mostly intact by Stricken you tear down the road towards the Yokata air base. You come to the gate where a pair of, clearly confused and stressed, soldiers stationed at the front gate desperately start to wave you away as you approach.

"No visitors! The base is locked down! You must leave the area immediately!"

Wraithblade
Fitting Inside [d12]=3. You made it.

After consulting with a member of the cleanup crew on an appropriate place to store the vehicle they direct you to a place that would be easy to secure, assuming that you can get the truck inside: an underground parking garage nearby. The interior space should just barely fit but the clearance on the entrance is too low.

Picking up speed you release a small swarm of Evil Eyes around the truck, subtly compressing the space within the swarm compared to the space outside. You approach the gap at speed with the second truck being driven close behind by one of the ground crew. Doing this slower would be much safer but you can only keep up the compression field for so long.

You barrel straight for the entrance to the garage and fortunately there's no grinding or tearing and you slip inside without inside. You let out a breath as you release the compression field...even just a foot or two of compression on this scale is no small feat.

As you get out a squad of the UGN MTF secures the entrances to the garage, assuring you that they'll keep the place locked down until a proper UGN transport can come pick up the corpses.

"Orders succesfully executed", William intoned tersely into his radio. Then he headed out from the garage without further word, merely offering the UGM personnel a slight nod in acknowledgment. The soldier shakes his head in confusion but seems to be willing to go along with you.

"I'll give it a shot man, but the Lieutenant wasn't enhanced. Pretty sure he and the pilot are toast."

Seemingly a bit more conscious of his injuries now he opts to use a piece of the helicopter propeller as a lever instead of simply grasping the smoldering metal directly. With a grunt of effort he manages to pry the mangled doors the rest of the way off. It turns out his assessment was accurate: the two corpses in the body of the helicopter are well past saving. Even if they weren't dead when they hit the ground the the heat and fumes would have done the job before you even arrived on the scene.

"drat. Poor bastard. Pretty sure he was on the way to smooth things over with your crew too." The soldier shrugged. "Back to base it is. My orders were to keep an eye on the Lieutenant and that's turned to poo poo."
He flexes and stretches a little, likely his sense of pain has been functionally shut down and he's manually testing to see how functional his limbs are. "You're one of those fr...I mean uh, Overs or whatever you're called, right? So you can keep up?"

Still caught in your grasp you and the angry kid tumble away. He screams in frustration and impotent rage. At first you think he might be exhausting himself but he bares his teeth and...well you've seen Overeds releasing their control on the Renegade, you've done it yourself. But this is the first time you've had such an up-close-and-personal view. His eyes dilate and his skin flushes, you can see the effect of the change, subtle as it is, literally ripple under his skin and up his body as each cell absorbs more of the Renegade virus. Stricken
Corruption: 41

Just as Belcry had predicted, there where sure signs of enemy Overed or possibly Gjaum activity in the Yakota Air Base. The Lifeline Sensor flashed an 'oni alert' in front of Stricken just as she arrived, as if to confirm it beyond all doubt.

She wondered briefly which route to take; to decend into darkness without aid or oversight or to help a fellow agent in need. She was probably already in trouble and had no idea how recently or long ago the door was forced open.
The unknown quantity could wait. Besides, she was under strict orders not to harm tempest forces. She could only imagine the carnage let lose if she started a fight on the inside.

"Someone get me a bead on that Oni!" She yelled into her com-set, all thoughts of proper protocol thrown to the wind in the midst of combat.
Her minds eye picturing all her allies swarming around her opponent, their frail bodies turned into dust by her belligerent presence.
"..and stand back!" She added, unsure of how else to prevent such a fate.

She boosted into the air, pirouetting in the wyrd gravity afforded her by the renegade virus, pale eyes scanning the base for signs of the enemy.
As soon as she spotted it she collected her madly pulsating emanation into a single point, and sent it forward as a lance of destruction.
She hoped whoever else was nearby would have time to duck and cover.

"Yeah, let's go!" Bohn starts to sprint.

Thus begun the international impromptu race of America and Japan.

Gomen Assey raced with flashes of brilliance rarely seen by Americans of recent vintage, in the process attracting legions of fans. I have long been one of those. In particular, I remember three of his top efforts in his power sprinting and that particular cool power jump over the large obstacle that I have to circle around. There he set the pace for 1 miles before ceding the front to helicoptor and the base, who finished in 0:13:02 and 0:13:06. Typically, Gomen gained confidence, not fear, from the crazy-fast early miles. “It was exciting to see our splits,” he said. “They helped me maintain my momentum and keep the excitement building.”

Bohn ran with a similar bravado, which is why Gomen rallied so eagerly ahead of his competition. The generation of Japanese marathoners before him had lost the fire, but not this overed.

Gomen, on the other hand, ran boldly. He joined the fray, and dared to be great even though he sometimes wasn’t. He followed the Teddy Roosevelt dictum: “The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; who errs, and comes short again and again, because there is no effort without shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds.”

That’s a pretty good description of Gomen Assey’s approach to racing. So I say, “Bully for you, Gomen. Well done.” However, there was one other takeaway from the meet for me: anything can happen. His injuries and the overworked machine insides him has finally went into mandatory cool down mode. He's slowing down. With this change, I have can chase him down. I never thought I could catch, let alone pass the cyborg on overdrive.

It was cold and blustery despite the burning wreckage all over the place and Bohn relished the cold wind in his teeth. The train experience has deepened his now-legendary resistance to pain. From 2 miles, he piled on the pressure, with Gomen holding close behind.

Strong Will: 5

Actually, remembering the train experience makes him feel terrible and Bohn also slowed down. They both jogs casually back to the base.

[Stranger] - ER:43% (Condition: 5/5, Awakened)

Stranger cursed inwardly as the kid pushed himself over the edge and roared. His movements, before just ineffectual straining, now felt like trying to contain a wolverine in a canvas bag. He whipped himself around the raging body like a ribbon, deftly avoiding blows by splitting apart and clamping back into place. Even so, Stranger felt segments tear under the strain, and he knew he couldn't keep this up forever.

Stricken's voice shouted unexpectedly into his ear, and he reflexively scanned the horizon - she wasn't hard to miss, blazing like the sun and crackling with reality-defying power. "Stricken, fire on my position! Disregard my safety, take him down!" Not being gentle anymore, he forced ceramic spurs into the gunman's joints, craning him up to face the sky. Even now, his hold was breaking, but he thought it would be just enough!

(Rolling [d8]Unnatural Speed with Excellence and Total Defense = 20) to keep him from breaking out of my grip and to avoid his angry blows. 18 if Excellence doesn't apply, but that should still be enough. Either way, he's yours, Stricken!)

Ex Machina - ER: 36% (Condition: 5/5, Awakened)

Ex Machina was pleased with the impromptu field team's development. His agents were not simple reacting quickly and capably, they were coordinating, a rare feat for groups of Overed. For this reason he did not intervene as Stricken, Bloodbath and Stranger worked with each other. The threat of the pyrokinetic shooter would soon be controlled. This just left one matter to take care of - the mysterious hangar.

"At ease, soldiers. We are here to help you. As per UVKG-225 accords between Tempest and the UGN, we are to work together in the face of a larger threat. Let us assist you," he said, hacking into the base gate's locks to slide it open as he bid the helicopter pilot to enter the base from above, adding that extra touch of credibility to the proceedings. "Back Alley, follow me. There is a location I wish to check out."

Arriving outside the hangar, the Branch Chief descended from the helicopter and ventured into the darkened interiors without another word. Whatever was waiting for him inside, he already had prepared his trump card.

Rolling to persuade the soldiers to let Back Alley through, spending 1 EP to Syndrome Boost and use Machine Minions to make it look legit. Results is 12. That should do it.

Stricken
Let's see. You're Inhuman, we'll say the distance between the mystery hangar and the fiery Overed's location is Very Far but you can close that distance by one step freely, so combined with Projection we're good for an attack with no penalties. By the way, what form does your Warding field take? If you're trying to get soldiers out of the area you could always just repel them. Anyway, Overed's defense: Ignoring Injuries [d8]=5. He'll take a Dark Bargain for an extra EP and uses it for Unbreakable, blocking that point of Damage.

The crazed Overed staggers to his feet even with Stranger's weight wrapped around his torso. He swings and fights wildly with clumsy, but powerful, blows. When Stranger yells out he doesn't seem to get what's happening at first, "Stricken? What are you talking about?"

That's when the edge of Stricken's warding field reaches you and his eyes widen, he looks up and spots the floating and at first seems more confused than scared, "Wait, she wasn't supposed to..." then recognition seems to dawn and he barely manages to get out "Oh shi-" before Stricken's annihilation blast slams into the hilltop.

The ground explodes into a spray of dust and pebbles, sending the unknown Overed flying (with Stranger still clinging on like an eel). The two slam into a nearby tree, nearly snapping the trunk. However the attacker doesn't seem much worse for wear and he gamely starts to rise again, "Oh, you fuckers. You don't know who you're messing with." The ground begins to smoulder and the fractured tree starts to blacken. With one hand he finds purchase on Stranger's elastic body and slams him into the tree-trunk. He pulls back his other fist, surrounded by a halo of flame, ready for a devastating blow.

Attacking with two EP for Excellence, plus Knack and corruption bonus General Destruction [d8]=12. That's doubled to 24 if Stranger remains at Awakened.

At the Gates
it wasn't 100% clear from the post so I'm taking some liberties with how Ex Machina speaks to the soldiers

The soldiers are still clearly unnerved and while Ex Machina's proclamations, delivered via flying robotic beetle, certainly sounds authoritative they're obviously still worried. But when Blood Bath and (more importantly) his American companion arrive they seem to have concluded that keeping anyone out at this point is beyond their pay grade. The American reassures them that the two out-of-place looking japanese fellows are here to help and the gates are opened.

Of course, that's about when Stricken streaks through the air above and opens fire with an air-shaking blast of destructive power across the base. As she sweeps by her Warding field catches the two soldiers, sweeping them harmlessly away.

The enhanced American soldier gapes, "Is...is she with you to?"

At the Hangar

The pilot dutifully lands the helicopter outside of the hangar (fortunately shielded by his Anti-Warding equipment) "Here you go sir. Take care of yourself."

Inside the hangar your robotic minions easily provide illumination. The first wave of defenders here clearly did not last very long...the room is filled with plants. Crawling vines choke the walls and floors and have destroyed the lighting fixtures which would have ordinarily lit the huge open area inside the hangar. Here and there stand soldiers, hands on their weapons, held in place by the roots and vines that have burst forth from inside their bodies and wrapped around their limbs.

Fortunately the place seems empty and dead. Whatever force compelled the plants to grow so quickly and powerfully has left them now shriveled husks and the room itself seems devoid of any living thing: human, overed, plant or gjaum.

The other main thing you notice is the freight elevator, a huge section of the floor, large enough to accommodate vehicles or dozens of men. It's clearly already descended below ground (the elevator shaft slants so the lower floors are not visible from here, but its clearly quite far).

"Yep!", Back Alley exclaimed, an undercurrent of glee in his voice. He stepped on the gas, leaving the dumbfounded soldiers in the dust. He sped through the base, following Belcry's helicopter and grateful that he didn't have to force his way through the gate; Jezebel was too good to be shot at! When he reached his destination, he swerved to a stop near the helicopter. After taking a minute to ask the UGN pilot to look after his car, he causally strolled inside the hanger.

He looked around the inside of the hanger, taking in as many details as possible. "drat, boss. What do you think did this?"

[Stranger] - ER:43% (Condition: 5/5, Awakened)

Skin blackening and flaking off in ablative scales, Stranger jars with the impact against the tree, seemingly stunned. He doesn't resist as a blazing hand seizes him by the back of the head and grips painfully. His eyes focus on the young Overed's face as the other fist comes in - and he smiles. A wide, impossible smile. He doesn't flinch as the blow caves in his face, shattering through bone and ceramic plating, and he falls limp. Suddenly, the attacker reels back in alarm, trying to pull his hand away. Hooked muscles tighten around his trapped fist, pulling him in further, and Stranger's hands shoot up, clamping onto the straining arm. "Yo̷u ̢had ͠yǫur c̛h́anc̸ę."

(Power Up! Rolling Corruption = 6) and using my Signature Power, Waiting Maw! I Seize Control to lock him in place again - and since my highest defense die is higher than their lowest offense die (well, they're equal, but ties go to PC) the attacker takes 1 Damage!)

He laughs, a bubbling sound coming from deep in his chest, and pulls the attacker deeper towards him. He pulls one hand off the arm and slams it into the Overed's ribs, breaking it against his opponent's tough flesh.

(Rolling Unnatural Speed = 3) to ineffectually flail at my attacker!)

He just laughs harder, the raucous peals of amusement vibrating through both their bodies. He braces against the floor, then lets loose with a thousand bladed strikes against his captive, his arms setting off continuous sonic booms. And through it all, he laughs and laughs!

(Rolling Dark Bargain = 2) for one more EP, then using Flawless to reroll my Unnatural Speed = 15 Actually, that brings my Corruption to 51% on the dot, so it's 16 from the Corruption bonus.)

Interesting...it had been some time since he'd had a chance to observe the handiwork of a Renegade belonging to that Syndrome. Careful not to touch it, he searched for a button or panel to call up the elevator with, while several metallic centipedes detached from him and approached the bodies to conduct a more thorough investigation.

"Nande?!"

Not only was her foe still standing, he appeared both unhurt and still actively trying to kill whatever it was that Stranger was trying to be. She gave the fiery Overed a murderous glare, the effectiveness of which was debatable at this distance. So, he wanted to play hardball? Well, two could play at that game!

With a sudden loud crack she accelerated to top speed, intent on torpedo-hugging him into the ground like in one of her favourite videogames, trusting in her aura to do the rest.
As she flew, the air whipping around her like the a thousand flags caught in a whirlwind, she yelled and yelled as loud as she could;

Stranger/Stricken
So, that's 2 points of Damage to Stranger, 1 point of Damage to the hostile Overed. Of course, he's got a big flurry of attacks headed his way, so let's see...Going with his regular Ignoring Injuries [d8]=8, he's spending his final EP (his corruption is high enough for a bonus) on Unbreakable. That reduces the 2 Damage to 1, for a total of 3 to him so far.

The fiery Overed jerks from the impact of your fists and you're certain you feel bones giving way, but gamely holds his ground, struggling to extricate himself from Stranger's...well, self. Unfortunately for him that's when Stricken slams into him from the opposite side.

I don't think we properly established turn order between you three. Let's say it goes Stranger > Stricken > Crazy guy. Crazy Guy's defense against Stricken Ignoring Injury [d8]=8. That's going to be a point of damage and the effects of Affliction, keep in mind that's an Ongoing EP on Stricken's part. 4 damage total. Start of his turn so he's going to have to resist the Hazard from Stricken, but he does get his EP back. Being Disintegrated [d8]=4 vs Ignoring Injury [d8]=8.

The blow from Stricken knocks both the enemy Overed and Stranger through the tree. The hostile grits his teeth as portions of his body begin to "froth" at the edges as Stricken's annihilation field attempts to eat away at his Renegade-infused flesh. So far he appears to be holding his own, but he's clearly starting to think a bit better of his earlier bravado. With a howl of frustration he ignites his arms, trying to burn away the fleshy hooks in order to free himself.

Going all out, 3 EP invested in Excellence. General Destruction [d8]=15. Also, FYI if he manages to beat Stranger's defense he's going to start fleeing away from the airbase.

Ex Machina

Several camera drones descend after the elevator. There are no stops until the elevator shaft reaches the bottom, several stories below. The platform is resting at the bottom and looks undamaged and the room below looks much like the hangar you're standing in now except without the plants and lots of crates and pallets stacked about.

Before the cameras can show you much else there's a sudden blur of motion and one camera is down. The remaining cameras manage to capture several fast-moving, vaguely human forms before they too are destroyed by whatever is waiting at the bottom of the shaft.

For clarity, you've got plenty of minions left, just figured you send a handful down as scouts

That's a big hit, I don't think he'll be able to take it. Ignoring Injury [d8]=8. Yep, that's 3 damage. I guess that leaves him no choice...

Tearing his way free of Stranger like a red hot knife through meat, the hostile Overed staggers free, grinning through blood-stained teeth. "You may think you've won, but you're just playing right into our hands. I think I've taken enough abuse though, I'm out of here!" He gathers his strength and dashes off.

His strides turn into wild leaps, bouncing from tree to tree and leaving scorched footprints on the bark and a trail of blackened and flaming leaves. He turns around to deliver one last mocking farewell...

...only to see Stricken barreling after him. His eyes widen and he brings up his arms to try and block her attack but it's entirely ineffective: Stricken's annihilation field bores into his flesh, tearing his shirt to dust and shredding layers of flesh and muscle before he's blown backwards by a blast of superheated air.

Powering Up, and just barely avoids going Berserk

The force of the blow carries the Overed to the edge of the trees, now blazing. A corona of flames blast outward, toppling nearby trees. The young Overed stares up at you with blazing eyes, gritting his teeth in an effort to retain control as his flesh quickly heals over. "Now look what you've done. And I promised her I'd try not to make too big a mess. Oh well."

Now you and the overed are just a few dozen yards from a highway, and beyond that the buildings of City N proper. The Overed raises a hand towards the road and flames dance along his arms, "Now, back off lady. I've done my job and I'm leaving. It'd be nothing for me to turn everyone there to toast along the way. The enemy Overed was clearly unbalanced and ready to do almost anything to get away from them, even court oblivion, and some part of Stranger wanted to keep the populace safe. And yet... would letting him go here cause something even worse down the road? He couldn't take this lightly. "Tell the shooter that his comrades are waiting for him at the hangar. If he wishes to see them again, he will be granted free passage. Then, he switched communication channels, speaking to only one of his other agents.
