Pornographic Memory posted:I don't think there was any realistic chance of him being traded anyway unless the Flames or some other team had a real blow-your-socks-off offer. He's all but guaranteed to be the Penguins starter in a few years unless he blows it (or Jarry surpasses him). It kind of pisses me off though talking to people who think he should be the starter next year or even already - I think the Penguins have a really enviable position in goal going forward, no sense in ruining it with impatience. They have two blue chip prospects in goal, and a solid, durable starter on a solid contract that has just about the perfect term to give those prospects to develop and let the Penguins pick one or the other to move forward with. The only way I'd consider moving Murray is if a great young d or forward is coming back, and that's not happening. And yeah there's no rush to move on from Fleury. Ease Murray into things, and then if in a few years he's proved ready to be given a shot as a starter then you consider moving on from Flower.

Kane ties his career high point total of 88 with 17 games to play. Seabrook really proving he's worth that extension with more goals scored this season than he has before and a four-point night. Panarin-Kane is so disgusting.

It's cool that there will actually be an 100 point scorer this season. Jamie Benn is cool and all and Patrick Kane is a cabby beating alleged rapist but art rosses should not be won with 87 points.

You're correct about the blue line, but the improved forward depth (which is only going to get better when Hossa and Wiese get in the lineup) at least means the Hawks can better keep up with the chances they are giving up. I thought Erhoff looked really good and might be useful during the postseason.

Went to the Caps game tonight. Leafs looked pretty good. Soshnikov is an rear end in a top hat, but he's good. Nylander was hardly noticeable but not necessarily in a bad way. He looks like he belongs in the top six, tough matchups vs Washington though. I thought Gardiner looked very good as well. He was dangerous out there. The other big thing I noticed sitting close to the ice, which doesn't translate as all on TV, is just how loving good Kuznetsov is. He is so incredibly smooth. Reminded me a lot of peak Datsyuk, but even more dangerous. Took my appreciation of him to a whole new level. Jamwad Hilder fucked around with this message at 05:28 on Mar 3, 2016 |

Unless he feels compelled to take a discount, I just don't see it. He's basically free this year ($850k base I think) but he's gonna carry closer to $3m cap hit due to bonuses achieved. No way he's gonna make less than 4.5-5/yr on the market when he goes. Unless it's just Kane making him so good, but I doubt it.

The Emrick and co bitched for quite some time about it being a missed penalty. There was one shift in the third that didn't result in a goal but Panarin just schooled everyone on the ice cycling around the zone with three or so dekes that should never work on anyone with an NHL contract. Also Desjardin's face plant into the boards needs to be gif'd.

Chicago and Washington have made hockey really fun this year. Its been a while since we've had two supremely dominant offensive teams in the league at once. It sorta reminds me of the Avs/Wings from the early 2000s. From a neutral perspective this has been one of the best years in ages. I really hope those two meet in the finals because I want every team on earth to emulate how they play.

I think it's basically going to come down to that they can either keep him or Teravainen longterm, not both. Right now I'd think Panarin is the bigger priority if that's the case. Right now if they signed Panarin for 5 million a year, they'd have like 14 million to fill out their 17-18 roster with 13 guys. Doable, but not easy, and they're going to have to keep finding young guys and value guys who can contribute while the core eats up such a big part of the salary cap. I don't think they let both of them go, though, I think they'd rather keep one and search for bargains to fill out the roster. Either way, it gets a lot harder after next year. This is why it was such a big deal to go all in this year, I guess. Nail Rat fucked around with this message at 15:37 on Mar 3, 2016 |

Panarin is by far the most valuable asset they've picked up since "the core" became a thing, they aren't going to let him go. Hopefully the Saad episode convinced agents that Bowman really doesn't give a poo poo, but in this case..

He can make that Backstrom pass every time while two or three defenders whack at his stick in the corner. He's ridiculous. Too bad he plays for such a terrible team.

Well if anything Panarin and his agent can look at Saad and expect to fetch at least that much money - possibly more if he plays as well next year as he has this year. I hope they find a way to keep Panarin, but the stagnating cap and new Seabrook contract are going to make it difficult. At least we know Bowman is adept at getting a quality return in this type of situation.
