I can think of a few other forwards I'd bring ahead of Thornton so I wouldn't be shocked if he didn't make the team, wouldn't be surprised if he made it either though. Scheifele won't make North America because there are other forwards who are better, or at least perceived to be better, than him. Johansen, Domi, Nugent-Hopkins, Huberdeau, Galchenyuk, and Duclair, to name a few. Trouba will make the team, I think.

I bet Smith gets an extension next year and the 3 of them are here until they retire. tl;dr: Kronwall over Klingberg isn't just funny because Klingberg is good, but because Kronwall is Bad

Kronwall is and always has been a solid #3 D, and I think green and smith are solid 2nd pairing D as well. But there is no one on the team that really belongs in those top 2 slots. Ken Holland was on 1130 a couple of days ago and was defending the Abdelkader contract without it even specifically being brought up by the interviewer, because he would have gotten even more on the open market after his selection to team usa
