I think the confusion is when we were young people called us gen y cause we were the generation after gen x, I really only started hearing the term millennials sometime in the 2000s and it naturally sounds like someone who was born after the millennium.

According to google the term millennial was coined in 82 before I was even born, because I guess the idea was that we'd be hitting adulthood in the early 2000s, but I simply do not recall it being a thing people used to refer to my generation until really social media and technology were so ingrained in day to day life.

Basically everyone is gonna disagree with you. Hell I've even got some certified gen x siblings that are just as phone and internet addicted as any college age millennial.

I came across mention of a Gnostic codex called The Unreal God and the Aspects of His Nonexistent Universe, an idea which reduced me to helpless laughter. What kind of person would write about something that he knows doesn't exist, and how can something that doesn't exist have aspects?

It means you were born 2000 or later. Like in the new millennium. I think they actually got the word "millenial" from "millenium". Pretty far out poo poo when you think about it. Better than getting called a geezer I guess.

I push hard for generation why (it's a clever joke about nihilism and apathy!) if you were born before 90 and aren't an insufferable twat and grew up listening to grungy alternative.

I work with millenials and they are little shits. I won't be lumped with them.

the difference is thkids born post 9/11 had lived their whole lives in a Patriot act "post-9/11" world. They have no frame of reference outside of killing muslims and bowing to government surveillance a la "I don't have anything to hide, so who cares?"

i think that also extends to kids who were alive when the attacks happened but were too young to remember it whatsoever, i.e. preschoolers at the time
