Well technically he was wearing a uniform of one of the teams competing on the ice, and was actually on the ice himself while a game of hockey was being played, presumably even fumbling the puck once or twice, so I'm comfortable making the bold statement that Sbisa at least meets the most basic definition of being "a player".
