Hulu can go to hell for being the first to start "cracking down" on VPN users. I'm a US citizen but can't watch the stuff I'm paying for just because I happen to currently be in a different country. Netflix has started doing the same thing and now I'm stuck with only lovely amazon prime.

I still buy Blurays and stuff I can't physically get in HD on DVD. You can find some really great deals on BRDs and DVDs that have been out for a while. $5/movie I can watch whenever even if the internet is down. And if it's prime time my physical stream doesn't get cut down to SD quality. Commentaries, subtitles, alternate endings, deleted scenes and bloopers, trailers, mini-documentaries, interviews... the list goes on. No commercials though. Unless they're bonus features. You get a bunch of bang for the buck if you're patient. I won't pay for commercials and I won't pay more to not see commercials. I have two antennas but since I moved into a valley I get nearly zero signal. I miss it because OTA broadcast is uncompressed and you can get a true 1080p image. Paying for cable will get you 1,000 channels of crap with maybe 10 channels you actually watch at most at 1080i due to compression. Stations air more commercials today. If you're lucky enough to catch an old Simpsons rerun on air today you won't be seeing the same episode that originally aired like you would, uncut, on the dvd. I switched from Netflix to Prime a couple years ago because, although you pay up front with the latter, you end up paying less for streaming, you can rent and you get a bunch of perks. Free 2day shipping. When you buy a CD you can download the album at the quality of your choice. Two days later your physical backup arrives with the hidden track. I was also tired of sifting through garbage on Netflix for 20 minutes at a time. I also go on stints where I back up my physical copies to digital so I can take my movies and music on the go. Sure, it's not as fancy as the cloud but I don't need to pay yet another $10/month and can still enjoy my media when I get stranded in the middle of nowhere with no cell signal or internet. I haven't torrented movies or music in years but I still pirate Linux.

Even so, $8 a month to watch the four shows I watch is better than $50 a month for the same thing but with 100 extra channels of bullshit.

Hulu has a commercial free option. And even the option with commercials is far cheaper and has far fewer commercials than cable. And, unlike Netlfix, it has current shows, not year old poo poo.

i accidentally forgot to cancel my hulu free trial and when they charged me $11.99 i was so furious i called and gave them a piece of my mind so they removed the charge and extended my trial by another month  not that i used it because hulu is really bad i cant remember what i wanted to watch that prompted me to sign up in the first place... shows how utterly forgettable their content suite is that i cant even remember one thing i watched
