I wonder if you're supposed to beat that monster on New Game+? Assuming you remember the opening, anyhow.

Well, to be fair, I also live in an apartment building and there aren't a whole lot of rooms I can go in. Loving the cat so far. He's like a tiny ambulatory Buddha.

Man, this is one malicious easter egg on the devs' part. Julius tries to speedrun the game by stealing one Significant Pocketwatch and attacking the train to hope to get another, and while he actually does, there's a cutscene and the world is destroyed. I hope he got an interesting achievement, at least.

In debt to your eyeballs and wanted for terrorism. I'm... I'm sure someone's had a worse first day on the job.

And then we wake up with a nine-figure debt for medical bills. Hey, eventually they have to run out of numbers, right?

This game seems unusually proud of its cat physics.

Sylphid posted:I know that! Everyone in our whole class knows that! His brother's a terrorist, and you've slapped him with a huge debt! He's bad news, and I don't want anything to do with him! "Terrible things outside of his control have happened to him! That means he must be a bad person!" Man, that's a little too blatant.

To be fair, Rollo is a prodigious kitty, and needs constant guarding.

Huh. An alternate dimension where they manage to capture the Great Spirits and drain them. That's... disquieting.

This is pretty elaborate, for a first fractured dimension.

I wonder what this alterMilla thinks about all this tactical cat deployment?

So apparently fractured dimensions have always been a thing, no seriously they have shut up?

Really, I have to respect whoever decided that finding cats would be an important sidequest. They knew what they were after and they stuck to it.

Really, I think New Vegas had the right idea for casinos. You played for actual money, your luck had a huge effect on how big you won and how often, and each casino had a sizable but finite purse you could empty, instead of just reaching the casino and having all that sweet gear be a save-scum or five away.

Did the entire ruin collapse in the prime timeline, or have we still got a shot at hitting that archive? I mean, probably the former, but I figured I'd ask.

All of this feels unnecessarily sad. Seeing how things had gone differently and just going around ending worlds like we're the final boss.

If there's one mechanical thread that I've noticed in the Tales games, aside from the active battle system, it's that occasionally you'll get a specific protagonist super mode that mostly exists to cancel out the villain's super.

I kind of liked the Tales of Eternia splitup that put Efreet, Sylph, and Undine in one place and Gnome, Undine, and Volt in another. Here Gnome is part of the Four, Undine is a stand-off-ish experiment gone awry, and Volt is some kind of weird robot thing? I dunno, maybe there's only so many elements you can have while giving them all a coherent place in the world.

Wait, if somebody gets to Origin and calls base, doesn't that stop annihilation all on its own? Why bother getting divergence catalysts at that point?

It wouldn't be a Tales game if you didn't pull back from the brink of apocalypse to do four dozen side quests.

Sylphid posted:We could, but we're squarely in that "End game sidequest" time bubble that a lot of RPGs fall prey to. No matter what the crisis, there is always time for goofing off. As far as the plot assumes, we immediately headed into Canaan just as soon as the soul bridge appeared. Really I kinda-sorta blame Chrono Trigger for kicking off all of this. Even though it had literally the best reason for last-second side quests it still put the idea into people's heads.
