Man, this is one malicious easter egg on the devs' part. Julius tries to speedrun the game by stealing one Significant Pocketwatch and attacking the train to hope to get another, and while he actually does, there's a cutscene and the world is destroyed.

I hope he got an interesting achievement, at least.

Really, I think New Vegas had the right idea for casinos. You played for actual money, your luck had a huge effect on how big you won and how often, and each casino had a sizable but finite purse you could empty, instead of just reaching the casino and having all that sweet gear be a save-scum or five away.

If there's one mechanical thread that I've noticed in the Tales games, aside from the active battle system, it's that occasionally you'll get a specific protagonist super mode that mostly exists to cancel out the villain's super.

I kind of liked the Tales of Eternia splitup that put Efreet, Sylph, and Undine in one place and Gnome, Undine, and Volt in another. Here Gnome is part of the Four, Undine is a stand-off-ish experiment gone awry, and Volt is some kind of weird robot thing?

I dunno, maybe there's only so many elements you can have while giving them all a coherent place in the world.

We could, but we're squarely in that "End game sidequest" time bubble that a lot of RPGs fall prey to. No matter what the crisis, there is always time for goofing off. As far as the plot assumes, we immediately headed into Canaan just as soon as the soul bridge appeared.

Though, to be fair, this game is, to my recollection, one of the worst Tales games for that time bubble. Just going off the Tales games I've played, Phantasia there was no real plot-related rush, Eternia same thing, Symphonia / DotNW had the bubble to a lesser extent, Abyss not at all, Xillia 1 kinda, and Zestiria nothing to my recollection. Here, as far as the plot is concerned, there's not a moment to lose.

Really I kinda-sorta blame Chrono Trigger for kicking off all of this. Even though it had literally the best reason for last-second side quests it still put the idea into people's heads.
