I suppose I'll be the voice of dissent here and say I absolutely despised this game like little else in my entire life. I like some of the music, and the costumes out of the bonus dungeon are excellent, but everything else? Just urgh. Would you believe we already have a large plot hole? I'll keep my bile in check since there's no point in dragging the LP down with my issues.

The "Is he an agent?" line comes from the soldier Ludger is fighting though.

If you go the Marksburg first, then at Helioborg Leia will go off to fix Helioborg's defense systems.

After you get Elize, but before you defeat Volt, you can backtrack to the start and actually meet Mary early. Neat, if irrelevant.

Tetra Spell is just the biggest bullshit. Normally line-attacking spells like Wind Lance and Fireball shoot out from the front of the caster, but because Rock Trine and Splash are part of it, he'll harrow on where they're targeted and spellcast flip himself backwards to wreck you. Then you're hit by all four ailments if you're not dead.

This update is also hilarious for other, far-reaching reasons.

Waiting for Leia to talk with Agria is a ridiculous +900 boost to Leia's affections.

But now here we get some of the bizarre double-standard of toothlessness of the writing. Living Agria? Nope, some drat random monster is the Divergence Catalyst. Derrick living in Elympios? Nope, another random drat monster. Destroying an entire planet's worth of children is A-OK to imply but can't be killing "defenseless" people.

And then Alt Milla's character episode is about loving cooking instead of dealing with her world being destroyed. God dammit.

No, Alternate Milla, you're not identical to Prime Milla. You're human and she's a spirit. Those are two different things.

Marcus there was also named Marco over in Japan.
There was also a character outright named Marcus in Japan.

Marco -> Marcus
Marcus -> Marvin

The localization name changes are so very confusing, if hilarious.

Spirius's summoning ritual specifically does require a living sacrifice to complete. Alt. Milla was just convenient because having a Fractured Being in the Prime prevents the Prime counterpart being from returning to the Prime if they were absent. If a Fractured being enters the Prime while the Prime counterpart is still there, the Fractured being is pushed back to their Home Dimension. If the Home Dimension is gone, then they're pushed to the Abyss where Prime Milla just was.

This is all exceedingly irrelevant because Fractured Milla is a human and Prime Milla is a spirit, so really they both could have survived just dandy together.

Douchebags is frankly underscoring what colossus assholes the Travis's were. Agria's father conceived her with a mistress and Agria and her mother lived away from her father for her early years. Eventually, her father brought them to the Travis estate, but his wife and legitimate children started abusing them. Agria's father did nothing to stop this and refused to let them leave, and eventually, Agria's mother committed suicide/was murdered. Agria ran away shortly after that because things were getting even worse (one of her step-siblings broke into her room and had Agria's pets killed). Agria lived on the streets for a whie, before she crossed paths with Presa, who convinced her to become a spy for Auj Oule. Agria agreed, went to spy on her family, and eventually, with the rest of the Chimierad and Gaius, confronted and killed two of Agria's step-siblings in a skirmish between Rashugal and Auj Oule. Agria then went and immolated the rest of her family by burning down the Travis estate.

Presa was abandoned by her parents in Auj Oule, who were working as spies for Rashugal. She fell in with the spy tribe in Auj Oule and was sent to find info in Fennmont. She fell in with Alvin there, and outed herself as a spy. He betrayed her, compromised her whole unit and Presa was tortured badly. She ended up being the only one to survive, but she had a death notice by the Spy Tribe so she just went super-deep into her duties. Eventually, Gaius picks her up and she was no longer despised by her own side. She then picks up Agria.

Wingul's description is just spot on. Fun fact, you can actually find him standing around the Orda Palace library in that Nachtigal Fractured Dimension.

Jiao was an outlaw because he killed the Kitarl Tribe Chief who was forcing himself on Jiao's mother. And Jiao's mother died in the scuffle. Jiao lived as a bandit for a while until he met Elize's parents, and was eventually taken in by them. A couple of bounty hunters came for Jiao's head, and Elize's parents were killed by them. Jiao blamed himself for their deaths, and Elize was kidnapped. Since the bounty hunters were sort-of working for Gaius, Jiao went to go take revenge. Jiao kicked Wingul's rear end but Gaius beat him and thought to make use of him. Jiao underwent a penance quest and became chief of the Kitarl Tribe.

Jiao died covering everyone's escape in Fezebel Marsh when the Elympion military was carpet-bombing the area.

Melard was referred to in X1, but never directly named. He's always described as an incompetent egotist.

Otulp there is... well, according to outside sources it's actually supposed to be a mutated Erston which... I don't agree with. Read that name backwards...

The Chimeriad serving under Melard is all sorts of wrong. Wingul would have overthrown the guy if Gaius hadn't first.

Sylphid posted:

Very late edit: after recording the story content for the next update, let me just get things straight so I fully understand what they were going for. Seriously massive spoilers for the next update, so if you haven't played past the next chapter, don't highlight this.

So Victor is Ludger from the fractured dimension you find him in. This dimension's history is an exact mirror of the Prime's, up until the point in which Ludger used his Chromatus too much, became a Waymarker, and became heavily scarred, causing him to wear the mask, change outfits, and call himself Victor.

He knew he had become a Waymarker, just as Odin had become aware of his status, and murdered the entire Xillia 1 main cast, with the exception of Milla and dump their bodies in the lake, which he knew, once Ludger and Elle arrived in his dimension, would cause them to come to Lake Epsilla, where he was hoping to kill Ludger, take his place in the Prime Dimension, and head to Canaan with Elle and wish for a complete reset of his life.
Is that about the high and low of it?

SUPER SPOILERS BE HERE! Victor's Dimension proceeds nearly parallel to the adventure X2 has. Victor finds an Elle of his own, she's the Key, they collect the Waymarkers. That Elle dies along the way, and the waymarkers accomplish nothing because gently caress YOU THAT'S WHY! Eventually Victor fathers his own Elle, who's also a Key. Bisley, Julius and the PCs want to use Elle-Key to bargain with the Prime. Victor flips out and murders everyone, save Gaius whom he cripples, and Milla/Muzet who are in the spirit world. Elle's mother dies from the stress and Victor starts his own plan, which you have correct. He becomes the Dimensional Catalyst host (Bisley was the prior host) and takes Bisley's watch. He enacts the Elle-to-Prime plan and sends her with his watch, while he keeps Bisley's which grants him the Full Chromatus and the final waymarker requiring Prime Ludger to come to him.

You can examine the pictures, and Jude noted that Elle's mother's name is Laura Marta. Considering the fact that Ludger has Emil's cameo costume, that's a fairly big DotNW reference.

Lara Mel Marta.

Which actually makes a funny ancillary story. See, Elle's mother's name is Lalle Mel Marta in the original Japanese. This is shared with a backstory-only character. So said backstory-only character would be changed to Lara as well. And this gives us Lara Lara Travis :v:

Junpei: Alvin, Elize, and Leia
wdarkk: Ludger, Rowen, Jude
McTimmy: Gaius, Muzet, and Milla

Having 9 playable characters really makes it so easy to divide responsibility.

Alrighty then.
Transformation: Agria everyone with no distinction to be as confusing as possible.

Otherwise, in a sensible arrangement:

Gaius: Swords on his feet and left hand. He'll be the new blademaster. I think there's enough to fill every slot?
Muzet: Devil wings on back as large as they can be made. Angel wings on forehead, tiny but noticeable. Schoolgirl costume and hair.
Milla: Final boss Milla mode. Dhaos costume and hair. Gaius's crest and crown piece + rage glasses.

Random related facts time:

Victor: Is the title for the top agent in Spirius. Julius is a Crown Agent and Bisley is the Victor Agent. When Victor-Ludger killed Bisley he took the name-title Victor. One of the NPCs talks about it, and how the Victor Agent got in a fight 22 years ago and hasn't been seen since.
Ludger's hair is originally that gray. The black part is dyed because he thinks it looks cool. When Victor-Ludger realized his parentage he dyed all his hair black.

Now that everything's on the table (at least I'm pretty sure none of this gets brought up in the endings), let's have a rousing round of the the true story of Millia Kresnik and why Chronos is a loving moron.

-Milla Kresnik uses the Hymn of Proof to make contact with Maxwell.
-When Elympios begins making spyrixes, Milla Krenik becomes Maxwell's representative in warning them of the dangers spyrixes represent. Her and Maxwell's declaration goes unheeded and spyrix production continues.
-The Three Primordial Spirits: Maxwell, Chronos, and Origin, discuss their response to spyrix creation. Chronos wants to exterminate them, Maxwell wants... whatever and Origin comes up with the Trial.
-Maxwell, with no faith left in humans, creates the schism and Rieze Maxia. He invites Milla Kresnik and her clan to come with him, but she, and a number of her clanmates refuse. Milla Kresnik hasn't given up on humanity yet.
-The Kresnik Clan begins warring with each other over the Wish that's a reward of the Trial. In addition to the fact that Chromatus L4 is needed and that's best brought out by combat.
-Milla Kresnik eventually succumbs to Catalyzation and forms the First Fractured Dimension. Here, Maxwell didn't leave her and the clan didn't devolve into infighting so they work together to collect the Waymarkers.
-It takes way too long, but Milla Kresnik collects four of the Waymarkers. The only one left is the L4 Chromatus. Which belongs to Millia Kresnik's grandson.
-The grandson's wife takes it from him, so Millia and the wife—Lara Lara Travis, summon Chronos and demand passage to Canaan to end this nonsense.
-Chronos asks for proof—and Lara Lara Travis takes this as murder and fatally wounds Milla Kresnik.
-Milla Kresnik remembers this is a Fractured World and those can't reach Canaan so her whole life has been pointless.
-Lara Lara Travis's fetus becomes the next Dimensional Catalyst Host.

Chronos could have easily ended the Trial and Origin's suffering almost 2,000 years prior but didn't. Chronos full and welly cheats when it comes to punishing humans . He had the choice of Origin's safety or winning and he choose the latter. Choose the latter repeatedly.

EagerSleeper posted:

I don't understand the plot of the game that well, but is the reason why Chronos is an rear end in a top hat because he didn't allow Millia from the fractured dimension that was peaceful to succeed? There's still a lot about the plot that I don't understand.

Chronos is some sort of spirit supremacist rear end in a top hat.

There are three Millas.
-Prime Milla Maxwell, who is currently in the party and was the heroine of Xillia 1.
-Fractured Milla, who was in the party but died to bring Prime Milla back.
-Milla Kresnik, who 2,000 years ago summoned Maxwell. She managed to acquire all the Waymarkers and nearly stop the Trial, but had become a Fractured Dimension doing so. Now, by the "law" of the Trial, Chornos's only job was to escort whoever in the Prime gathered the Waymarkers to Canaan. This is Chornos's sole and only job in the Trial, so, by that thought, he was within his role to ignore bringing her to Canaan. However, Chronos is a big crying baby and cheats. He introduces Chromatus into the Trial, hunts down anyone who can complete the Trial, and deliberately murders Keys of Kresnik because only they have the power to stop him. Even when the Prime acquires the Waymarkers—as seen in-game—Chronos refuses to take the party up to Canaan. His one actual job and he ignores it.

Origin's role is to maintain the balance of souls. When there was only the Prime Dimension, this was all fine and effortless. But now he's dealing with hundreds of thousands of Fractured Dimension's worth of souls straining and tormenting him. The source of these Fractured Dimensions, has its roots with Chornos, who introduced Chromatus, which then makes Fractured Dimensions. Chronos's actions are the primary source of Origin's burden, but he blames humanity for it, because they use something he gave them—and outright need—to complete the Trial. Chronos has had multiple times, throughout 2,000 years, to bring people who have assembled Waymarkers in Fractured Dimensions to Canaan and end the Trial to save Origin. He is fully willing to cheat to ensure humanity fails but not to save Origin. He is outright much more concerned with being right than actually ending Origin's pain—which he caused.
