the democratic socialists have ruled in sweden for 100 years and it's been a fantastic success story

Sweden's literally closing down prisons because their recidivism rates are so low and they don't have swaths of poors reusing medical needles because they can't afford health care

Germany has labor laws that would be considered full blown Ernesto "Che" Communism in the US

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codetermination_in_Germany

quote:

Codetermination in Germany is a concept that involves the right of workers to participate in management of the companies they work for.[1] Known as Mitbestimmung, the modern law on codetermination is found principally in the Mitbestimmungsgesetz of 1976. The law allows workers to elect representatives (usually trade union representatives) for almost half of the supervisory board of directors. The legislation is separate from the main German company law Act for public companies, the Aktiengesetz. It applies to public and private companies, so long as there are over 2000 employees. For companies with 500-2000 employees, one third of the supervisory board must be elected.

There is also legislation in Germany, known as the Betriebsverfassungsgesetz, whereby workers are entitled to form Works Councils at local shop floor level.

With these kind of socialist labor laws, universal education subsidized by the state, and robust health care, Germany has become to economy powerhouse of the EU

Sweden is capitalist. And it works.

It proves that the only way to prevent capitalism from completely cannibalizing itself and destroying the world is with strong, purposeful, socialist policies to offer a counter-balance to capitalisms tendency towards wealth and power concentration and exploitation

During the 1950's and 1960's, the US had a small shift in the socialist direction, with record high Union Participation Rates, record high taxes on the top wealth brackets, massive social programs and entitlement spending, public works programs, education subsidies, and more policies that would be considered EXTREME LEFT WING in today's neoliberalism environment.

during that time America saw the greatest expansion of the middle class in history, the greatest degree of upward mobility, the greatest number of people sharing in the greatest increase of wealth, massive educational opportunities and an awakened generation embracing new liberal ideas like those of the civil rights movement.

Neoliberalism in the 1980's, led by the far right wingers like Ronald Reagan has dismantled all of those structures and protections and resulted in all of those things being eroded for the working class.

Today, Neoliberalism and reaganonics has become unquestioned, with the "left wing" of the nation being led by a corporate-backed, big money, neoliberalism ghost named Clinton

Americans seem to want to return to the Glory Days of the country without any of the conditions that allowed the country to be great. It's pretty funny, in a sad funny way.
