one of the most successful education reform programs in the history of the world was a direct result of radical left wing politics

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CV_cx1p8fhE

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuban_Literacy_Campaign

quote:

In pre-Revolutionary Cuba, there was a dichotomy between urban citizens and rural citizens (who were often agricultural workers). The Cuban Revolution was driven by the need for equality, particularly among these classes. Before the campaign, the rate of illiteracy among city dwellers was 11%, compared to 41.7% in the countryside.[8]

The Literacy Campaign was designed to force contact between sectors of society that would not usually interact. As Fidel Castro put it in 1961 while addressing literacy teachers, “You will teach, and you will learn.”[6] Volunteers from the city were often ignorant of the poor conditions of rural citizens until their experiences during this campaign. Besides literacy, the campaign aimed to create a collective identity of “unity, [an] attitude of combat, courage, intelligence, and a sense of history.” Politicized educational materials were used to further these ideals.[9] The effort was labeled a movement of “the people” and gave citizens a common goal, increasing solidarity.[10]

quote:

It is estimated that 268,000 Cubans worked to eliminate illiteracy during the Year of Education, and around 707,000 Cubans became literate by December 22, 1961.[20] By 1962, the country’s literacy rate was 96%, one of the highest in the world.[12]

Cuban literacy educators trained during the campaign went on to assist in literacy campaigns in 15 other countries, for which a Cuban organization was awarded the King Sejong Literacy Prize by UNESCO.[21] Additionally, over the past 50 years, thousands of Cuban literacy teachers have volunteered in countries such as Haiti, Nicaragua and Mozambique.[3]

right wingers believe that government is inherently evil and can only limit the freedom of the people, if this is true, and if your post is true, then shouldn't freedom loving conservatives support socialist governments?

no yeah i get that it is difficult for any system to handle such a sudden change, but it's good that they are opening their arms to people in need.

i think nations or states that don't want to help with refugee problems should offer to assist the nations that are doing it, so all of these right wing US politicians who want to ban muslims from coming it should offer assistance to nations who are taking it upon themselves to do the good Christian thing

Swedish socialism has been v good to me. It hasn't all been positive, though. My aptitude tests put me on track to municipal level state bureaucracy at an early age, which is fine I guess, but I'd have much preferred working with cars, I think. Ultimately the state knows best though, I suppose, and municipal bureaucrats get half as many ration stamps anyway.

I feel somewhat compelled to give my 2 cents on this subject because i was born and raised in the US (Washington state specifically) and I moved to Sweden about 4 years ago which I was able to do because both my parents are Swedish so I was granted Swedish citizenship.

Sweden is not a 'socialist paradise' as many would have you believe. The weed here is way overpriced and mostly poor quality, you end up paying like twice as much for something that is basicly half the quality of what you would get back in the states and good luck trying to find regular buds because 90 percent of the time all your gonna find is hash and not good hash either. I think Sweden has suffered alot from all the anti weed propaganda basicly way back in the 60s to probly the mid 2000's and its only recently they're trying to cut back on that sort of brainwashing because kids are ODing on spice and going crazy. It's really lame how alot of people here see weed as some sort of gateway drug for heroin or cocaine even though I have countless friends in Seattle who have been smoking weed thier whole lives and have never even tried hard drugs. Another hosed up thing is that dealers are really flakey and since they're so scarce it's easy for them to stay in business since theyres so little competition amongst them. Back where I come from you have to have the best product for the best price and be willing to meet anyone at any time if you want to be a successful pot dealer. Anyways, the whole stigma thats attached to you if you smoke weed is terrible, like I could walk into work on Monday morning and tell my coworker that I was blackout drunk all weekend and woke up in a gutter and he would think it's hilarious, maybe even praise me for it.. But if I tell him I smoked a joint and just hung out at home and relaxed he would look at me like I'm a junkie..

Anyways I hope this helps if somehow Bernie manages to elected I'm sure you guys in the States will have it alot better than us in Sweden.
