Compulsory service is when everybody has to be in the military for a couple years. Israel does it because they have a big national security problem. America is safe, but maybe compulsory service would be a good idea anyway Everybody would get access to the GI Bill. So everybody would have socialized medicine and free college. Plus the physical fitness standards would seriously reduce obesity. Compulsory service would make America healthier, thinner, and better educated what do y'all think?

Yeah, I'm actually hugely in favor of this. I've read some pretty good articles that part of the reason we make such bad decisions with our military is because nobody's in it anymore. Like I wanna say it was something like in ww2 2/3rds of the population had a direct relative (mother/father, brother/sister, son/daughter) serving in the military, but now it's something like 1/5

I unironically support this idea. If everyone was eligible for combat duty we'd be much less gung ho about invading other countries. Now we just rely on minorities and rednecks to win our oil for us.

Not everybody is cut out for the military, South Korea has compulsory service and it is very unpopular and there are all kinds of abuse stories that surface every now and then. if you think wrestling locker rooms are bad, imagine the deviant poo poo that would happen in the testosterone filled barracks if we moved to conscription.

Make it a choice of military service or time spent working on major infrastructure or public works projects, and I'd be OK with this. If anything, having people spend 2 years planting trees or laying railway tracks would probably contribute more to the country than having a mass bunch of grunts with guns and nothing to do with them. It makes sense to keep the military as a volunteer force, especially as it gets more reliant on technology. The stupids will still manage to get run over by bulldozers or eaten by bears, so it'll still help to chlorinate the genepool.
