Hawks have fallen apart since Toews took the double minor penalty and it's allowed Vancouver to tie it up

Yeah thats basically been my experience this year too. Id also include the lesser evil Bruins in this since they never seem to beat the actual evil teams like LA or Anaheim when I want to cheer for them.

Mike Johnston is not an NHL coach and never was an NHL coach, it was baffling that the Penguins hired him from day one, every single game he coached it was baffling that he was still there because he was so obviously in way over his head trying to coach an NHL team, and we will all forever be baffled that anyone ever thought he could coach an NHL team. It was just loving bizarre. Michel Therrien is a Belichickian chessmaster compared to Mike Johnston.

sometimes it's kind of boring and frustrating seeing them pass up shooting opportunities, but i think the penguins have realized the best way to play 3v3 (or 3v4) is to just literally never give up the puck no matter what because you'll either exhaust the other team into giving up a goal or you'll probably be facing gassed shooters in the shootout because there's gotta be a pretty huge overlap between "guys you want out in 3v3" and "best shootout guys" also letang must have maxed out his stamina at the expense of hitpoints in whatever rpg system he was created in because he was out there for that whole OT and didn't seem too bothered. i mean yeah they took a timeout for him but he went right back out and most lesser defensemen would have just had their legs totally burned out by that point

But I will happily take bad/not performing coach fired for team suddenly winning and looks good/dangerous. It's kind of depressing to think that the Pens basically wasted a year of Sid/Geno for Johnston last year though

They had a lot of good chances and Teuvo potted one. Anismov's recent struggles (no goals in 18 games or something) has really held them back. I hope he plays better once his injury heals because the Hawks can roll 4 good lines if Teuvo is shifted down. Also they win in spite of giving up the lead two times, hooray. Erhoff also looked good with TVR (who might have had his best game in a while with a partner who can actually move), but Q will probably blame him for something and sit him again.

I don't want to defend Johnston because he was a lovely coach who was bad at winning or making hockey fun to watch,, but it wasn't his fault that they were stuck with a defense corps of Martin, Scuderi, Lovejoy, Pouliot, and Cole at one point because everybody else was hurt and cap issues forced them to be short one skater.
