Violent conduct is when it doesn't involve challenging for the ball (e.g. punching someone when the ball isn't in play). Kouyate was charged with serious foul play which is a "dangerous" tackle that uses excessive force, and is a straight red. "Reckless" is for yellow cards, basically the difference between "you could have injured him" (yellow) and "it's lucky you didn't break his leg" (red). I think it's one that looks worse because the players are moving towards each other, but he's not gone with two feet and he's also not going full tilt either like your classic Cattermole red card.
