*realtalk switch on* The big problem with eSports is the fact that games are designed to be viewed by the player. So when broadcasting it you get a small view either in first person or focused on one player/team that's difficult to follow. To really make it work it would have to be spectator oriented, with a separate "spectator mode" being rendered to show the audience, as well as designing the game so all the action is confined to an area the audience can see on the screen at once. Admittedly I haven't really watched any eSports so maybe there are some games that pull this off and I just don't know about it. That and they need to find some more marketable people playing it cause these extremeo shutin autism cases they have now are not going to get it done. *realtalk switch off* haha esports r gay an dumb

I've heard some schools are even starting E-Sports as part of their actual sports programs which is hilarious to me when I think about recruitment. Like basketball coach at Louisville got busted for bringing potential recruits to parties full of strippers and poo poo, but i feel like that would scare these guys away, what does the e-sport coach use to convince recruits to come to their school? "And THIS is just an average day of how we get down at Cal" *opens door revealing room packed wall to wall with animes, my little pony plushies, and waifu body pillows*

I was at the gas station and on the TV they had ESPN3 on and they were showing this "Heroes of the Dorm" stuff. I suppose there's nothing really wrong with it and the whole thing seemed.... nice? ... in a way that real live sports doesn't, like people were really there to have fun more than anything. (One of the, uh, nerdcasters was pretty cute, too.) But man I just cannot psychologically accept elevating vidoegames to this level of pagentry, as another person put it. Probably the most damning thing about it is that it actually makes live sports look dumber by extension. Like, is throwing a ball around really that much more respectable? Makes me think even less of folks who really take it seriously. The whole thing made me really want to get out and do something productive.

DOTA2 matches for instance can be watched right in the game client and you can chose to either watch a view controlled by the broadcasting team or you can just zoom around on your own and watch what you want, while listening (or not). It's a huge step up from watching on Twitch or whatever, unless you REALLY love to spam memes in Twitch chat.

You die in DOTA and you have to wait two loving minutes before you respawn. Do you understand what that is like?

It doesn't take the physical side, thus it's an esport. And watching poo poo takes no effort whether it's an esport or the nfl. I think lizard called it though, it makes regular sports appear as dumb as they actually are, and most goons hate all sports because they are in fact dumb, but fun. 1st_Panzer_Div. fucked around with this message at 18:29 on Apr 14, 2016 |

Do it ironically posted:if you play video games and you're over the age of 12 then you should just kill yourself, video games are for children Now that you say this, I don't think I'd have any problem with esports if they were broadcast on Nickelodeon instead of ESPN. Especially since 'Heroes of the Dorm' or whatever game has pretty cartoony graphics and the players themselves looked really young for apparently college-aged students. It also comes down to videogames being an overt form of pretending or make-believe, like playing cops-and-robbers with visuals. Even with strict rules and teamwork, I'd put it closer to hide-and-seek or tag than sports.

The amount of effort is absurd, practice, coaching, etc. And I just won $, there are people here that are salaried, that effort and intensity is so much more. Strategy, replays, studying your opponents, practice, dedication, teamwork, I agree it's not physical, thus the esport vs sport, but there's clear crossovers.

Weirdly though footballs(all codes) is massively popular and it only shows a close up of the dude with the ball 95% of the time, so you have no idea why the offence goes with certain plays/moves over others there either.

What a personal accomplishment for me. Now that I'm good and drunk it's time to go beat up some people who prefer to watch a different group of grown men play the game.
