Seriously, just because Shirow started drawing porn because it was easier to develop than the stories in his early career doesn't mean those stories were bad or anything. The first GITS and GITS1.5 are excellent pieces of cyberpunk, Dominion Tank Police is a hilarious cop comedy, and Appleseed is still quite good sci-fi political thriller, although it seems all it's adaptations are also muddled messes because they try to smash all cool bits together like the spider gun platforms and gently caress it up. I'd love someone to go over GITS2, because there's plenty to plot pieces to mine there but Shirow got too masturbatory with the artwork, both figuratively and literally, that he really didn't know where to go with it.
