What is the point in taking a cartoon series (that nobody cares about) and reshooting them with live actors? So we've moved on from being angry about Tilda Swinton in the Dr.Strange trailer and moved on to this? Gosh, the internet outrage machine moves so fast these days. Also, let's face it, even if they'd cast an asian individual, the internet outrage machine would have said they were the wrong kind of asian, not dark skinned enough, not fat enough...ect ect ect. Personally, I think Scarjo is well cast and looks the part.

the hilarity of anime is that all their characters that are supposed to be japanese actually look white so they hire a white actress who looks more like the character than any japanese would and people flip out that they didn't hire a japanese i think japan probably needs to sort out its own self-loathing

this is right next to the dark tower movie in terms of just plain wrong casting. with that said theyll both probably be good anyway and fun in a "hollywood making a bizarre adaptation where they dont really understand what theyre doing" kind of way. they sort of remind me of that mario bros movie from the 80s but these ones wont be huge flops. plus she looks hot as gently caress especially with her hair like that. one of her best looks yet so that will probably sell the movie on it's own.

Is there anything essentially Japanese in character about the story or ppl in it? I saw the animated movie like 20 years ago, so I don't remember it as being culturally Japanese beyond the fact that Japanese ppl made it.
