Basically don't fly Chinese airlines. And a lot of Asian carriers (i.e. Asiana, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, China Airlines [different from Air China], not to mention the likes of Lion Air and other Southeast Asian LCCs) are lovely due to Confucianism not being conductive to good Crew Resource Management (strict hierarchy, underlings are taught to never question superiors, corruption, etc etc. Just read the PDF).

Pay extra for US carriers. If you have to fly within China, stick with Air China if at all possible because as the successor to CAAC, they have had the most exposure to and experience with international safety standards.

It's interesting how ill-suited some asian languages are for the cockpit. I heard an anecdote about Korean pilots being required to speak English because the (I know nothing about the korean language) conjugation and pronoun choice needed for a co-pilot to address his superior, the pilot, are very awkward to use to when correcting someone.

Do you eat frozen berries from the supermarket? Maybe you drink fruit smoothies or shakes from a juice bar that uses frozen berries? Congratulations, you now have hepatitis.

They all come from China, or if they come from elsewhere are mixed with ones that come from China, where they are fertilized with human poo poo. Only they aren't cleaned before harvest and you're going to eat conceivable fecal contaminate, including probably a few that modern medicine hasn't discovered yet. Hurray for Chinese imported food!

The breaking of Korean cultural norms in order to fix Korea's horrible air safety record is like the foundation myth for corporatism but from what I remember they just chose English because a) it wasn't Korean and b) the cockpit crews had to speak it anyway due to international regulations for pilots. I don't think they got into the pronoun issues.

It would be a problem in Japanese for sure. It's likely that Japanese carriers have to pair up Japanese/non-Japanese co-pilots to avoid the terrible sempai/kohai bullshit.

Is it considered racist to not support the "One China Policy" in this thread? Mods?

If it's not, then there are some news about the Taiwanese guys who got deported to Beijing:

quote:

Nairobi - A lawyer representing some of the Taiwanese nationals extradited from Kenya to China said on Wednesday the Kenyan government acted illegally and he will be suing the state over the violations.

The incident is focusing new attention on Beijing's efforts to assert its sovereignty over self-ruled Taiwan, and the leverage it wields over smaller nations to achieve that.

Lawyer Steve Isinta said he represented 37 of the 111 Chinese and Taiwanese nationals arrested in Kenya over wire fraud allegations. Isinta said his clients were acquitted of all charges last week and the court ordered that their passports be returned and gave them 21 days to leave the country or re-apply to stay.

The government ignored the court orders, singled out 23 of his Taiwanese clients and deported them to China, he said. His clients were also held for four days without charge, he said.

Reminder: Never trust anyone, especially when your passport is involved.

I know many of you think this is Day One poo poo, and you are all seasoned vets who have mastered the art of living in China, but just in case:
Guy was finishing his year contract at Happy Giraffe
Told his boss he was accepting a job somewhere else.
Boss got angry, asked 'why you no stay at happy giraffe?'
"yada yada life choices, want to move on, goals, thanks for the opportunity"
"Ok, if you change your mind, you are always welcome back at Happy Giraffe"
Employee asks for form to transfer his Z visa to another company, buys ticket to other city, ships all his godly possessions there.
Boss says he needs to renounce living in his apartment, since he won't live there anymore. Promises not to cancel anything else.
Police take passport, give him the TING LIU (essentially deportation) 5 days to leave China, don't let the door hit ya where god split ya
He calls boss, she says 'what, must be mistake'
I talk to the police on the phone (HSK-EXPERT WARNING) and they say theres no mistake, the school asked specifically for his visa to be cancelled and on the shortest time frame possible.
Boss calls guy again, says he needs to leave the police station because class starts in a half hour and he has 3 days left on his contract.
I had warned the guy about the dangers of going to the chu-ru-jing and producing his passport, but I guess everyone needs to get China'd a few times to learn for themselves. The police also mentioned this is NOT standard procedure, they usually don't get involved with these affairs unless the school asks them to AND the passport is brought to them.
TLDR If you are leaving a place of employment, its usually better to pull a runner/leave the country, don't expect anyone to smile happily and pay you your bonuses when they can just gently caress you instead

Serious talk for mods, the last china thread was basically the best one in gbs and having it closed made me sad. I don't know why gbs has a tradition of closing every thread that is in any way close to quality, but i think the tactic should be reconsidered

I am an old goon but I remember the old rules and "culture" here.

Basically it was dont be a dick but also it needs to be good. You could be a poo poo if it was funny you could break the rules if it was funny. Hell I agree with lowtax for some time I kept seeing threads here in GBS that had a really good title and then nothing it was like dude gently caress its a good idea just you know loving develop it, put some effort beyond the god drat title.

The reason justice warriors for society is kinda toxic around here and other places is that its blamed for hurting the quality of this place.

gently caress like 10+ years ago there was a goon who had a black pimp living next to him, they struck up a friendship the thread was entertaining, we he had more adventures and came to post more it got shat up by people because the dude was a pimp

along time ago "TheSwami" who was like a proto haier posted some threads about lovely relationships he had with the "true tales of shocking horror" series.

http://www.somethingawful.com/comedy-goldmine/true-tales-shocking/1/

I bet this poo poo wouldnt stand now even though they are well written stories.

Oh and loving Darkpriest who has had Ask/Tell threads about being a pornographer since basically the beginning of the loving site got his thread shat up. And I dont mean the people discussing the morality of porn. I mean the drive by poo poo posting of "HEY DARKPREIST YOU ARE SCUM AND HAVE A WEIRD DICK LOL" level of posts. So yeah this place got more conservative some how.

The last version of this thread ended with the high note of "my chinese father in law was illegal arrested by native Americans and detained on a reservation" because racism. hell there was a minor attempt to say Haier was scum because he has sex with women who are in a "poor country"

What really caused the revolt with gbs a few years ago was that any attempt to be creative got shut down, but then it just became mega threads and RSS new articles. I honestly miss photo shop friday. some of the urban Exploring or when that good would draw a choose your own adventure.

The last truely creative thing I really enjoyed here was when goons did that draw E/N threads.

I enjoyed the lovely kickstarter thread it loving rotated between day Z, star citizen and doobie so there was never a lull and empty posting, but it got gassed when a goon loving jacked off on a photo of doobies wife. (which I think is a good call on that one)

I liked the bitcoin thread but it got moved and by the time I found it I wasnt gonna catch up anytime soon.

Okay I am ranting I will shut up now.

edit:

Blue Star Error posted:

That because a poster who isnt a mod came in and tried to dictate how to run a thread when again he could just not read it, or start his own and we can see which one will be of higher quality.

I think the thread with goons who live in/ deal with/ have/are chinese are gonna make a better quality thread.

gently caress I remember when Lowtax would say "JUST loving VOTE 1 AND MOVE ON"
