recently ive been hearin about a thing called appropriation. contrary to its name, it has nothing to do with things that are appropriate like giving treats to your doggie when he's a good boy or raw-doggin the old lady when she's got the moon sickness. appropriation is takin a thing from someone who had it first and saying "no, you must let me have it also, even though I did not earn it as you did". it's basically biff makin poor george mcfly do his homework but worse, much worse :(

it started with one friend explaining that urban outfitters dicked over the perpetually dicked-over Native american indians, specifically the navajo, by appropriating. I inquired further and it came to my attention that noted jewish person matis yahoo appropriated reggae music from the people of jamaica. those guys worked so hard at makin a cool new music genre that they made an entire religion and hair-do as a support. then mr. yahou did a reggae voice impression (an "accent") to use as he reggaed and this was appropriation.

The discussion then turned to mr boombastic himself Shaggy (music performer not cartoon mystery druggie or literal clown) who uses a very pronounced reggae "accent" that is entirely different from his boring rear end plain old american soundin voicetalk. however i learned that for him it was just basically borrowin from a pal. I don't know what the difference was tho :( I have more questions now than i did back when I thought appropriation was just feedin a crying baby or touchin a thing because it looks like it feels weird and new.

but something awful is basically the modern equivalent of the library of Alexandria and ill be damned if I can find a better place where this topic can be explained properly and discussed rationally and without foolishness, guff, bad attitudes, wisenheimers, or rude fuckers

So school me on what is culturally appropriate. Discuss your most and least faves appropiationwise (eg my most fave: corn artwork. least fave- wearin condoms) discuss real world poo poo with real world motherfuckers. School and be schooled alike without bein a tightass know-it-all buttheads like those d&d clowns with their capitalization of letters and their links to wikipedia and their unwetted dicks

given that our family has never employed or owned mammies is this appropriation of southern culture

I stopped reading the OP about 38% through, so I dunno if there was a punchline or not, but the real punchline are people who think cultural appropriation is a problem.

Wry and wise,
but also very sexual.

a culture of bacteria or a virus is the same as a culture of humans. cultures want to grow and spread and evolve.

you can't steal it, great works infects you like herpes, changes you as the works before it changed the creators. no one can speak for a culture.

its bad form not to give credit when asked about your influences, that's shutting the door behind you. but saying that cultures should stay in one spot is insanity even if it weren't fiercely racist. its straight up anti-cultural
