I imagine it's something that got way lost in translation, but I still cannot make heads or tails of that line, and I've been playing this game since before the sequel came out. I thought he was saying that about how going to the Church is dumb and it's just delivered really badly.

That reminds me of Golden Sun where you can end the game super early if you say no to taking the quest to save the world.
