Everything Ewan has said is pretty spot on except do talk to strangers. Seriously, it's fine. I have been here for 10 years and I have not died even though I have struck plenty of conversations with random people. Obviously don't do it in morning rush hour on the tube but in a pub or an environment like that it's great. Also you'll notice that London is incredibly diverse and cosmopolitan. It's about 40% white British these days I think which means that many of the British stereotypes just don't apply.

Go to: Dalston, Peckham, Hoxton for good nights out and excellent food from all over the world.

Pizza in the UK is very sub-par. Your best bet is to get it from a kebab shop and hope you get lucky. You know it's bad when Dominos is the pizza joint of choice for most townies.

It's gotten much better in recent years, though. At least down in London. Chains like Franco Manca are raising the standard of good sourdough pizza. And placed like Voodoo Ray's are good for American style pies.
