So why are they even keeping Jackson on the back of the bill? It's not like it'll appease the two or three Jackson partisans out there anyway.

I like the idea of putting a black person on the 20. I don't like that it's a former slave. Don't get me wrong what she did was heroic and she's an American hero. I just think it's gross that the most commonly used bill is going to going to be a constant slap in the face to African Americans. All these years later and still all we think of is as slaves. Put Obama on the 20, Martin Luther King Jr, thurgood Marshall, Morgan Freeman

Guys if we're gonna rag on jackson we're going to do it right. He didn't just genocide indians. He genocided indians while laughing in the face of the supreme court that just told him it was illegal to. He also lead a horribly corrupt presidency because he just gave the jobs to his supporters regardless of if they could do said jobs or not.

Maoist Pussy posted:You aren't wrong but, on the other hand, wallowing in transferred guilt is unhealthy so gently caress that. My point is that like with slavery we've "fixed" it to the best of our ability. We don't have slaves anymore, it's certainly a black mark on our history that has longlasting repercussions even today, but there's not really a lot of direct and tangible steps we can do about it at this point. how we treated the natives and screwed them out of their land tho? We can right that right now, we can just give em back the land. So long as we're not doing that we're tacitly agreeing it was a good idea and vital to our modern way of life, every second we keep their soil is another second of saying it was ultimately the right move to make. It's frivolous to whine about it while directly benefiting from our inaction to right said wrongs. America has decided as a whole we're okay with having taken everything from them and that we continue to be okay with it.
