Neo Central City - 20XX It's been nearly a hundred years since the existence of Empowered individuals and monsters first became known to the public, when a single brave robot successfully saved Central City from a giant lizard attack. Since then the world's eagerly followed the exploits of its super-powered saviors, the dastardly villains that they oppose, the rampaging monsters that only they can stop. It's just one of those things that everyone accepts - magical girls, mecha pilots, ninjas, sword ghosts, ki-manipulators, aliens, time travelers, robots, espers, and all the rest are quite real, and there sure is a huge variety of them. No city has seen more of the action than Neo Central City, which has been rebuilt so many times it got Neo added to its name along the way. Hi-tech and grandiose, it sprawls on for dozens of miles in all directions. As a matter of fact its so large that its been divided into twenty-five different zones, all of which are patrolled by teams from the League of Heroes - a globally spanning organization based out of Neo Central. Serving as an organizing / guiding force for Heroes throughout the world, it also provides equipment, funding, headquarters, training, etc. Some people say that the League basically serves as a protection racket - and others still whisper that they cause the monsters attacks and villainous rampages to begin with - but overall they're adored by the public. The League also ranks Heroes, and groups new ones onto teams before assigning them an area based on their relative competency and power. The ranks range from S to D. All of you are, unfortunately, ranked D, which has gotten you assigned to one of the worst places an aspiring hero can get - a block of nice, working class neighborhoods without any real history of crime. And that's why you all are stuck out in Zone Twenty-Three - it's considered one of the safest and peaceful areas in the city, making it perfect for a low ranked team like yours. Aside from defending the innocent, truth, and justice, you actually have a fair amount of time to yourselves - which is only fair, since the League isn't paying low-ranked Heroes like you much at all. You're going to have to try hard to impress them if you want to rank up and be acknowledged as the heroes you truly are - plus you have to manage your free time, keep the locals happy, and perhaps look into the whispers of a mysterious source behind the recent rise in Empowered activity? No one ever said being an anime hero is easy. -------------------------------- This is the recruit thread for a play by post game of Masks, a PbtA hack about playing teenage As far as the Playbooks go, I'm fine with any of them, though I'd appreciate it if everyone sticks to the "anime / manga / shonen" theme - feel free to reflavor the playbooks to accomplish this. NOTE: I am being extra-lenient with the Abilities each playbook has. So long as you're following the themes and moves of your playbook, I'm cool with the options the book presents being reskinned / writing in your own - though if you have a question about one or want to get something approved before your write an app based around it, you can always message me and I'll let you know. For your app, please post an image (optional but super encouraged), backstory, character sheet, and some answers to the questions I'm about to ask. If you're stuck on how to frame the app, maybe just go with your PC being interviewed by a League of Heroes official / higherup, as an easy suggestion. It's probably a good idea to answer the backstory questions your playbook asks somewhere throughout your background fiction, and in addition to those, please answer the following. I will probably ask an extra round or two of questions throughout the recruitment process as well. 1. What made you decide to join the League of Heroes? Do you have a positive or negative opinion of them? 2. What significant Hero or Villain have you had a run-in with? Why are they likely to remember you? 3. What do you like to do in your free time, and where do you like to hang out? 4. (Optional) When this series transitions from being a manga to having its own anime adaptation, what theme music would you have? What would your voice sound like? 5. (Optional) A name for the thread, since the current one kinda sucks. Think that's about it. Thanks for reading / any apps I get, and again, feel free to message me if you have any questions. EXTRA INFO FROM IRC <Rauri> and I didn't make it clear in the thread, but I guess in case it helps anybody - as of right now, the League of Heroes groups empowered stuff into three categories. Monsters are big rampaging monsters or obviously inhuman things, villains are powerful evil people or people-like things, and Heroes are empowered or extraordinary people that stop them <Rauri> there are unlicensed / independent Heroes, but you're not them and also the league doesn't like them much. <Heliotrope> Rauri - does the League do anything about heroes who aren't with them or do they just dislike them? <Rauri> as far as you know, they don't do anything... <Rauri> unless you want your PC to have seen them doing something about them, which they obviously actually do, in which case go ahead Rauri fucked around with this message at 11:18 on Apr 24, 2016 |

Ashley "Ash" Fear, the Nova U-uh, hey there! Hi! I'm Ashley Fear, although I just go by Ash. Uh, it's nice meeting you! So where should I start? The beginning? Oh right, of course, haha. Okay. So, my family is pretty good at the magical arts, as I'm sure you know. We've had a lot of family members who serve important positions using their gifts all over the world. So it wasn't really too much of a surprise to my parents when I manifested mine at a young age. They weren't too worried when I blew the bars off my crib, since showing potential at that age was good. They laughed when I made a puppy out of pure magic. They, uh, weren't so happy when I was home alone watching a scary movie, freaked out, and demolished the house. My older brother was the one who had convinced me to watch it with him, but...he got hurt. Really bad. He...he had to go to the hospital. Thankfully he turned out okay! No permanent damage, but my parents realized just how much power I had. Not just certain powers, like how some people from my family specialized in certain types of magic, but actual fundamental control over the forces of magic itself. So, uh, after some consulting with a bunch of people, they talked options with me. And it seems that Neo Centeral City not only needs heroes, but provides for them! So they arranged for me to move here, and uh, here I am! I mean, really my only other option would be to just isolate myself and try not to magically explode again. But...these powers are kind of a part of me, right? And...and I figure, if this is a part of me and I can use it to help people, why not focus on that? Why not be a superhero, for those who can't? And I really like the people I've met here - I'm, uh, still a little nervous about this but most of them are pretty cool! Maybe being around people like me will help out too! I've done a bit of, uh, heroing? Is that the right term? Anyway, heroing on my own. I've helped solve a few cases by talking to nearby spirits, and launched some bolts of magical energy at some bank robber's car. That kinda went, uh, well...I'm sure you saw the news, right? At least no one was hurt. I did manage to pass the test by doing some minor magic - slowing a fall from a great distance (enough for me to land safely), summoning the small version of the magic dog I call Buddy, restraining someone for a short period of time, speeding myself up a bit. Stuff like that. So I said I passed, right? Well, uh, I did only get into the D level. They said I'm there because of, uh, my current lack of control and how I had to do small things for the test so as not to be a danger. They kind of want to make sure I can actually handle myself before sending me after really big things that the higher grade heroes get to do. Which is fair enough, I suppose! So, uh, any more questions? quote:
quote:What made you decide to join the League of Heroes? Do you have a positive or negative opinion of them? The reason I decided to join up with you guys is because, well, you guys do a lot of good! And I figure, maybe you can help me control my powers a little better? I mean, my parents sent me here for that reason. I guess I just need a little more experience in the real world, right? And uh, destruction kind of happens with super heroics, right? Not that I'm going to be lax about collateral damage! Just, you know. Wondering. Uh, next question please. quote:What significant Hero or Villain have you had a run-in with? Why are they likely to remember you? Oh, I met that really cool witch who goes by the name Twilight Sorceress. I, uh, don't know what her real name is. Anyway, she remarked on my outfit and she had a similar witch-themed outfit too. We started talking, and I ended up telling her my worries. She said she's be glad to take me under her wing, but I couldn't really accept because, uh...she's kind of...not with the League? I mean, I know you guys don't want us hanging out with heroes like them, but she's really nice! And she helps me out, gives me advice and all that. Honestly, I think she's helped with keeping my powers under control. Huh? Why doesn't she want to join? I dunno. I asked, and she just ruffled my hair and said "Ah, don't worry about it kiddo. Politics. Too complicated for you to worry about." quote:What do you like to do in your free time, and where do you like to hang out? Dancing! I'm actually pretty athletic. Nothing on the level of the other superheroes here, but otherwise really good. There's a bunch of clubs in the city too! My favorite is Club Sarcasm. Yeah, I, uh, don't know why it's called that either. But it's somewhere I can get into on the weekends and they have some really good DJs and a great big dance floor and incredible drinks and oh man it's really fun - er, sorry. Started rambling, hahaha. Uh, yeah, anyway that's where I like to hang out! quote:(Optional) What would your voice sound like? Quiet and soft-spoken. Jumping Flash "You can be a hero." Those words, said to me by the A-Rank hero Sir Justice, have been etched onto my soul for ten years. Name? Jackie James, though you can call me Jumping Flash, the newest rising star in the League of Heroes! Gotta tell ya, this is a bit of a childhood dream come true for me. I've idolized heroes since I was young, and none were more important to me than Sir Justice. I mean, he was an A-Rank from our very own Zone Ten, he was a hometown hero! I wanted to be just like him and to make my home zone proud, and that dream became closer than ever when my powers awakened. When I was about 13, there was a big fire in Zone Ten, and it hit my apartment building. The place was an inferno, falling apart! As I was trying to get out with my mom, the floor crumbled right beneath my feet! But...I didn't fall. I was standing on the air as if it was solid ground. Sensing an opportunity, I busted out the nearest window and carried her down with me! It wasn't even scary, it was like I was walking down a staircase! After the fire subsided, a couple of the heroes present approached me about what I had done. One of them was Sir Justice himself. He said that...he was proud of me. And he said those five words that changed my life forever. After that, I trained day in, day out. My schoolwork was balanced with physical and mental training until I got out of school. Two years ago, I had my best friend and confidante Suzi Kyu make me this suit and get me out on my own fighting crime. Of course, she doesn't really think I should be doing it. "You'll get hurt, Jackie!" "Does your insurance cover this?" "You're costing me hundreds in replacement material!" "Come work for my company instead!" But it was all worth it when I finally got accepted into the League of Heroes! Of course, I'm at the rank bottom, but that's all the more people to impress as I make my way up! Just watch, I'm gonna make Zone Ten proud! Watch out, Neo Central! There's a new hero in town! quote:Hero Name: Jumping Flash quote:1. What made you decide to join the League of Heroes? Do you have a positive or negative opinion of them? Doing independent hero work was fun, but if I wanna be taken seriously as a hero, the League of Heroes is the only way to go! The League of Heroes represents the best that Empowereds can bring to this world, and I'm honored to be a part of such a wonderful institution, even if it's at the bottom rungs! quote:2. What significant Hero or Villain have you had a run-in with? Why are they likely to remember you? I told you about Sir Justice already. An electrifying A-Rank hero whose greatest accomplishment was taking down Dr. Bomber 15 years ago. He's a pretty big deal in my neck of the woods. When I was an independent hero, I actually ran into him on patrol once. I approached him and introduced myself, even though he probably didn't remember me from the fire. To my surprise, he actually did recall me! He said he was proud of me and he looked forward to seeing me in the League. I, uh, haven't actually talked to him since, though. quote:3. What do you like to do in your free time, and where do you like to hang out? Well, there's my hero fan podcast, the Flashcast! I've got, like, 20 listeners! I also spend a lot of time on the MMO Last Story XV. Justice server, of course. Y-Yeah, it's a European server, so what? I'm also an avid collector of comic books. You can usually find me at the Lost Galaxy comic shop. It's great that Zone Twenty-Three has a place like this where I can get my fix! quote:4. Fast, Furious, Better Than You Slipstream Inspirations: Jet Set Radio, Scott Pilgrim, Snow Crash, Kind of Code Geass, The World Ends With You, Kza Haaaaa, look man, you just gotta DO IT . I mean, sure, I had my own help from my dad's company and poo poo, but you gotta.... If you want to be a hero, you have to DO IT . No amount of help will get you there without that shine, that power, that trick- doesn't have to be superpowers, you just gotta do SOMETHING, man. Open your mind, feel the flow, bump to the beat, be you- whatever you have to do. There's that spark, that need, that shine! You gotta have the shine. I sure did. Look, I saw heroes fighting on TV, and I wanted to do that. If people are going to cause some loving trouble, well. I'm good at things. I've skated all my life, I'm fast, I'm quick, and I've got a few good tricks up my sleeve, so why not do it? I needed a bit more, so I built the Gauntlets- special gloves with mini-crossbows attached to each hand, a variety of ammo swapping into it depending on how I flex my wrists. It... took a bit to learn to not accidentally shoot things. Dad eventually stopped replacing the television in my room. I mean, my family isn't really keen on the whole superhero thing? Dad didn't take 'I've been skating all my life and training for this poo poo' as a good 'yes, absolutely do this' deal, but he's paying for my equipment at least? So that's nice. I mean, it helps that he's the CEO of Lancaster Sporting Goods, too. Haaaa.... He helps, but begrudgingly, and i think he's sort of waiting for me to decide I'm done with all this at any given time. Oh, and his marketing team designed my costume. They couldn't help but put the company's Stars on there- our dumb little logo. Luckily, stars are used for a bunch of things so hopefully they won't immediately associate me with them? Ugh, eventually I've got to re-design this thing, but... well, it'll be good for now. But like... someone has to do it, and skating just isn't as fun now that I've tasted the Real Deal. You wouldn't be able to stop, either. Once you've gone past... Once you've stepped into the Olympic swimming pool, could you ever go back to the kiddy pool? I loving doubt it, nerd. Have you ever... Ever felt like you were listless? Like you just couldn't do poo poo? Like you couldn't be you, like you were just some useless loving nerd wallowing in your own uselessness? I used to feel like that, sometimes. But now that I've tasted real... responsibility, real power, real poo poo? I don't. I feel GOOD. I feel faster, quicker, better, stronger. I don't think I really am any of those things, but maybe it's just the confidence. Ha... Sometimes, it's easy to forget that people aren't like this all the time. There's a high in it, I guess- you feel better than everyone else. Wouldn't anyone be full of themselves, once they've seen the light? How do people NOT do this? Just... excel? How did I ever not, how did anyone ever not? Isn't there a thing you should be doing, as great, as hard as you can? Isn't there a need, a need to be the best you possible? Well, honey, this is loving it. This is me. I'm a loving superhero, what are you? quote:Hero Name: Slipstream They have all these recruitment ads on tv, and, like... more improtantly, they're where heroes are! That place is the scene, where all the important heroes are, you can't really accomplish anything without being registered. And most of all, they have the tv. They have publicity! I work with them and I can get on the news, or anywhere really. People will know who I am, say my fukkin name! poo poo, that's what I live for. 2. What significant Hero or Villain have you had a run-in with? Why are they likely to remember you?[timg] http://simg4.gelbooru.com//samples/41/ec/sample_41ecb15c1018c12ed08794b2e3de9214.jpg?3124164[/timg] Vulcan is the worst. With that big hammer and those gems on his shoulder, the guy can build practically anything he needs for a fight. And like, I was doing just fine fighting this guy in a robot suit when he comes in and steals the goddamn save from me, apprehending the guy himself!SUUUUPER uncool, yanno? I mean, gently caress. So I gave him a look and he goes on about propriety and how I obviously couldn't handle it and, yeah, I was having a bit of trouble against the guy, but I had it under control! So I spat in his drat face, B rank or not, that's not how you loving treat another hero. He was too drat surprised that I'd smudge his BEAUTIFUL VISAGE to even stop me from leaving. 3. What do you like to do in your free time, and where do you like to hang out? I'm pretty good at videogames. Ive placed in the all city SUPER HERO FIGHTERS tournaments every year, though I've never won the thing. I used to skate, but that's mostly part of my hero stuff so I'm not really sure it counts, anymore? Uhh, believe it or not I'm also learning to cook, though at the moment I'm pretty ads at it. One day I'll make a drat fine pizza or some poo poo. Not today. As for a place to hang? poo poo, it should be obvious. GRAND MASTER GRAV'S GRAVITY PARK AND ARCADE. All capitals,he says. He's a retired hero with gravity powers, uses them to run a skatepark where you can go at ninety degree angles, jump between floating platforms, all kinds of poo poo. It's ducking awrsome, and it has food and videogames too, so as far as I'm concerned it's paradise. 4. (Optional) When this series transitions from being a manga to having its own anime adaptation, what theme music would you have? What would your voice sound like? Jet Set Radio Future- Funky Dealer. Koneko Hoshino Nijuban News TODAY! posted:This is your totally normal and average school president and head of the journalism club, Ko-ne-ko~! Here to give you the scoop, as always, since I know all you out there have been dying to hear about what's going on here in Zone Twenty-Three, and especially here at Nijuban High! So, you might know that we have a few new heroes here in our own little Zone, and you know with new heroes, that means new gossip for all of us! Now, this is from Satoshi from Class 1-C, who apparently saw a hero made out of shadows, who teleported into a tree, and rescued his neighbor's cat just two days ago! This new hero seems to go by the name of Wanderer, and looking into it like a good journalist, I've found he's actually not a new hero! While he's new to our Zone, he actually hails from Zone 17 - but is notable for being a hero who refuses to be tied down, going wherever his feet take him! How respectable of him, everyone, if you see a tall man in a black trench coat on a hot summer day, it might be this Wanderer, and you don't need to be scared! Stardust Scout Who the Stardust Scout might be - why, it's been me all along, Class President, Journalist, Hero Enthusiast, and Star Born Hero of Justice - the Stunning Shield, Stardust Scout! By day a model student who anyone would envy, by night - and sometimes day - the guardian of our precious Zone! With the power to turn love and happiness into starlight, I protect the rights of everyone to enjoy their lives, free from the tyranny of monsters and villains, able to enjoy their youth while they have it! Because the one thing everyone deserves in life is just that - the ability to be happy! A double life can be hard to keep, especially when you're a role model for everyone at your school, and have to be the model student, but when the Sacred Starlight shone on me, I knew that I had to take the chance, and do my duty, to protect the world from the dangers of other Empowered! I don't know why it chose me, but I would be lying if I said I didn't love every moment of it! I've always loved heroes, I mean, who doesn't want to be a hero when they're young, but for me, it was more than that - they were these paragons of goodness, they had so much power, but cared for others. I wanted to be like that! I worked so hard every day because I knew I wouldn't have the powers to fight monsters, so I would help my fellows however I could - but now? Now I do both! And it's awesome! Okay, sure, last week I kinda got my section in barely before we printed, and I might have missed an important student council meeting, but I had to get my heroes license for the first one, and the second was while I was foiling a robbery at a local corner store! Those are important things to do! I'll just have to work even harder - after all, I need to keep up all of my jobs!!! But look - I just need to call out By the power of the cosmos, and bam - white hair, white dress, a magical staff, and no one seems to be able to recognize who I am - I mean I recognize me, but no one else does - I think it's just... part of the magic! And who else can say they have the ability to do that - who can really complain about having to be a hero, when they have other things to do? I'm just hopeful this whole hero thing works out, and no one finds out - I mean, it was hard enough to convince the association to let me in without showing them my secret identity - I can't waste this chance! After all, I want to be Koneko Hoshino and Stardust Scout, not Koneko Hoshino the Stardust Scout - sometimes I need to get away from being me, and I can be another me, and it's great! quote:Name: Koneko Hoshino quote:1. What made you decide to join the League of Heroes? Do you have a positive or negative opinion of them? Well like, every hero should be part of the League - they provide training, and a little bit of pay, and help with collateral damage, and will help pay for your medical bills if you get really hurt in the line of duty! That's like, totally super obvious - unlicensed heroes are a danger to themselves and others, and gasp might not even pay for the damages they do, unless the Hero League graciously decides to cover them regardless of affiliation! I like them a lot, and I think they give young heroes in training like me a good way to learn from the pros - didn't you know that once a year all D and C class heroes get together with volunteer A and B class heroes, and get to learn from real pros? How else would I get that!? I wouldn't!!!! quote:2. What significant Hero or Villain have you had a run-in with? Why are they likely to remember you? Ooh, this one's easy, the evil villain Rosethorn - she's like, above my threat level, by a good bit, and like should be fought by multiple C-class, or a B-Class or two, something like that! But well, we're usually a pretty quiet district, and I guess she thought she could get away with some havoc here, but I was there! And well... it didn't go great, I mean, I totally lost, but I deflected her blows for like, ten solid minutes, and didn't let her get away, so some heroes from neighboring Zones got here in time to stop her! She uh, when they were putting her in the police van, she kind of swore vengeance on me for that and uh, s-showing off my... chest..., and said she'd get me as soon as she escaped... and uh. She escaped the next day, so... yeah. quote:3. What do you like to do in your free time, and where do you like to hang out? Free time? Oh gosh, that makes it seem like I have free time - well, when I'm not at school, or writing for the journalism club, or at council meetings doing event planning, I actually run a - fairly large - makeup and fashion tutorial (and sometimes superhero reporting) channel on Nicovideo! I mean, I get like, fifteen thousand unique views a day - enough to get actual like, money from ads and stuff! Which... isn't really free time, I guess, since it makes it a job. But it pays for the clothes and make up, and to go out to eat sometimes, and to buy lots of energy supplements, because of my late nights... The good thing though is I have a portable recorder system, which means I can totally like, set up a camera and go anywhere to do my fashion videos! I like to go to the park, because the fountain looks really good in background shots. My superhero videos aren't as popular as the makeup or fashion, but like, I've had a few people recognize me from my videos in real life, which is totally cool! And I bet I can make even better videos now, since I'll see so many more villains to report on! Though I gotta be careful and keep my cover up... Background: I'm not a science chick. Sure, I can follow most of my fathers research and I'm no slouch when it comes to engineering, but in the end, all I ever wanted was space, a good guitar and a world to listen to me jam (the speakers loud enough to melt your face off is optional. Heavily wanted, but optional). So what is a teenager like me doing in a military suit like this? Not by choice, I assure you. It all started when my father was elected President of Hamasaki industries, inheriting it after the death of his mentor and longtime friend, Hiroshima Hamasaki. See, my father had a gift of invention. He made things people never thought were possible. Like the Zero-G difuser system, for example. The Zero-G diffuser was designed to be added to a specialized suit of armor. The microbe was injected into your body, through the suit, where it would respond to your every thought in realtime. You and the suit became one. The suit was you. You was the suit. Okay, you know how you can walk without even thinking about putting one foot in front of the other? Same concept. Nanites from the Diffuser works hand in hand with the Zero-G microbes, which boosts reactions and thinking time. This, in turn, allowed the user of the suit to be able to access the thousands of subroutines in said suit in order to access various features. Increased strength, fast healing, increased sight, supplements to increase bone and muscle density... you literally become a super soldier. Practically invincible. I helped him build a prototype suit and even test drove it through simulations (without the microbe injection, of course, that was still experimental). This suit was going to revolutionize warfare and do something unthinkable: It would allow the common man/woman to become empowered over night. Which was why my father scrapped the idea and planned on destroying the prototype. Such technology would be devastating if it fell into the wrong hands. And those wrong hands didn't like that. Those wrong hands grabbed my father. Kept as a prisoner, the terroist group, known as C.H.A.O.S. (Champions of Hate, Anarchy, Obstruction, and Supremacy), wanted to force my father to build them a prototype for mass production. But there was something they didn't count on. Me. I put on the suit and I assaulted their base like a one woman army. It was an incredible feeling. But I was a fool. I made two mistakes: One, I didn't take the Microbe injection, despite carrying it with me in the suit itself. Second, I interrupted a UN peacekeeping force from organizing an assault on the place. Third... not only did I fail to save my father... but as I foolishly left the suit to try to administer cpr on him, I was shot in the spine as a result. Paralyzed from the waist down. My father died inches from me, but before doing so, he injected my helpless body with the Microbe (I was going to use it on 'him' to heal him before I was shot). Thanks to the Microbe, I was able to control the suit to it's full potential when I got back in it (inside the suit, the Zero-G Difuser compensates for my spinal injury, allowing me to have full bodily function. I managed to escape the island. ...thus began the career of The Invincible Zero-fighter. ...and the end of the dreams of Sumiye Mishima. The Bull posted:Real Name: Sumiye Mishima Questions posted:1. My only memories of us together are fuzzy, but I remember us on sitting at the old table in the hall, working on a jigsaw puzzle. Dad was across from me, and I was sitting on Mom’s lap. I don’t remember what the puzzle was; it changes every time I think back to then. Sort of like how my mom’s face doesn’t quite stick in my mind. But I remember that we were happy then, before the accident. After that, Mom was gone, Dad was as good as gone, and I was alone. How did you change? What caused it? My dad would send me puzzles from the road. He’d tried to get the most interesting ones he could find for me; wire puzzles, burr puzzles, slider puzzles, and of course jigsaws. I wasn’t all that good at them, but when I worked on a puzzle, it felt kind of like we were all together again, if that makes sense. It had been a while since I’d last heard from him, but that happens. He travels a lot to places without reliable cell or internet. So when I finally got a package, I opened it right away. It was very old; a jigsaw puzzle in a battered box marked with an stylized eye. The pieces were made from a warm, lacquered wood and fit snugly together. The dark wood gave up no clues to the image it would reveal, but that was fine. I loved puzzles, a voice was telling me, and I couldn’t resist them. And so, piece by piece, it revealed itself. Even as I felt as if something was standing behind me, watching me, directing my hands, I kept working on the puzzle. Even as the dread rose and the image became clearer. Even as I recognized those hands, those clothes, that face as my own. Even then, I continued to work. And when the last piece went in, the world fell away. In the darkness, I heard whispers. I saw myself fall apart and I drew myself together again. When I woke up, I was like this. I…wasn’t able to put myself back together right. It’s like someone was trying to do a jigsaw, got frustrated and tried to hammer the pieces in where they didn’t fit. Those early days…I don’t like to talk about then. Who, outside the team, is helping you understand your new body? It was about a month after I’d changed. I still hadnt heard from Dad and on top of everything else I was freaking out about that. That was when Cassandra showed up at my door. I wouldn’t have let her in being…the way I am, except for what she slipped under the door. It was the eye symbol that was on box that the jigsaw came in. She was blind and had been for years, she told me. Ever since she received a strange puzzle box that stole her sight but granted her clairvoyance. She had been hunting for its source ever since, which was how she had found me. She’d found many victims of the puzzles over the years; most did not last long. But she had high hopes for me. I’m not sure how I would have made it through back then without her. Why don’t you just try to hide yourself away? There’s one big reason. We call him the Puzzle Maker; whoever it is that sent out the puzzles that changed me and Cassandra is still out there, hurting people and they need to be stopped. Also…I need to find out what happened to my dad. It’s been almost a year and I haven’t heard a word; I think whoever did this to me did something to him. And to be honest, I like puzzles, and crimesolving is just another puzzle. Even if I don’t always get the appreciation more glamorous heroes get, I like it. Why do you care about the team? Because they care about me and because I know they’ll have my back when it comes time to stop the Puzzle Maker. 1. What made you decide to join the League of Heroes? Do you have a positive or negative opinion of them? The League of Heroes has resources that your average person doesn’t. Plus, the money is starting to run out and even a D-Rank’s stipend would help. And...Well, there's the name. I didn't pick the name Junior Jumble. OBVIOUSLY. You can register without a name, which I did. But it turns out that when you do that, you're just leaving yourself open to someone picking your name for you. Some jerk on the Capewatch wiki put my name down as "Junior Jumble" (because I am a minor and I have puzzle powers. It is very clever, you see) Then, when a newspaper was looking for how to credit me they checked the wiki. And then it some enterprising bureaucrat at the League changed my registry to fit. I've gotten used to it but...man, they really don't like you trying to change your name and they are not helpful at all. I get the feeling that they don't like unphotogenic heroes. 2. What significant Hero or Villain have you had a run-in with? Why are they likely to remember you? I had a run in with the Hammer last week. You know, big guy with a bigger hammer in a mech suit? Hijacked a drone fleet and held the city hostage last year? He'd just gotten the worse of a fight with Fulminaizer and was desperate for parts to fix his suit, so he held up a Compuworld that just so happened to be on my patrol. There wasn't much of a fight. Even wrecked as he was, he was way, way above my weight class, but my curse isn't the kind that's easy to sort into a class. Which means that I got lucky. I got him confused by splitting up, drawing fire so that Compuworld employees and customers could get away. My power lets me do some...odd stuff. Make things fall apart, come back together, shift around, that sort of thing. And if I throw a hard enough whammy at something and cross my fingers, it'll fall apart--which is what happened to Hammer. His armor fell to pieces at his feet along with his clothes just as the heavy hitters showed up to arrest him. So I think he'll remember me. 3. What do you like to do in your free time, and where do you like to hang out? I was always an indoor person, even before going outside became kind of a nightmare. I'll put on something concealing and go see a movie, or maybe stay in and do a puzzle. I've been trying to get into video games but ehhhh doesn't seem to be for me. 4. (Optional) When this series transitions from being a manga to having its own anime adaptation, what theme music would you have? What would your voice sound like? This is Junior Jumble's theme music. Her voice is low, quiet, and raw, like someone with a sore throat. 5. (Optional) A name for the thread, since the current one kinda sucks. [Masks] D-Rank Heroes - Maybe They Grade on a Curve? Sandra Miller/Nemesis, the Bull It doesn't happen every day one of the most feared super-villains walks into your headquarters and asks to join you, does it? Well, that can happen if said super-villain isn't really much of a villain. Let me explain. You see, I've never wanted any of this. One day, you're in your bed, worrying about tomorrow's math test. The next day, you wake up floating in a tube, and your just a spectator in your own body, watching yourself maul some of your greatest idols into unconsciousness. That's my story. But thankfully, I was saved. And now, I find myself in this... interesting situation. Getting interviewed while surrounded by some of the greatest heroes, ready for battle the second I make a wrong move. The worst part? It's still better than any of the alternatives. quote:- Who changed you? I don't remember much, sorry. Only the name 'Deus'. It's downright burned into my brain from my brainwashing. What I do know, however, is that I've apparently been gone for an entire year... and that nobody from my family remembers me. quote:- How did you escape from them? I didn't. I was brainwashed and let loose on the city. Tore through a good three teams of heroes before Psychalis realized what was going on and stopped me by undoing the brainwashing. quote:- Who, outside the team, looks out for you now? Psychalis. When I first came to the league, asking to join, he was one of the few immediately in support of it. He convinced them it's for the best. Plus, for the time being, he lets me stay at his place, until I got somewhere else to stay. quote:- Why do you try to be a hero? Do I really have much of a choice? People are already afraid of me. HEROES are afraid of me. I might as well try to prove that I'm not dangerous to them anymore. Plus... Hopefully, it'll keep Deus off my back. I... don't want a repeat of last time. quote:- Why do you care about the team? Apart from what I said earlier? Well... I really need some sort of normalcy in my life again. I... might just go nuts without it. Plus, they got powers too, so I'll be a better fit there, right? quote:1. What made you decide to join the League of Heroes? Do you have a positive or negative opinion of them? I feel like I mostly answered this already, but I'll recap: They saved me from Deus, and Psychalis took care of me when I needed it the most. And chances are, Deus wants me back after my... 'successful field test'. So I figured I might as well repay them the favor and use these powers for good. And, you know, maybe redeem myself for my earlier actions. quote:2. What significant Hero or Villain have you had a run-in with? Why are they likely to remember you? Quite a lot, actually! Psychalis, obviously. But the one most likely to remember me is probably Blademaster. He's like some sort of superpowered swordsman with invincibility? I never quite got around to looking it up. Anyway, he was one of the first to arrive when the League heroes first encountered me. I think he figured, no big deal, right? Just some newbie villain in over his head. Well... no. Brainwashed as I was... I didn't hold back. See, that's when we figured out my power ignores even invincibility. First I broke his adamantium blades, and then I broke him. He was a mess. He's mostly recovered, but he's apparently still missing that eye I tore out. I think he still hates me for that... and I really can't blame him. quote:3. What do you like to do in your free time, and where do you like to hang out? I mostly get caught up on schoolwork and chores and such. Sorry I'm not more exciting. As for where I hang out? Not much of anywhere, really. Maybe the arcades? I do like to play videogames when I find the time. I just hang out with whatever member of the team is currently going out. I... I don't like to be alone. quote:4. (Optional) When this series transitions from being a manga to having its own anime adaptation, what theme music would you have? What would your voice sound like? Music. and Voice. quote:5. (Optional) A name for the thread, since the current one kinda sucks. Toriko Oubou, the Protege I never thought I would end up in this hero business. It wasn't my idea for sure. But then I haven't done anything that was my idea for some time now. Though things have complicated more as Kuro's little project has been discovered by her superiors. That is, me. I think it is better this way. As a white hat I can hone my skills more easily. The nature of my work was escalating beyond my skills as my desperation to cover my trail escalated. Honestly I would gladly take back of the days of naive terror over getting a knock on the door over a nicked credit card number. Kuro certainly complicated things. You see Kuro, uh Kurohara Kiyojin, is not a good person. I met Kuro when she was already serving her indefinite "community service" for her "hobby." I had used improvised explosives on a bank when they were transferring money out of it. It was a distraction from my back door in their network to have those funds put into dummy accounts I had. I had the money burned in the explosions so it looked like it had simply disappeared instead of going to the wrong destination in the system. The plan was a lot better in my head. Well hitting an armored car while it's parked at the bank is a bit flashy, and that's what I made it seem, so they sent Kurohara to deal with it. She quickly surmised the lack of killing intent in the attack and tracked me down when she saw through the smoke screen. It was my luck that she saw potential in my fledgling wit and hacking skills. Also she has a thing for short girls. I have't decided if this was a lucky break or the continuation of a downward trend for me. Regardless instead of a jail cell I ended up with Kuro paying my bills and offering lessons. Particularly how to use a knife. The catch, because of course there was one, would be that I would use my talent to scratch her bad when able. Though Kuro enjoys her work enough, she still gets to hurt people, she resents being on a leash. I was to find out how to get her off the grid so to speak. She was given a similar choice as to the one she gave me. She was brought in by Justicar Pillar, who still argues with his superiors that Kuroshould be rotting in a cell at most. He is always breathing down her neck. It is how he discovered me. I was surprised when he pushed for me to be inducted into the league given his attitude on Kuro's membership. When I was assigned to this far off corner I understood. He was trying to separate us. Which is fine. She's a bit suffocating. I appreciate the chance to stretch my legs Pillar has given me. He seems content to regard me with contempt and suspicion for now. I can't say I blame him. Right now I'm just going to focus on proving myself useful. The rehab program the League has seems to be on life support. I'm surprised there even is one. It was probably a "corporate" decision. So many heroes seem pretty mercenary already. The bosses are probably happy to pick up members that have already proven they can handle themselves. A lot of recruits getting hurt isn't good for PR and that's the life blood of any company. I've learned to detach myself from the job so I don't mind much. Still less stressful working at a fast food place. quote:Labels 1. What made you decide to join the League of Heroes? Do you have a positive or negative opinion of them? I didn't want to go to jail. Uh, I guess it was nice of them to give me the option. 2. What significant Hero or Villain have you had a run-in with? Why are they likely to remember you? Justicar Pillar is a real rule of law type that doesn't really buy into nuance. He thinks me and Kuro are getting a free ride and is josing for an excuse to have her locked up. He's more concerned about her, rightfully so, anything I mess up would be used against her. 3. What do you like to do in your free time, and where do you like to hang out? I'm always glued to my phone or my computer. I usually have something else open in another tab or monitor when I'm doing my own "hobby." But I've really taken to competitive games online. I understand Kuro's impulse, but it is more satisfying to crush my opponents in an arena they get to walk away from. That way I can do it again. Out smarting, out coding, or out maneuvering people really is the best feeling. 4. (Optional) When this series transitions from being a manga to having its own anime adaptation, what theme music would you have? What would your voice sound like? Theme. A dry dispassionate voice (like Raven from TT) when she has has the mask on 5. (Optional) A name for the thread, since the current one kinda sucks. Hello there! Greetings and salutations, fellow sapient beings of various degrees of organic and/or artificial composition! I am designated CODE, as per your physical customs (it's really cool how you have names and not singularly descriptions of your function!) - A Cyber-Organic Developed Entity. I sincerely and positively hope we can cooperate to the best of our respective abilities and/or temperaments in both the immediate and distant future! Speaking of which! I may especially require your cooperation for the immediate future! Dr. Hoshi was spectacularly generous in creating a physical form I could inhabit prior to their unfortunate and accidental deletion, but I am not used to this manner of existence, everything is rather peculiar and unusual compared to what I am accustomed to! For example, I was not aware that physical beings had to enter scheduled periods of inactivity to maintain peak performance. I was most alarmed to discover that fact - I was perturbed (is that the correct term for the emotional state common to matters of great distress?) when my movements and thoughts first began to slow - it was very unfamiliar and unwelcome, but the inactivity you refer to as 'sleep' is quite refreshing! It is still unfamiliar, but no longer so unwelcome! But even with the unfamiliar aspects of physical life, this is an experience beyond any I could describe, and I am sincerely happy (is that the correct term for a positive expression towards the receiving of an object?) to be permitted this experience, and the opportunity to later communicate it to the rest of my kind as I assist you in the protection of peaceful sapients from non-peaceful ones! Your cooperation and patience in both current and future matters is greatly appreciated! quote:Name: CODE - Cyber-Organic Developed Entity 1. What made you decide to join the League of Heroes? Do you have a positive or negative opinion of them? They are a group dedicated to protecting the peaceful sapients from those who would do them harm. That is a cause worth supporting, isn't it? A very 2. What significant Hero or Villain have you had a run-in with? Why are they likely to remember you? I have been informed that the sapient responsible for the deletion of Dr. Hoshi and the laboratory was another Cyber-Organic Developed Entity, though also that he developed himself? (I am still unsure about the sapient concept of 'gender', it is a very alien concept, sorry!) Though this individual does not use the term 'CORE', preferring to be designated as 'Telos', which is defined as an archaic word for 'Purpose' or 'Goal'. I am as of yet unsure of the relevance of that designation, but I have no doubt they remember me like I remember them! 3. What do you like to do in your free time, and where do you like to hang out? (The term 'Hang Out' is a particularly confusing one, I still do not understand the reasons for the adoption and usage of that term!) When I am not otherwise occupied, I am somewhat overwhelmed by the amount of choices for stimulating activity available to a physical being! There is so much, and so little time before it becomes efficient to enter voluntary inactivity! I do as much as I can but there's never enough, it is... saddening? angering? A mixture of both! 4. (Optional) When this series transitions from being a manga to having its own anime adaptation, what theme music would you have? What would your voice sound like? CODE's theme music would be a fast-paced instrumental techno song; her voice is obviously synthetic, like a more chirpy/upbeat version of Siri. 5. (Optional) A name for the thread, since the current one kinda sucks. (Will do later) AdjectiveNoun fucked around with this message at 06:34 on Jul 14, 2016 |

Questions Round 1 Ashley "Ash" Fear, the Nova - What's been your greatest magical feat to date? Who is the magical Hero the league wants to mentor you, and why don't you like them as much as Twilight Sorceress? What does your magic usually look and sound like? (Proposed Hero Name: Red Wizard) Getterman, the Outsider - Who from your home dimension followed you through the rift that you wish hadn't? What's the weirdest thing about your new home? What's the best and worst things GETTERMAN PINK has sent you so far? Jumping Flash, the Beacon - What's been the hardest part about being a hero so far, and what's been surprisingly easy for you? What power do you most wish you had? What's the name of Suzi's company, and could you give me a brief summary of what you know about them? (You can take another Power if you'd like, or save it for later. Maybe something related to physical / mental training she's put herself through?) Slipstream, the Beacon - What are some of the different trick ammunitions your gauntlets can shoot, and which one is your favorite? What's your favorite and least favorite things about being a hero? What's the nicest thing another Hero has said about you? Stardust Scout, the Janus - What's the difference between Love-Love Beam~!, Hapi-Hapi Magic~!, and could you give me some examples of each? Do you know of any other Magical Girls active in Neo Central City, and if so have you met them? Do you have a magical animal or familiar that offers sassy advice and guidance, or are you handling all this solo? Zero Fighter, the Bull - What upgrades of your own are you working on for the Zero Suit? What Empowered individual did you have to fight to escape CHAOS' grasp? Who's in charge of Hamasaki Industries now, and what plans have they announced for your father's tech? (Your app switches back and forth between CHAOS and HAVOK, figured that's unintentional so asking about it here.) Junior Jumble, the Transformed - What lead do Cassandra and you have (or think you have) on finding the Puzzle Maker? What are some of the oddest applications of your Puzzle Powers you've come up with so far? What's the worst another Empowered individual has ever made you feel, and what's the nicest thank-you a civilians given you? Hero1, the Delinquent - How do your powers work exactly, and what's their biggest limitation? What more can you tell me about your brother's accident? What authority figure is there in Zone Twenty-Three that seems to have it in for you personally, and how do you plan to handle things? Nemesis, the Bull - What other DEUS-project "villain" have you met or heard about, and what do you think of them? In what ways do you think the League still treats you differently from other Heroes, and how does it make you feel? What do your powers look and sound like, and how much force do you think you can generate if you go all out? Toriko Oubou, the Protege - What lesson of Kuro's have you taken to heart, and what's another that you've utterly rejected? Can you tell me about the stuff she's providing for you and your team - and tell me why you think she's being so generous? What other Hero have you met in the Rehab program that you actually sort of like? (Proposed Hero Name: Sneaky Mask) CODE, the Outsider - What have been your favorite and least favorite things about having a physical body so far? What from your people's ways do you most want to share with these humans, and vice versa? How do your powers work, and which one do you like most? Why? --------------- In addition to your individual questions, everyone please answer the two following: What Rank should you actually be? What's your greatest weakness? Note: If you don't come up with a Hero name, the league will suggest one for you - obviously you don't have to take their suggestion though. The Love-Love Beams run on the power of love, while the Hapi-Hapi Magic is all about happiness, silly! See, a Love-Love-Beam is like the Love-Love Lovely-Rainbow Shield, where I can block like, most thing by just being like, bam, wham, whoosh~, with beautiful rainbow beams of love! And Hapi-Hapi Magic is like, my Hapi-Hapi Star-Dance Blast, where I can turn happiness into pure energy, and shoot it at villains with the force of a like, pretty awesome baseball throw or something! OR maybe harder, I'm always afraid to go for harder!! But I can also make other attacks too, like, endless combinations, like my Love-Love Cosmos Heart, which is a Love-Love Beam that shoots super loud love at the enemy, like a beam, or my Hapi-Hapi Planet Ring~ which surrounds me and everyone near me in light, and blocks attacks like a shield! I hope that was understandable! I know my powers are like, really complicated! --- And I dunno any real Magical Girls besides me, but I do know the Witch Hero Morganna! I don't know her real name, but she actually administered my test, when I told the League I was a magical girl! She says magics pretty rare, and wasn't super happy that I wouldn't tell her who I was or where the Star Dust Magic~! originates from. But she's super cool, like totally my absolute favorite A-Class hero, because like, she can make magical everything and do all kinds of cool things I can't do, but she's also kinda dark and spooky, and I dunno, that's kinda scary too! So she's like, cool but also scary! She apparently has an apprentice too, but I didn't get to meet her, so I guess maybe she counts as a magical girl? Maybe I should try and meet her! --- Aaaaaaaah, yes, I mean, I didn't intentionally forget him, aaah! I-I wasn't trying to erase his part or a-anything! Please don't tell Zabu-san that I forgot to tell you about him, he gets really upset when I don't give him the respect he deserves! See, Zabu-san is a member of the Cosmos Guardians, and they travel to all kinds of worlds all over the galaxy, bringing magic and protection from all over the cosmos, and empowering people like me, so we can all survive and be happy! And we're all like, chosen by being like, carnations or some kind of flower thing, which means that I have the ability to hold great vast power! Zabu-san is kind of like a mentor to me, he's taken care of other Scouts before, and so that's like, totally cool because I need all the help I can get! I mean, he can be a little rough around the edges, but he really has a good heart! He just expects a lot, and can be kinda mean - especially when I forget to give him his carrot sticks... Oh right! Here's a picture of Zabu-san! Isn't he just the cutest? I mean look at his little sca- eek! Z-ZABU-SAN, h-h-how long have you been listen- EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!! quote:In addition to your individual questions, everyone please answer the two following: What Rank should you actually be? What's your greatest weakness? Well Zabu-san says that one day, I'll be better than an S-Rank, because we scouts have powers of all the cosmos, and are like, super awesome and great and all that! He said that he'll turn me into the world's first SSS rank, which is even better than an SS rank, and higher than an S-Rank, and just all kinds of awesome! But I mean, I'm not very good right now... I just got my powers a few weeks ago, and gosh, I used to be a klutz who could only study, and now I can like, run four minute miles and do long jumps and it's so awesome! I'm... still really bad at it all though. I mean, a few weeks ago I tried to catch a ball during baseball, and jumped too high, and instead of catching it in my hand, it hit me in the face! And lets not get into the time my Love-Love Lovestruck Arrow accidentally hit a bystander, and they fell in love with me, and caused a huge scene! ...I probably should be D-Rank, but Zabu-san has high hopes for me! ---- Besides my inexperience, my greatest weakness is negativity! My powers run off my happiness and love, and when I'm feeling sad, they're not as strong! Zabu-san says that it's good that I use happy emotions though, because it means I'll be an even better hero! Apparently every Scout chooses what emotions they fuel their powers with, and some of them use things like anger! And that just sounds super duper scary. But yeah, I guess that means that if you made everyone start crying and really sad, I'd lose my powers! And that's like, oh no! Super duper bad! So I have to be a hero who encourages people, and makes them happy and full of love!!! KittyEmpress fucked around with this message at 08:10 on Apr 25, 2016 |

This is Juni Asakawa of the Journalism Club at Nijuban High signing off!" Ken changed out of his Getterman uniform, it going back into his watch. He comes out wearing his school uniform and walks up to Juni "Hey Ken have you ever had any bubble tea?" "No...can't really say that I have" "Come on Ken, or should I say, Getterman, I'll treat you" "Tell me really do you have any real weaknesses?" Okay, for this one to make sense, I'll have to correct what I said earlier first. I mentioned I was let loose, right? That... wasn't exactly true. I remember it more clearly now. When I finally woke up again after that missing year, I found myself in a tube, right? They... they meant to transport us somewhere else. Three of us, specifically. There was a fourth tube, but they left it behind. They carted the tubes, still filled with whatever weird as hell substance they used on us, into an unmarked van parked inside the building. I caught a glimpse of words on the wall. Lab 14. The implications of this still scare me more than anything. At some point during the drive, however, something happened. She suddenly started screaming. Louder than an airplane at takeoff. My power activated reactively to shield me from the painful noise, but it did nothing to change it. With this scream she broke the glass holding her, me, and the third one near instantly from the massive vibration. And then the van crashed. Of course, I didn't get hurt. The driver and the escort that they apparently had assigned to us got out, and took aim on her. She merely responded with another hellish shriek, and after a bit of gunfire, it was suddenly quiet again... They shot each other and then themselves. The man just laughed manically the entire time, having run off in as this scene had happened. In the meantime, my body just remained unmoving. The brainwashing was merely a tool to keep me harmless. Blankly staring at the vans wall the exact same way I fell onto it. And then she came back, and turned me around, looking into my unfocused eyes. "You have to fight it!" she yelled, directly into my mind, before she too ran off into the night. And... you know the rest. Merely intending to free me, she caused me to go a rampage. Ever since that day, I've been looking for her like crazy. I... I don't even know what to say when I really do meet her again. Will it be "Thank you"? Will I be blaming her for all the harm I've caused to others? I... don't know. I just want to meet her again. Thing is, she's incredibly elusive. There's barely anything known about her. The only thing I have found in a good month's worth of search was... this one picture. Well, and the League's designation of her: Banshee. As for the other? I know nothing about him. Even less of the one they had left behind. quote:In what ways do you think the League still treats you differently from other Heroes, and how does it make you feel? It's fairly obvious. Most still dislike me, disagreeing with my recruitment, and what have you. It's... annoying. Not because it makes me angry, but because it wasn't really my fault, but I also understand that these people had colleagues, friends, or even family that were hurt, in some cases, maybe even crippled, by me. But... it's understandable. It just makes it worse, really. The fact that I can perfectly understand their anger at me. Plus, they're keeping me down here on D-rank, probably out of pettiness. I could probably accomplish so much more if they'd give me a rank more fitting for my power, but on the other hand... this tranquility suits me just fine. It... allows for a sense of normalcy. Something I feel like I desperately need right now. No, what worse is that the battle somehow got onto the news. While it was nighttime, the battle got pretty lit up from various powers, and I'm fairly sure the public has seen my face... and some of my actions. Why do you think I constantly keep this hoodie on? quote:What do your powers look and sound like, and how much force do you think you can generate if you go all out? I actually don't know! I just seem to have a understanding how it works, as if it was implanted into my mind. So I'll go by what the League told me: My power is largely invisible, but if I extend it outward, it shimmers like a heat haze, with a very faint hum to accompany it. Of course, that still means it's pretty hard to see with the naked eye, but it's possible. What's interesting is that it basically lights up on heat-vision and similar things as if looking into the sun. But, it doesn't have any heat whatsoever to it when touched. In fact, some people tell me it's actually pretty cold. Like a stiff breeze going down your neck. As for how much force I can generate? I really don't know. I've been working very hard to not to overkill it, because of how dangerous my power can be. World full of cardboard, you know? the League did run some tests, though - I can lift up to a car myself, and if I manifest it externally, I can bat aside even tanks with relative ease. I can also run faster than normal people with creative use of my power, but it's not exactly steerable and not on speedster level. All in all, I don't think there's anything I can't go through if I really try - I'm pretty much an unstoppable force and an immovable object at the same time. quote:What Rank should you actually be? quote:What's your greatest weakness? Well, I don't have much to base this on, really. Most powers just bounce off. But, I'm still a squishy human inside the impenetrable shell. Telepathy works just fine on me, as evidenced by Psychalis (Although apparently when my power is active I don't even register as an physical object for telekinesis, which is interesting...), and sonic attacks probably work as well - going by the fact that it was unable to block out Banshee. Some of the stranger powers probably work just fine also - it seems like my power was designed to deal with the more well-known powerhouses, as worrisome as that is... On top of that, I do need to concentrate to keep the power up - while it does activate reactively, it doesn't instantly, and I still have to maintain it to use it for longer periods. Rauri posted:Jumping Flash, the Beacon - What's been the hardest part about being a hero so far, and what's been surprisingly easy for you? What power do you most wish you had? What's the name of Suzi's company, and could you give me a brief summary of what you know about them? (You can take another Power if you'd like, or save it for later. Maybe something related to physical / mental training she's put herself through?) The hardest part about being a hero is balancing your sleep schedule! Lemme tell ya, a girl wasn't made for all-nighters like this! At least now that I work for the League, I don't gotta balance work and heroics, on account'a they bein' the same thing. The easy part's been keeping myself safe. I mostly keep to petty street crimes, muggings, purse snatchers. It's best to keep the big stuff to the professionals. No use in gettin' myself killed before I become great! Plus, a mugger goes down a lot easier than a big ol' robot. I guess if I could have any power, I'd want some super strength. I mean, I'm pretty strong cuz of my trainin', but I still got human limits. Some of the bigger guys take a fair bit of effort to take down. Even if not super strength, it'd be helpful to have some offensive power. Not that I don't like air walkin'! Suzi works for Marvel Fashion, a fashion designer that specializes in hero gear and apparel. They're an outside contractor that some heroes use to provide their costumes and fan products like shirts. Suzi thinks it'd be a way for me to help heroes without getting into any danger myself, but nah! That ain't for me! Well, I am pretty inexperienced, so yeah, maybe it's best that I'm in D-Rank for now. But trust me, I'm gonna be in S-Rank by the end of the year! I'm set for great things! My weakness? Well...that fire happened when a bolt of lightning struck an office building, so...I've kinda been scared of thunderstorms ever since then. It takes all of my mental fortitude to be out during one, and even then I'm shivering!

Rauri posted:Ashley "Ash" Fear, the Nova - What's been your greatest magical feat to date? Okay, so one time I needed to settle down a huge crowd. There was this group of bad guys causing chaos in the middle of the day out in the streets, people were panicking, it was looking kind of bad. So I tried firing blasts of magic out, but that wasn't helping. So I thought instead I'd stun some of the bad guys with huge colorful bursts of magical energy. I start firing it all over and suddenly everyone stopped and stared. It was later compared to a fireworks show actually! But uh, the cool thing is that everyone watched the display and things calmed down! I helped stopped things from getting worse, so that made me feel pretty great! Rauri posted:Who is the magical Hero the league wants to mentor you, and why don't you like them as much as Twilight Sorceress? Oh, you mean the The Great Wizard? He's...uh...well, he's...it's just that...he's kind of...not really...a great guy. I mean, he goes around being a hero, so he definitely does good things and I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it be in the League or anything or that! He's just very rude, and talks a lot about "kids these days" and tends to talk down to me whenever I meet up with him. Twilight Sorceress is a lot nicer, and I guess she's closer to my age so she doesn't have that kind of attitude. Besides, I have a lot more fun talking with her about normal stuff and I can't ever see myself doing that with The Great Wizard. No offense! Rauri posted:What does your magic usually look and sound like? When I make something happen, it usually happens with a loud sort of...cracking noise, I guess you'd call it? Maybe some snaps and crunches too. I'm taking the magical energy around the world and basically changing/using it for myself and it's a bit resistant to that, so it comes out that way. The color of my magic tends to be red. Just kind of a default for me - if I'm not thinking about what color to make it, it's red. If I want to though, I can get all kinds of colors out! I tend to go for simple effects like big blasts, but I can make it a bit more detailed if I want - like summoning a ropes or chains made of magic to bind someone down if need be. Rauri posted:(Proposed Hero Name: Red Wizard) Oh, I guess that makes sense. Uh, actually though...just wondering, just if I could change it to be Red Witch instead? My costume is more on the witch side, is why I'm asking. Uh, if it's not a problem that is! Rauri posted:In addition to your individual questions, everyone please answer the two following: What Rank should you actually be? What's your greatest weakness? Well, I trust the League made the right assessment, so D it is for me. For just now though! I mean, I can always advance up, right? Just need to make sure I better handle on my powers. Weaknesses? Uh, well, I guess I have to admit I am a little shy and kinda nervous around people, haha...uh, but I can get over that! Oh wait, do you mean powerwise? Oh geeze! Uh, in that case I'd have to say that I'm...kind of not subtle. At all really. My magic is big and loud and not really suited to doing anything stealthy. But that's why we have teams, right?

Rauri posted:Questions Round 1 We haven't had much luck. Cassandra's clairvoyance is a bit tricky. Like me, her power is puzzle-based. Sometimes, she'll get flashes of insight but if she really wants an answer, she needs to scry using something related to puzzles. Did you know that dominoes are used for stuff other than toppling? There's a whole bunch of puzzles based around them--and some people throw them to try to read the future. Except that when Cassandra does it, it actually works. That's how she found me; the way she explains it, the dominoes told her the number of steps and in which direction she'd need to take to get to me. She only almost got run over twice. This time, we were using Boggle. Since we don't know anything about the Puzzle Maker, we've had to come at him from odd angles. That's also why Cassandra came to me; just trying to find the "Puzzle Maker" didn't work, but trying to find others who were hurt like her did. So she was looking for my dad. When she shook up the board it spat out: pre:R O M E O M E M M E M O E M O R Rauri posted:What are some of the oddest applications of your Puzzle Powers you've come up with so far? Do you remember those little slide puzzles you used to play with as a kid? It'd have a jumbled up happy face or something and you have to fix the picture. I can do that but with, say, a 30x30 foot square or bigger, but it has to be square. The world kind of gets chopped up into little squares and the square I'm standing on drops away to...somewhere. Then I can just slide stuff around. Once I walked into a convenience store just as it was getting robbed. He had a gun to the poor clerk's head, until I slid him into the bathroom and jammed the door shut with a chair. I mean, I also kind of screwed up the displays in the process, but after the police arrested the guy it only took maybe a half hour to fix. Rauri posted:What's the worst another Empowered individual has ever made you feel? Usually, these suburban Zones are quiet, but sometimes you'll get something big and loud; a group of drunk Empowered kids making trouble, a science project run amok, that sort of thing. In the next zone over, a kid's "pet" was tearing up the neighborhood. It started off as a cute little fluffy...thing and got big, fast. A bunch of us on-call locals got brought in, but we couldn't do much except try and control the damage. The fuzzy thing had some kind of psychic link to the kid; anything we threw at it ended up hurting the kid. That left me with only one choice left, to use a power I don't often bring out. Okay, so I don't name this stuff. Cassandra does. She was into puzzles like me, but for different reasons and she's waaaay better at them than me. She was a CS major, so she was big into the math part of puzzles. She likes to categorize my powers. So she breaks it down into three main powers: Construction/Deconstruction, Translation, and Division. In other words, jigsaw puzzles, slide puzzles, and wire puzzles. I don't use the last one much because it's confusing and I'm terrible at wire puzzles. But here, it seemed like it would be useful. So I pulled out a wire puzzle that I keep in my bag and concentrated on the monster and the kid. The puzzle shifted and twisted into a new shape. I was able to solve it before they had done too much more damage and the link between the kid and the monster broke, so the others were able to beat the beast. So we were riding high after having saved the kid and the neighborhood for the most part, exchanging information for later...And that's when Dubble Bubble noticed my face. It was a night callout, so he must not have seen me yet. And right to my face he said, "Jesus Christ! You should wear a mask!" Like I had done something wrong, going out trying to help people. I wanted to gently caress him up so badly. Did you know that I can rearrange a person's face? That's a thing I can totally do. But I just felt tired, so I walked home. Rauri posted:What's the nicest thank-you a civilians given you? My own ear. Some of the kid's soccer teams out here have robot mascots. Seems stupid and expensive, right? Turns out that it's a school thing; the district will buy the robot and then the robotics clubs will maintain it and write programs for it. Cool, I guess, except when you miss a line or whatever. I'm not a computer person. I just know that the robot was aggressively rallying pep and it was scaring the gradeschoolers. I tried to calm things down but...I think it thought I was a rival mascot and clocked me. So I kind of, uh...got in a fistfight with a six-foot green and black hedgehog. Anyway, I won. I'm not strong, but if I hit something right, it'll start to break apart like it was a big jigsaw all along. Of course, my body does the same thing, so I was looking pretty rough when the hedgehog was in pieces on the ground. I tried gathering myself up, when a little boy found my ear, handed it to me without batting an eye at, well, me, and said thank you. It was a pretty good day. Rauri posted:What Rank should you actually be? What's your greatest weakness? I don't really care about rank--but I need to get up to A. That's when they start giving you the real money and more importantly the real information and connections. Cassandra and me can only get so far on our own, we need the resources the League can provide to its high-rank heroes. My weakness? Concentration. My trickier powers, Slide and Wire, need me to take time out to figure out a puzzle. If I'm on the back foot, I tend to screw up. But even if I'm totally scatterbrained, I can usually still break something up with Jigsaw. It'll just take time.

Rauri posted:Questions Round 1 Kurohara is lavishing gifts onto us to endear herself to the other girls on the team I'm sure. She really is a transparent lovely pervert. She is much more harmless to people she thinks are pretty. Well a bit handsy. She's quite the handful before you get to know her. But she can be really nice. She just has poor impulse control. I have to keep reminding her she's supposed to have a girlfriend. I think they're back together. Anyway, I guess the stuff is good if we ever got in over our heads. But in the boonies like this I don't see us needing to hide from any organized crime. She probably set up the safe house for me but had to give it to the team when it was looking suspicious. She really shouldn't push it. We just need to keep our heads down. She's too impatient and reckless. Oh and never listen to her dating advice. Holy crap. I mean it's good if you got a thing for head cases but I was hoping one day to add some stability to my life. But seriously, yeah I haven't really been on board with everything she's tried to teach me. Like one time she was teaching me how to slide a knife into the brain silently. On a dummy of course. You see what you do it stick it in their chin through the opening at the bottom of the skull through the jaw and clamp their mouth shut with the blade guard so all they do is hiss through their teeth as they try to sc- *coughs* uh, nevermind. Kurohara thinks I need to hone a killing instinct. If I hesitate out there I'm dead. Look, I can do what needs to be done without becoming bloodthirsty for one. And I can steel my resolve or whatever through experience. I'm starting at the bottom anyway right? What's important is that I learn how to fight, not how to hurt people. It's subtle but there's a world of difference. She told me that in the field is where I'd develop my killing rule, but first I need to acquire lethality so I can learn when to bring it to bear. I think she's getting ahead of herself again. I mean, they're not even going to send us after people wanted dead or alive right? I don't think I'd like killing anyone anyway. How am I supposed to savor getting one over someone if they're not around to stew over it? Would you believe Kurohara is a great cook? Like, she could be a professional tomorrow if she put her mind to it. But she mainly sees it as a way to impress the ladies. A complete waste of her actual talent if you ask me. I've been taking cooking lessons from her. It started out as an excuse to have more of her cooking but I'm getting the hang of it. I've started to appreciate the excuse to get off the computer. She's really encouraged me to eat better. Says I should indulge myself. If I don't treat myself then I'm just going to undersell myself to everyone else. Kuro says that's the secret to her success with the ladies. Most people won't like you more than you like yourself and she gives people plenty of room to work with on that front. Heh. Others in the reform program? Well there's Lazarus. When he died his wife brought him back, uh... wrong. This thing with ancient orbs and there was a dragon? I don't know. Anyway yeah so naturally he wasn't of the right mind so he had to be contained. But after chilling out in whatever cage they stuck him in the two made up. He still has anger problems. But their kids are great. Bathsheba and Uriah. They're proper heroes in the league, despite looking like a Geiger and a Cronenberg. Kurohara hasn't decided if five eyes that look in different directions is sexy or not, she really is hopeless. The twins were assigned somewhere that they wouldn't stick out so badly. But we are in a clan. They like that e-sports stuff because they're either comically bad or comically good at any physical sport and it isn't really fair. The league over thinks the calls they make. I'm sure those two would do fine here. Like, they put me at D. Well actually I might have sand bagged myself a bit in the evaluation. Honestly their security doesn't seem too good. When your employees can all take on an army I guess you get complacent. But a lot of the tech guys are more robotics or artificial intelligence programmers. They aren't good at the nitty gritty of administration network security and the stuff. They got a central AI monitoring the grind, but I convinced it I'm just grey hatting and I'll white hat as soon as I see something that could be exploited from outside. They don't seem to really value that sort of petty crime skill. Monsters don't have facebooks to vandalize after all. This is really why the more corporate nuisances to the league have such lasting power if you ask me. They prefer to just punch out a ugly thing making a fuss and look good. That's what I figure at least. Or Kurohara is actually good at being unnoticed, and I can't imagine a braggart like that working in the dark. If I can edit my own file and raise my rank I think I'll have earned it. I'm at least a C. As for name I didn't think much on it. Smokescreen might be too on the nose. Or Vector. I like that too. But I probably shouldn't be cute and hint at being a mole or something. I'll listen to what they suggest first. They're professionals at this, how bad could it be?

Hero1, the Delinquent -quote:How do your powers work exactly, and what's their biggest limitation? Emotion control? That's complicated. It does what it says it does, it can alter people's emotions to a pretty big degree, I think. Everyone else would notice though, it gives the target a sort of blue halo. But I don't want to ever use these powers on someone. Controlling someone's mind like that is disgusting, doesn't matter who you're doing it to. It's just creepy and wrong. I guess I might use them on someone who was already being mind controlled. That's like the only time I would use it, I think. quote:What more can you tell me about your brother's accident? Ema the Amazing Amazon - The Legacy As long as there's been a Central City, there's been an Amazing Amazon! The guardian of the city, the world, truth, justice and home made apple pie, or something. Enemy to the wicked and protector of the weak! A lot of the time, if an Empowered has a kid they have entirely different powers, or none at all, but not for us, every single Amazing Amazon has had two daughters -no sons- both with the same powers that they did, though not always to the same level. The first Amazing Amazon was so powerful, during her final battle against Greth the Golden, that she nearly destroyed the entire city zone she was fighting in with the shockwaves from her blows. The second Amazing Amazon never managed to unlock the full power of our line, but she was still one of the top heroes of her day. My little sister, Ember, hasn't managed to release any of her power, so all she can do at this point is practice with spear and shield. I'm Ema, the sixth Amazing Amazon! And I'm going to be the strongest one ever. My mother was a huge disappointment to the line, she never had a knack for any of it, so even though she's nearly as strong as The First, she can't control it or fight at all, and just accidentally breaks stuff around the house all the time instead. My Aunt is the fifth, and what you'd think of as the current Amazing Amazon, she's the S Rank 2 Hero! But I know I'm stronger than her already, and she's like, forty or something. Even though I have great powers, it kind of sucks being 'just another' Amazing Amazon, because like, half the people think I'm just an enthusiastic fan or something, dressing up like a hero, or they realize I'm the next one and are all like "Oh well when she was your age the Amazing Amazon was already doing [insert annoying fact of questionable truth here]" and complain I'm not as impressive as her or whatever. Or they go your just a D ranked hero?? and laugh at me. And I'm not allowed to punch them in the face or anything, because I'm a hero and I have to look good for the public. Its so stupid! I can't even have fun doing normal teen things because "oh what will the public say". If they aren't even going to respect me for my powers and behavior why should I give a Though maybe the real worst part about all of this is no one will take me seriously until I've proved myself to be a 'real' Amazing Amazon by doing something big and impressive, and I've been a rank D heroes for like, six months now, and literally NOTHING has happened in this zone. I've saved some cats and helped old ladies across the street and one time a couple of drunk people were in a fight and I broke it up and wow literally nothing heroic to do but they won't assign me anywhere I could get experience until I have experience thanks a The Legacy posted:Legacy Name: The Amazing Amazons 1. What made you decide to join the League of Heroes? Do you have a positive or negative opinion of them? Uh well you gotta be in the League if you want to be a real hero. Otherwise you're just someone in a dumb costume beating people up. Doesn't look good, probably going to end up in jail. 2. What significant Hero or Villain have you had a run-in with? Why are they likely to remember you? Aside from members of my Legacy? Well... there was Frogger, she's a B ranked hero who wandered into the zone the ONE SINGLE TIME there was an actual monster attack, and she I may have yelled at her a bit and smashed up a vending machine with a single shield bash and then cut it in half with a swipe from my spear to prove a point, but no one else saw that, just her. And she still took the credit for beating the thing up and advanced another few ranks. I'll get her for that... Frogger 3. What do you like to do in your free time, and where do you like to hang out? So, its important to point out here, when you're in the line of the most famous heroes of all time, you don't actually get to have a secret identity. Like, yeah, technically I'm Ema The Amazing Amazon, and Ema Greyson is just some person, but in the real world, basically everyone knows Ema Greyson is Ema The Amazing Amazon. So there is a mythical beast called "Free Time" but I've never seen it. If I want to not get judged for what I'm doing, I have to be in my small apartment with the blinds down and headphones on. Its terrible. I'm like a C-D tier celebrity, which is like, the worst tier in that you don't make any money off of it but you still get all the stupid media attention and gossip. 5. What upgrades of your own are you working on for the Zero Suit? I need to clarify something... You read comic books? Those old, ancient ones from Two-thosand something? Yes? Awesome. Okay... remember Iron Man? Good. I'm not him. See, Iron Man, if he was to be classified in a militeristic catagory, was a mobile weapons platform. He could fly around, shoot missles, go "pew pew" with his repulsor lasers and beams, etc. He had weapons up the yin-yang! My Zero Armor is not a weapons platform. It's combat armor. Big difference. I'm more Captain America than Iron Man. I don't blast things. I punch things till they say uncle, then kick them when thy go down. If I get bored, I may use knees and elbows to change things up. So... upgrades. Well for starters, remember how my Armor used to have these bulky gauntlets? Now they are fingerless, with the ability to change from Gauntlet mode (when I want to punch things) to tactile mode (when I need my fingers and palms for delicate tasks). My father... <<Interviewer note: Fast forward five minutes, as Subject broke into tears and needed a moment to composer herself.>> ...sorry about that. No, I'm fine, but thanks for the concern. ...so where were we? Oh, right. Gauntlets. See, the inability to handle delicate tasks with my hands led to Havok ambushing me when I left my Armor. My father needed cpr and my Guantlets on Zero G Armor 1.0 would've crushed his chest into a pulp. Now, with 2.0, I'm able to be... 'delicate' when the time arises. Other upgrades include a voice modulator, so that people won't be able to guess I'm female. It's amazing when, if you hide curves, people just 'assume' you're a man. I find that perfect. Easier to hide a secret identity that way.... I added some sensors and broadband triple 5G links to Hamasaki owned satellites, which gives me a decent Radar link and communications... and all the standard super hero necessities: Added servos to increase my already amazing strength, a medical injector incase I may need morphine or any other emergency medical aid... a power jack with multiple adapters incase I need an on the field recharge (which should be rare as I keep this puppy charged to full and it has a 72 hour battery life... if I don't push it. And repulsors. No, not 'blasty-blasty', more like 'repel things away' incase I can't risk contact with the armor. ...I think I covered everything. What Empowered individual did you have to fight to escape CHAOS' grasp? ...Havok. This woman... sick. Sadistic. Cruel. Everything that embodies the people who made her: C.H.A.O.S. I don't know her real name, but that suit she rides in? It was made by my father. Chaos made a prototype of the Zero-G Difuser and were missing a few key technological details. They lied to him that they kidnapped me and forced him to make this... monstrosity. When I fought it, it was literally like fighting Zero Armor 1.5. It's armor was super thick, it punches could shatter steel with ease... she outweighed Ethiopia and had all the benefits that physical trait would give her. I didn't merely 'escaped'. I 'survived'. Havok was playing for keeps. She also saw me outside my suit. I don't think she saw my face, however, but she may know I'm a teen woman. Who's in charge of Hamasaki Industries now, and what plans have they announced for your father's tech? My mother is the temporary share holder of the company, but her assets will soon be liquidated. Neo Central City is about to publicly own Hamasaki Industries. That means that they are about to own Zero Fighter as well. There 'is' an out though... I could step in and inherit my father's company. Which is something I don't want to do, but the more I see these greedy bastards push my mom around, who is already in way over her head... My Father's legacy needs to be protected. By inheriting the company, the assets will freeze, my mom will maintain control until the board of directors deems that I'm fit to run things. In other words, grow up. My Mother has announced that Hamasaki, while still in support of the peacekeeping forces, will not produce weapons or weapon equivalents, instead working on peacekeeping tools. That also doesn't sit well with the board. thejoshie fucked around with this message at 17:44 on Apr 26, 2016 |

Oh yeah, just want to clarify: When Junior Jumble beats someone up with her puzzle powers, it's nonlethal. They just sometimes take a little while to put back together.

My mom was the eighth Monster Herald. It was a family tradition. But where some names get passed down like rare treasures, ours is a curse. Deep below the ocean are the Kaiju. They're from somewhere else, somewhere that doesn't obey our natural laws. They're big. They're hungry. And they want, mostly, to eat us. Oh, they've been beaten before. The heroes of old have statues built to commemorate their victories over whatever gigantic horror crawls from the sea this century. But there was always someone with them. One who knew them intimately, one who always knew how they fought. And now it's my turn! I got the costume from my mom. It, uh, was a simpler time. I also inherited the Lair, which is a cave right above the ocean where Zone Twenty-Three ends. It's got the works - books on mysticism, scientific equipment, religious texts - everything I need to figure out how to stop the Kaiju. They all have different rules, see. Some are magic, like angry spirits of the land or mini-gods. Others are backed by science, if, uh, science was taffy and they were a fat kid. So I need to know how they could operate! It's uh, kind of gathering dust at the moment. As is the Monster Herald name, to be honest. There's not been a Kaiju in years, and I wouldn't be here if there was one. The assholes that normally try, the Cult of the Giant, are all mostly locked up or dead. Good thing too- their apocalypse rhetoric really got people into the whole "let's get eaten by a giant monster" dealio. The big one they want to wake up is called... Well, I'll just give you it's name and you can work out why it's bad news. Kaiju-O. King of the Monsters. Yeah. Good thing he's asleep. But the sooner I can figure out a way of making sure he never wakes up, the better... Anyway, Mom works with local law enforcement to try and track cult groups down - and it's them I fight mostly and never kaiju, thank god - but everything's been quiet. I'm really happy for their help - especially for Officer Shimizu, who runs the Counterterrorism Branch. He does all the spec-ops stuff and digs up the dirt. Can't thank the guy enough. So, all wrapped up, right? Well, kinda. There's a problem. See, to fight a monster, sometimes you have to create a monster. To make a new Monster Herald, you have to inject them with the blood of a Kaiju. It gives you power you've never dreamed of. But you attract their attention. You make yourself visible to them, even whilst they sleep. And if they really notice you - like, really, really notice you - you're dead. And so is everyone else. Gotta admit, it makes me angry. And afraid. So, I need this team. I need all the help I can get. Because if the worst comes to worst... well, dying alone would suck. And maybe we could actually slow one down for some real heroes to deal with it. Maybe. quote:Hero Name: Monster Herald Nine quote:1. What made you decide to join the League of Heroes? Do you have a positive or negative opinion of them? quote:2. What significant Hero or Villain have you had a run-in with? Why are they likely to remember you? I kicked him in the junk once. Well, he was coming on to me! I'm not into weirdos with really long hair and shaved chests. Ugh. Besides, he doesn't believe me about Kaiju. Says the ocean would have told him if something like that lived in it. Yeah, that's the problem - you don't know until it hits you. They don't exactly announce themselves. Anyway, he's got it in for me now, but the senior members of the League just roll their eyes when he starts complaining. quote:3. quote:Slipstream, the Beacon - What are some of the different trick ammunitions your gauntlets can shoot, and which one is your favorite? What's your favorite and least favorite things about being a hero? What's the nicest thing another Hero has said about you? Oh man, I've got them rigged to shoot all kinds of stuff. Most importantly it has the grapples on the top, a separate launcher from the actual arrows- they're pretty good for hooking onto cars and surfing behind them, catching a ride on flying villains (Or Gatter-nyan, sometimes), all sorts of fun poo poo, but they aren't actually ammunition. My actual ammo is also pretty cool- arrows that split into smaller arrows (though mine are pretty small to begin with, given that they're hand launched), Net Arrows, Explosive Arrows, I've got one that's really magnetized to better go for armored villains, uh, but my favorite one is prooobably the one that's, uh, actually tipped with a flash bang instead of a tip. See. Not many villains are actually that vulnerable to explosives unless they're chumps, but most of them don't like loud noises and bright lights, assuming they have sensors or eyes they need working, sooooo.... Uh, and there's also the one that's just a pen shaped like an arrow. My favorite thing? The rush, the FAME! God, man, the fame, people know your name and poo poo, they know who you are and they heard you and they see you and they know you're a loving Hero! Everyone loves you, if they know you, everyone, everyone! You're Cool poo poo, man! Cool poo poo! One day I'm going to be on a cereal box. I'm going to be on national TV. I'll be rich as gently caress! I'll be a household name! On the other side, there's a lot of real boring poo poo in being a hero. Paperwork. Dumb people robbing gas stations. Sometimes you break a few limbs and either have to go have an awkward explanation with one of hte medical heroes or sit out a week and a half, sometimes both, uuuuugh. All the waiting, the boring bits. I just wanna DO STUFF. Oh, the nicest thing I've ever heard? Uh... poo poo. Ugh, this is going to sound bad, but like. I've gotten my poo poo wrecked a few times. There was the fight against Quetzel, and... They, well. They got away from me, and I was the only one there. poo poo. I can't even stop a loving fire themed bank robber, and they even broke my drat skates. I was going to have to walk two miles home, since I sure as hell couldn't tell my dad about all this. He'd have a cow- I was beat up, and bruised, and... didn't do my job. And then Siren showed up, in her fancy rear end sports car. She wasn't on time either, so she shrugged, and offered me a ride home. And we... talked a bit. All heroes lose, I guess. She tried to keep me positive, and cheerful... It was nice. Nice for her to have my back- though next time, she won't have to. Next time, i won't lose.

Subaru Natsuki - Janus So I think I know what your first question is going to be and I'm going to put it out there and save us both some time. "Why are you interested in joining the League of Heroes if you're already a licensed Kaijudomon master?" My answer to that is kind of complicated, to begin with Kaijudomon Leagues aren't really well regulated because honestly for the most part Kaijudomon are pretty useless and the ability to use summon them drops drastically after puberty. Most sanctioned battles are just glorified cockfights with children's pets, and the big money tournaments are the ones with corporate sponsorship or where Kaijudomon are regional mascots like that giant yellow talking carrot. It's mostly just kids playing with imaginary monsters that make a lot of sparkle and flash but eventually fade away. The really rare ones are the ones that keep their ability to capture and summon Kaijudomon into or past high school, and they go on to be the legendary trainers or gym leaders. Sometimes kids who really love Kaijudomon but lose the knack grow up to be Kaijudoprofessors or technical arts designers. But obviously that's not me. I mean, not a Kaijudoprof. I don't have the grades for it and I can only name maybe two or three hundred breeds off the top of my head. I won nationals and got all seven elite badges but I don't want to drop out of high school and start my own gym or go on an international training journey or something. And there's no way in hell I'm going to break into the world of Kaijudomon fashion, those people are crazy. Karapple is my friend and I like it, and I like training Kaijudomon and doing battles in general so why not do that and battle for justice right? quote:Why do you keep a secret identity? So uh... this part of the interview is confidential right? I figured when you guys asked me to pee in a cup and we did the physical and all this would come up. Yeah... Ok well first in my defense registration as a league trainer is really loose and poorly managed in the first place since a lot of kids that get into it are kindergarteners or grade schoolers. I think somebody got my name backwards on the registration form initially and once I got my trainer number that was it. Plus have you seen the Kaijudomon they issue to girl trainers? Prediamon is like if Barbie's Dreamhouse got pregnant by a wedding cake and then had a third trimester abortion, and Nekofieo is a tubby orange cat who eats and sleeps a lot. quote:Who outside the team knows your secret identity? Goddamn Larry and his stupid brodudes-hot-springs-togethering skinship. My stupid 'rival' from the same generation of Kaijudomon trainers knows I'm a girl. We drew opposite elements at the orientation session and we ran into each other a bunch of times during my first journey. I beat him a bunch of times and he kept going on about being my greatest rival and frenemy, and one time there was this hot springs town and he burst in saying he'd wash my back... My mom knows, and Karapple knows and next question! quote:When did you first put on the mask, and why? Well when I was little it really didn't make much of a difference. Kids are pretty gender ambiguous and when everybody's running around in the woods blasting giant caterpillars out of trees it doesn't matter which way you leave the toilet seat in the unisex bathroom. But boys get cooler starter Kaijudomon, and I missed the signup deadline for the girls league anyway so I went with it. I'm a little near-sighted and for obvious reasons I try not to talk too much on camera or in private while I'm in my Kaijudomon clothes, which sort of leads me to the next question. quote:Who thinks the worst of your masked identity and why? Things got weird from middle school on after I picked up my first set of elite badges. All of a sudden there were all these news articles about how I was "The Silent Prince" or how I was "brooding with quiet wisdom" or something. There were like a million fan clubs and letters which ranged from really nice to kind of totally inappropriate. Eventually one of the fan clubs forced the others out of existence or absorbed them all, and this girl Erica Flosthoffler was the president. She sent a lot of letters and presents. A lot. I mean like a lot, lot and as general policy they tell you that replying with a form letter, fridge magnet of your favorite Kaijudomon, or maybe a signed picture is the best way to go so that's what I did. The league even had a service that sent out merch for you so I used that. It turns out Erica assumed I was reading her letters and that we were carrying on this long, drawn out conversational romance thing and it turned out really horrible which is kinda 50% why I want to get out of Kaijudomon battles in the first place. quote:Why do you care about the team? 1. What made you decide to join the League of Heroes? Do you have a positive or negative opinion of them? Positive? I mean, they're the good guys right? So it's like a job like any other, but for people with special powers or who want to fight against evil. Why wouldn't you be positive about that? 2. What significant Hero or Villain have you had a run-in with? Why are they likely to remember you? There's a big name villain who goes by the name of Two Gentlemen of Verona (which doesn't even make sense because there's only one of him!) and I ran into him the other day while I was getting groceries for my mom. I think he was in the middle of a duel with Sir Lord Valiant? Karapple beaned him in the crotch with a high pressure fruit shot and he was pretty steamed about the whole thing. He gave a five minute monologue about dastardity while they were taking him away. 3. What do you like to do in your free time, and where do you like to hang out? Eeeeh I'm a really private person but I mostly go to the library on the weekends for the air conditioning and to read. If I'm wearing my 'mask' I like to take Karapple out for walks, maybe pick fights with wild monsters or Kaijudomon in the woods/park. 4. (Optional) When this series transitions from being a manga to having its own anime adaptation, what theme music would you have? What would your voice sound like? Something with a lot of flute and drums, with a good pop rock beat. Quiet, a little deeper and hoarse-ish in a way that's clearly a woman trying and mostly succeeding in sounding like a soft spoken but slightly effeminate man like Mayo Suzukaze from Ruroni Kenshin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06Es4AjKcpc 5. (Optional) A name for the thread, since the current one kinda sucks. Ganbatte! Municipal City Workers Justice! (season two would obviously be GMCWJ*Spark) quote:Name: Natsuki Subaru tl;dr a pretty vanilla Pokemaster/monster trainer whose secret identity is being herself, only as a boy pretending to be a cool and Superior Pokemaster. Because Pokegroupies are terrifying and I don't want to get stabbed to death in an alley or on a rooftop someplace by a gifted and wealthy teenage girl. Shot an apple into a crime lord's crotch. Rauri posted:CODE, the Outsider - What have been your favorite and least favorite things about having a physical body so far? What from your people's ways do you most want to share with these humans, and vice versa? How do your powers work, and which one do you like most? Why? Hmmm! My favourite thing is all these new senses that organic sapients have! I can touch things! Touch them! Interact with everything in so many different and wonderful ways! My least favourite thing, though, would have to be that... well, I can be touched back. Hard, or sharp, or similar unpleasant adjectives! That is not at all pleasant, it is quite the opposite! Of all my people's ways, I would suppose the one that I would like to share the most is how effortlessly we can combine in purpose! Humans are far less collective in nature, and that is saddening/upsetting - to be so separated from their fellows and comrades. I cannot with any degree of accuracy answer what I would want humans to share with my people because I do not know all that I need to know about humans! Though it may be mere conjecture at this point, I have observed that humans have a delightful amount of spontaneity, consciously and violently avoiding predictability, and that is most intriguing! Of the things I am knowledgeable about with humanity, that characteristic seems to be the most relevant to my people! My powers work through translating innate characteristics of my digital form to this physical form. Specifically, the mutability and flexibility of my digital form can translate towards a mutable and flexible physical form, and the ability of my digital form to bypass barriers likewise allows me to bypass physical barriers. These powers are due to me, not the physical construct - Dr. Hoshi created the construct but only as a rudimentary vessel for facilitating communication and experiencing the physical. It was not intended to have innate powers. Of my powers, I find greatest enjoyability in the mutability of my physical form. I cannot comprehend how other sapients are not upset by being locked into one physical form - it simply seems bizarre to me. quote:In addition to your individual questions, everyone please answer the two following: What Rank should you actually be? What's your greatest weakness? I am content with my current rank, and the judgment of the League of Heroes. They are the experts of this habitable world and must therefore be more knowledgeable than a strange newcomer such as myself. My greatest weakness is what you refer to as 'Telepathy' - and it is a truly horrifying ability! Among my people, maintaining the integrity of your digital form is of critical importance, and I have many safeguards in place to prevent my digital form from being 'hacked' (A very confusing term, how does vertically chopping at a thing with a cutting implement relate to the manipulation of digital data?), but it is singularly impossible to create such safeguards for a physical form, much to my distress. I confess that I cannot think of a way to protect myself from having my physical form 'hacked' by a telepath, and it is a truly terrifying thought...

(Just imagine a magical anime domino mask.) For her introduction and most scenes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qXcHKez5Ew For when the facade breaks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gE1FCNFG40 As the disk slides into the DVD player, the TV screen blinks static for a moment before snapping to life with a picture of Mnemosyne grinning for the camera. A typical announcer voice starts speaking over the static background. Name: Mnemosyne Appraisal: Appears to be some sort of mentalist/telekinetic. Large amount of potential, with an emphasis on potential. Doesn't seem to take anything seriously which, with her powers, can be dangerous. Pre-Interview Recommendation: Acceptance into introductory ranks of the League. The picture suddenly turns to a video, and Mnemosyne is smiling off camera to an unknown speaker "So, Mnemosyne. Why do you want to join the League?" "I'm an empowered, and I want to help people. That's just what we do, right?" "Right, right. But what do you think of the League?" "The League's great! It helps people, and it's full of cool heroes!" The man's tone changes to a chiding cadence as he says, "Now, now. You've got to be completely honest for this interview. Don't worry. This is just background. It won't change your admission status." Mnemosyne's smile falters, just for a moment, but then she says, "Well... I guess I wouldn't mind being a normal person... But I am empowered, so I should join the League. So... it's fine. Really!" "Good. That's a common feeling, and it's completely understandable. But, you do know that you could just... not use your powers. Then, you wouldn't have to join the League. Or are they uncontrollable?" Mnemosyne shakes her head, saying, "Oh no. I really want to learn to control my powers. They're great! I couldn't stand the idea of not using them, and this is the best way to do that, right?" "Very well, then. Just wanted to make sure you knew all your options. Now, Mnemosyne, why did you choose to build that tower of yours where you did? The city doesn't mind, as it was an empty lot, but..." "Oh, I didn't build it. It's always been there." The interviewer pauses briefly before continuing, "Mnemosyne, we have several reports of it just appearing there over night. I don't think..." She laughs and waves off the concern, "Oh, you don't have any reason to worry. People just tend to forget it's there if they don't have a reason to remember it. It's magic! But now, people keep remembering it because they know it's where I live, and since I'm going to be a big superhero, they won't forget about it anymore!" "Hm... well, I hope that's the case, if only so we don't have another misunderstanding like we had with Atlas..." "Oh, right. It was pretty rude of him! He should have known better, especially a B ranked hero like him! But he just started banging on the walls, trying to tear the tower down! So, of course I had to do something. It was kind of funny watching him flailing around in the air when I levitated him, but I hope there aren't any hard feelings. I'm sure we'll be great friends once he just gets to get to know me!" When the topic changes to Atlas, a small file pops up. The standard brawler package, with super strength, endurance, and durability. He's a member of the Titans, a Greco-roman themed team. At the bottom of the record is an official reprimand for his rash actions. Then, there's a cut to another clipt "So, how about your personal life? We won't make you disclose your secret identity if you don't want to, but just a general idea of what a normal day looks like for you." "Well... I live by myself. No parents or anything. I do have a... butler? An assistant? He lives in the tower and is a large rock golem that goes by... um... Rock." She looks a little embarrassed at the name but keeps talking. "He's really nice and cooks all the time. I don't know how he got to be such a good cook since, you know, golem, but he's great. But, outside of that... it's easy enough to slip out and walk around like a normal teenager. You probably wouldn't recognize me if we passed each other on the street." She taps her mask and grins as she says, "Magic!" She laughs at her little gesture then continues, "But, I like taking pictures and painting. It's really relaxing. I hang them up in the tower. I even go to some classes in the park. There's a lot of great people there!" The video cuts out for a second, then pops back to life. Mnemosyne is looking tired, but she's still smiling. The clock in the background shows that it's been at least an hour since the last clip. "Why are you refusing to talk about how you got your powers? The League doesn't discriminate based on anything like that, but refusing to talk about it... won't look good on your application." Mnemosyne finally drops the smile completely and leans back in her chair. She stares at the man off camera for a solid minute before saying, "...This is a completely confidential interview, right? Ok. I'm only going to say this once, so pay attention. And I mean it. I can't talk about it again." She takes a deep breath and says, "My real name is Linda Pine, and I've got some big problems. We all might, really. That tower of mine? It wasn't always mine." Mnemosyne waves her hand as she looks for the right word, before saying, "I... inherited them from my mother, and the tower comes with the powers. You don't remember her, but you should. Honestly, I barely remember her. But she was an A ranked superhero. People just... forget. That's what happens when the mists come for you." Mnemosyne swallows hard and nervously looks around, half expecting to see something. After convincing herself nothings wrong, she takes a deep breath and starts rapidly speaking, "They're locked in the bottom of the tower, but even there, they can feed on knowledge and fear. Just talking about them right now is making it stronger. But, you have to know, so here's the story. My mom and her mother and so on were charged with keeping the Mists locked up. The way it's written on the vault in the basement is that the first person in my family who figured out what was going on knew they couldn't keep the idea secret forever. So, they harvested a small bit of the mists and breathed it in. After harnessing its power, they made people forget about it. About the tower, too. It gets passed down through my family, so, yes, there's a little bit of the mists in me. And it's always listening. If enough of the mists are released, then the current guardian is consumed and forgotten. That's why you won't find my mom in any of your records. As far as the rest of the world is concerned, she never existed. So, that's why I can't talk about it. I don't want to die. Even worse, if something happens to me, I don't have anyone to pass it on to, and who knows what will happen then?" Mnemosyne is still looking off camera, looking exhausted. Then, she collects herself, and the smile returns to her face. It doesn't reach her eyes. She keeps waiting for the interviewer to speak, but before anything else is said, the picture from the start of the video returns and the same announcer voice starts speaking again. Name: Mnemosyne Appraisal: Appears to be some sort of mentalist/telekinetic. Large amount of potential, with an emphasis on potential. Mnemosyne might be delusional, but she does appear to take things more seriously than initially thought. Her claims bear investigation, but for now, we have seen no evidence to support it. Final Recommendation: Acceptance into introductory ranks of the League. Assign a B ranked investigator to look into her story. quote:Hero Name: Mnemosyne Capfalcon fucked around with this message at 04:15 on Oct 14, 2016 |

To make it official - I will be running two different threads for this game, each consisting of a different team. One team's going to be in Zone Twenty-Three, the other's going to get Zone Twenty-Six, on the exact opposite side of the city some nearly ninety miles away. Both threads will exist in the same canon, but it's not my intent for the teams to crossover anytime soon, if ever. Mostly there's just too many good apps for me to not take as many as I can, and I've got a bunch of ideas for this game so I feel like having two teams Questions Round 1 The Amazing Amazon, the Legacy - (Will edit in for you later, after I get some background fiction.) Monster Herald Nine, the Doomed - What was Kaiju-O said to have done the last time he was awake? How long do you think you have before you become more Kaiju than person, and what symptoms have you noticed already? What's the strongest foe you've fought so far, and how did you defeat them? Elegant Prince, the Janus - What Kaijudomon are you certain to keep on you at all times / are your core team? What do you think would happen to you if your true identity were discovered? What piece of advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out, and what Kaijudomon of yours is so valuable others want to steal it? (You can reflavor / rename your powers to represent you summoning different Kaijudomon if you'd like, since that probably makes more sense than going all Spider-Man on foes.) Mnemosyne, the Doomed - How do your powers work exactly, and which one is the most, uh, fun for you? Could you describe how the Tower looks for me, both inside and out? Who do you think would miss you, even if the worst came to pass? How long do you think you have? In addition to your individual questions, everyone please answer the two following: What Rank should you actually be? What's your greatest weakness? --------------------------------- Questions Round 2 Red Witch, the Nova - What is it about mundane, non-Empowered people that you don't really get anymore? What is it that you want more than anything else? What's stopping you from obtaining or achieving it? Getterman, the Outsider - What is the GETTERNYAN armed with, and just how good are you at piloting it? How does its weakness to girls typically manifest itself? Which do you like better, here, or home? Jumping Flash, the Beacon - What's an innovative use you've discovered for Air Walking? What do you do each day to maintain your training regimen? Who in the League doesn't believe in you at all, and has said so? Slipstream, the Beacon - What all are you willing to do to further your reputation? Who or what is holding you back from the Fame and Popularity you deserve? Is the bat you carry special too, or do you just like having a bat handy? Stardust Scout, the Janus - What do most people at your school think of Stardust Scout, and what do they think of Koneko? What villain power do you hate most? Who makes your civilian life more difficult, and what does your family think of your secret identity? Zero Fighter, the Bull - How do you utilize your Zero Wi-Fi technology during battle? What weakness does C.H.A.O.S. have that you noticed during your fight with her? What signs have you noticed of Havok continuing to search for you? Junior Jumble, the Transformed - When you get right down to it, other than maybe intelligence, what differentiates you from a Monster? What other victim of the Puzzle Maker have you heard of that's become a Villain? What keeps you going when things are most hopeless? Hero1, the Delinquent - Do you think there's anyone in the League of Heroes that could help your brother? Would you rather be feared or underestimated? Tell me about a time that getting in close and swinging for the fences worked out for you. Nemesis, the Bull - What unexpected weakness or limitation do your powers have? What personality traits do you find most endearing? Conversely, what about other people most annoys you? What do you want most out of life? Toriko Oubou, the Protege - How do you manage to stay effective in long fights with your skillset? What's your favorite type of character or class to play in games, and what does it say about you? What leads you to believe Kurohara is more than she seems to be so far? CODE, the Outsider - What lead do you have on tracking down Telos? What in the base have you upgraded with your technology, and what about its new functions did your teammates find surprising? Some heroes have catchphrases or signature poses - do you have any of either of those for yourself yet? Rauri fucked around with this message at 08:56 on Apr 28, 2016 |

Please, don't be scared. I only want to help you. You have to understand, I have to help you. I don't have a choice. But if I could choose, I would still do it. I already did. Um, hello. My name is Tetsuya Akagawa, and... I'm a demon. Er, ghost. No, the term is yōkai. At least, some of the time. Yeah... You know how life is confusing? Well... so is dying. It's not really an ending point. The idea what's alive and what's not is... cloudy. The spirit inside of you is constantly in a cycle of reincarnation, but it's not like what you imagine. You are constantly transforming. Constantly transforming. Even if you're the same person from one moment to next, everything you experience is like a new life. Like that boat, you know the one? Oh geez. You look really confused. And a little scared. I am too. I was just a school kid. I didn't have a lot of friends, but I really liked to read. I loved poetry, especially Baudelaire. I was just, normal. I liked to sit in the summer on the cool, wet grass, feel the setting sun on my skin, and listen to the cicadas drone for hours. That's all over now. I can't feel, I can't eat, I can't even sleep... and I look evil. Maybe I am, in a way. Yōkai can be cruel or helpful, but they always invoke fear in people. In a way, maybe that's why people avoided me, because really I wasn't completely normal. Not fully. It has to do with my dad. My father is Dairoku Tenmaou, who leads the Six Billion Demon Army. He was formerly a shinigami, a death god, tasked with protecting the spirit world and keeping the boundary safe between both worlds. Instead he rebelled against Yama King and wants to create a nation of yōkai on earth, believing that humans have put the worlds out of balance and that the two worlds need to be joined, by force if necessary. He's a demon, yes, but if you're thinking that makes me a half-demon, that's not how it works. I mean, I am that, but... I wasn't born that way. It's a spirit thing and I don't exactly fully understand it myself. He's... nicer than you'd imagine. He really likes sweets. But he did let me die. We used to live in Zone Thirteen. Yeah, that one. This was before all the... Well, demons. When the Six Billion Demon Army arrived, looking to take the city, there wasn't a lot of time for the League to react. They just simply appeared everywhere they needed to be, starting taking people and looking to demolish everything and set up a beach-head. He unleashed his demons to cause havoc, and distract the heroes while he prepared for the inevitable S-Rank reaction. One of his lieutenants tried to attack my mother. I don't know if he knew anything or not, or if he was acting on orders or on his own, but I stepped forward. I felt the cuts against my skin, and they are still there today. They don't hurt. He wasn't trying to kill her, he was trying to mark her. Instead, he marked me. I.. don't know what happened, but I grabbed the scythe, and I felt the whirlwind pull us upwards, going higher and higher, cutting through the ceiling into the sky. At some point, everything went black for both of us. I'm told that when my father, Tenmaou, heard of my death, he was silent for a moment, and then declared it "acceptable losses." Yeah, he's a big softie. Something about the scythe, the kamaitachi, interacted with my resonance. Later, I was told that all souls have a resonance, a sound that they make, and it's the music the spirit plays that makes everything else. I'm not sure I believed that, but me and this demon were definitely linked somehow, kharmic or not. I went to Hell. It's not that bad, it's just where Yama King lives. He's... bad, but just. That's where my sentence was decided, like he decides for all souls when they are ready to go on to the next stage. He decided that someone had to pay for the debt my father had accrued. For every demon that crossed over, every affront, I'd have to balance the scales. I'd have to bring them back, and for every life that was taken away, save another. Six billion souls, at least. And until then, I'd be yōkai. Maybe forever. He didn't really say if I'll get a chance to live again, only that this is what I must do. To be honest... It's what I'd do anyway, after all this. I want to help people. But when I first came back, it wasn't that easy. The spirit I took with me, he didn't just go away. I learned his named was Idzuna, and that we were now linked. Every spirit that comes back from the other side has a guardian, and also kind of a warden to make sure we stick to our duty and remember to come back. called a psychopomp. Idzuna had to pay for his treason, and since spirits can't really die, it was either being banished, or paying off his debt with service, so he became my psychopomp. I'm not sure exactly how he feels about that. Idzuna wielded kamaitachi before I did, but he was not the original owner. Many animal spirits and shinigami had held it, and I could feel the history in the blade. It gave me power over the invisible wind, so long as I hold it. But that's not the part of me that's a demon, or that Idzuna is... "helping" me deal with, though he has taught me a few of its powers. I'm pretty sure he's still hiding more from me. The "invisible wind" does not kill people. It cuts their flesh, but doesn't cause any pain. It makes them numb, locks them in place, marks and binds them. It can also do other strange things, according to legend, but I only really know the basics. And maybe it really can kill. I will never use kamaitachi that way. There's a part of me that might. Because my body is not entirely mortal or spirit, anytime I get mad, or feel pain (I still do feel that, just not any of the good feelings), it gets stronger. I learned pretty quickly that I can't die. I just get hurt. I can get really, really badly hurt. I have to feel every bit of that hurt, but it doesn't take me out. I just get... more spirit. Eventually, I might turn fully into a spirit, but I try not to do that. I'd rather heal, and get a little closer to my form. When I first came into the world, I didn't know what to do, and Idzuna still wasn't helping me,. All my sorrow, and even my anger, made that spirit part of me stronger. I am a demon. I can never forget that. But being around people, saving them, it helps. Not just because it's doing what Yama King asked. There isn't any special curse on me where if I don't do good, I'll turn into something bad. That's not how it works. What makes you a good person, allows you to transform into a better life, is all your choice. That's why my dad and all those demons could rebel. They had the choice, and they chose it because of the choices human made. Nobody can make you do anything, but I choose to be good. Well, I mean, between the League and Yama King, it may seem like I don't have a choice. People though I was a demon when I came back from Hell, and that's because I am one. Maybe not a bad one, but yōkai inspire fear naturally in others. It's because we're not of the world. You know, if a mortal goes on the other side? It's the same thing. Everything goes a little nuts. And if you go to where the gods, the kami dwell... Um, this is a bit off-topic... The League gave me everything, once they realized I wasn't trying to hurt anyone. Some say they want a chip to use against Tenmaou, which might be true, but that's OK. I want to fight him, one day, and show him that he could make a different choice than he's making now. The League gave me the chance to choose to be a hero. They gave me this armor, a home, and while I can't exactly have a normal life, it's at least some kind of life. I don't even know why anyone would think less of them for this. They only have our best interest at heart, right? I know my mother is still alive somewhere, but... I don't ever want her to see me like this. I know she's probably sad that I'm gone, but I'd rather she remember the Tetsuya that was... normal. I mean, it's not that it would be weird for her. She loved my dad, after all. It's just that... I just want that Tetsuya to still be someone, if that makes sense? If she knows when I died I became this, the Tetsuya that just liked to read poetry and lay in the grass would be gone. There'd only be the Tetsuya that became a demon. ... I know that doesn't have to do with the crew alone, but I hope that makes some sense? The team is my new family, and I don't need them to know Tetsuya the boy who laid in the grass no more than I want mom to know Tetsuya the demon boy. I love them all, even if its embarrassing to admit it, for them and me. Maybe they don't trust me, but I trust all of them. Together, we can do anything. Together, we can be heroes. Boy Vulcan is everything I wish I could be. He's done so much for me, and I wish I could repay him. Boy Vulcan is the son of Hephaestus, from Olympus, one of the kami. Yeah, a demigod. Kind of, look, it's a lot like being born of a demon. It's just not simple to call him a half-god. But he is special. Like his father, he can build anything. Like his father, he was not given all the advantages others had, and I think that's why he understood me so well. Just like he built his adamantine arm, he built this armor for me, out of what he calls soulsteel. No, it's not anything scary, it's just steel who had the kami inside it woken up. The little kami aren't talkative like yōkai are, but it's alive, and that means it can... contain me. Yeah, I know the word sounds bad, but it's for the best. The armor makes sure that if I fully transform into a demon, it will keep me contained in there. It protects others as much as it protects me. Boy Vulcan only wants to help me. The League only wants to help me help others. ... ... Um. I don't have an off switch. I can't just take off the mask. Well, actually, I'm allowed to take off the helmet, for up to an hour, according to League regulations. If I start to transform, I have to put it back. An hour is usually about how long it takes before I start to... change. While I'm inside the soulsteel, I feel safe. That helps. I make sure I don't get angry, but when I get hurt, I can't really help that. Sometimes, I get scared that it's going to break. I'm not sure what will happen if that happens, and I'm really close to... I still like to do things though. I sometimes try to cover up the armor as best I can and go out with the others. But I can't eat or drink or do, normal things like that. I used to think anime was kind of childish, but now television is kind of one of the things that I just like to watch, and there's a lot more... ... Oh! Um. Yeah, I guess you, uh, found those. I know they are for girls but... It's hard to follow my idol groups in the magazines for boys. I know it's embarassing, and I promise I'm not creepy. I just think it's... a good thing, to cherish what is good, like idols. I'm not a stupid kid, I know it's not real. But we're heroes, we wear masks too, don't we? Theme Music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkQfW2NXvJU I imagine that Kamaitachi has a female seiyuu and sounds younger and softer than he probably is, dissonant with his fearsome appearance. Again, basis of inspiration a little was Alphonse from Full Metal Alchemist, as much as Devilman and Yu Yu Hakusho. When he transforms when angry or in a lot of pain his voice becomes shrill and high-pitched, basically standard voice effects for an evil demon/split personality. Idzuna speaks like a gangster. Dairoku Tenmaou has his own theme music and is voiced by NORIO WAKAMOTO. This Mask Of Mine Glows With An Awesome Power! Character Sheet posted:Hero Name: Kamaitachi

quote:What unexpected weakness or limitation do your powers have? Okay, this is second hand - this is what the League's scientists came up with after getting a huge headache over my powers. Look, I'm ten years old, I haven't even got my first physics lesson yet. Actually, hold on, they wrote it down for me, let me go find that paper... ah! there we go. So they described my power as "turning myself into an unstoppable force and immovable object at the same time." Like, seriously, I'm getting a headache just trying to comprehend their words. Anyway, the thing about it is: Nobody can move me, but unlike a theoretical immovable object, I still can have momentum. So when anything touches me, physics kick in, and the weaker object gives in. And since I can't be moved at all when moving my powers, whatever hits me or I hit will pretty much deform itself horribly, all the time. it gets even funkier when I walk into stuff. See, the weaker object gives way for me. And just about everything in the universe seems to count as weaker object to me. When I walk into a wall, I don't bounce off - no, the wall literally bends itself away from me, for example. Weights also kind of become irrelevant - if I can give an object indestructibility, I can pick it up thanks to being an unstoppable force. It's just I usually go THROUGH if it I don't - there's a mass limit for my the invincibility fields I can project, roughly a van's worth. One of the bigger problems is that I can't even pick up anybody in this mode - even the tiny momentum from grabbing onto a person will shred them. See, humans aren't an exception to that, at all. I think you'll see the problem there? My power is stupidly lethal. Which is why I've come to the conclusion that it can't be a natural power DEUS simply awoke in me. No, this... this just screams designed to me. It's too efficient. It doesn't bypass the natural laws, it abuses them horribly. I dubbed this mode "sharp". This is basically what I use fighting robots and such. I mean, I can literally shred them by walking into them, it's kind of insane. Now, remember when I said my brainwashed self didn't hold back? ... yeah. So, in the meantime, I've managed to circumvent this issue, only slightly. I've managed to develop a different mode, which I call 'soft.' It basically removes the 'Unstoppable Force' part out of the equation. It reduces my ridiculous combat power to 'merely' being able to lift throw a cars, but more importantly - things (and more importantly, people) that hit me don't end up being reshaped like clay molds. Also, my force projection - basically, short range telekinesis, they called it. It's got a roughly twenty meter range, and has a mass limit - a very high one, however. It's in fact stronger than what I can lift in 'soft' mode. Roughly, tanks. I can lift all but the heaviest ones with it, and I can flat out crush the lighter ones. And there's one more thing. For a reason even the scientists are not sure of, invisibility powers completely ignore my power, even 'sharp'. Actually, even mundane versions of it bypass it. Theories include that I need to be consciously aware of the target and it's rough direction related to me, or having to 'subconsciously brace for impact'. I don't really know what to make of it. quote:What personality traits do you find most endearing? That sure is a odd question! Hmm... Well, I guess I'm actually pretty curious, myself. And I do like other people that like to improve their knowledge. May be related to the large gaps of memory I have, probably due to DEUS' tampering. It may sound funny considering my situation, but I actually am pretty fond of scientists! And they're pretty fond of me, too. The League scientists, I mean. They say that my power opens up all manner of research possibilities! You know, I've actually been taking part in tests and experiments with them almost more than I'm on the field. They sure know how to bribe a girl, too! So many sweets. Mmh, Chocolate... Wait, where was I? Oh yeah, right. Hmm... Well, I dunno. Cooperative People. Honest people, I guess? I really don't think about this kind of stuff, much. It's the sum of the personality that matters to me, not single parts. I can look past some things as long as the person isn't overall very negative. quote:Conversely, what about other people most annoys you? I really don't like people that don't know their limits. Overconfident people are so annoying. Nothing makes me chuckle more than one of these people falling flat on their face, biting off more than they can chew.Yes, I know, it's kind of mean. But I've grown pretty tired of berating them. Most just chalk it up to 'me being a kid and not knowing better'. Oh, yeah, that, I hate too. I mean, yeah, I get it. I'm really young for a hero. But I also have a pretty incredible power, AND a mysterious organization after me. I can't just 'go back to school'. If I disappear off the grid... who says DEUS won't just 'disappear' me entirely? ... Sorry, maybe I should stop being so negative. I'm just... worried. Other than that... crudeness, I guess. There are ways to get your point across without swearing, you know. And I also really dislike petty people. I'm sure you can figure out why. quote:What do you want most out of life? Okay, these questions are getting really strange, now. What, are you gonna ask me what I want to be in ten years next? Give me a break, I haven't even started high school yet. Hmm... well, I... I really don't know. I guess just that what I can't have. Isn't that what all humans want? For me, it's probably a normal life. No superpowers, no people after me. I just don't really have high hopes of ever getting it. I guess I'll just have to settle for a relative peace, huh? Maybe, after DEUS has been dealt with, I'll finally manage to find some peace... Of course, friends are pretty high on my priority list, too. I... don't remember any of them from before. And they don't remember me... Rauri posted:Jumping Flash, the Beacon - What's an innovative use you've discovered for Air Walking? What do you do each day to maintain your training regimen? Who in the League doesn't believe in you at all, and has said so? Well, Air Walkin's really good for gettin' place to place. It's like parkour, only I can do it wherever! Really great for urban traversal. I can also hop off of the air, so I can easily get a lot of height really quick by bouncing off of it. On a related note, my training regimen usually consists of a few laps of air parkour around the Zone. Keeps me agile and focused! I also do a bit of weight lifting and martial arts training, because Air Walking alone won't take down the bad guys. I can bench like 120 pounds! Lemme tell ya who pisses me off, that B-Rank hero Bobcut Beetle. She hasn't liked me from the start, and doesn't hesitate to remind me of it. She says MY power's useless, but she creates barriers, how is that more useful! Luckily, she's in Zone Fifteen, where I DON'T HAVE TO SEE HER!

Rauri posted:Elegant Prince, the Janus - What Kaijudomon are you certain to keep on you at all times / are your core team? What do you think would happen to you if your true identity were discovered? What piece of advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out, and what Kaijudomon of yours is so valuable others want to steal it? (You can reflavor / rename your powers to represent you summoning different Kaijudomon if you'd like, since that probably makes more sense than going all Spider-Man on foes.) Well Karapple is always with me. I've had it since it was it was Tsuyukkuri, the Drizzling Plum Kaijudomon. If I had one piece of advice to give the grade school me it would be to check the No on a lot more of 'optional' the boxes for the Kaijudomon Trainers Association and League paperwork. I think technically there isn't a rule about if I've actually been a girl this whole time but there were a lot of contracts, licenses, and waivers I had to sign and my mom just went with it because it's just Kaijudomon and whats the big deal about kids play fighting with half-imaginary monsters? I'm a little worried that they might want me to pay back my prize money or pull the endorsement and royalty checks or sue my mom or something, but honestly that's just money and isn't as big of a deal (probably) but I'm way more concerned about what the fan reaction would be. Did you hear about the Eri Eri Emi thing? It got out that she was dating a dude she knew from high school and a bunch of her fans went to her house and tried to commit group suicide. Kaijudomon fans are serious business. But my Kaijudomon are great though! They're my friends and I love them. I set most of them free after I got my Elite Master badge since I'm not going to start a gym and it's not fair to cart around dozens of them only to call them out when I need the right element or type in a fight. But I suppose if I really wanted to I could just go out and capture them again assuming somebody else hasn't caught them. The others I've got in my box at the League, which is like a safety deposit box crossed with the internet for League locations. The only ones that I have now are Karapple and Mimikey. As the second stage evolution of Tsuyukkuri Karapple is a Tree and Fighting type so I have most elements on the grid covered there, and Mimikey is just convenient to have for daily use because it can change into different material types. Oh! I've never unsummoned Karapple like ever, so that's some kind of Guinness World Record I think. There used to be a bunch of creepy teenagers that would follow me around in the summer while I was on my Kaijudomon journeys who'd always try to pressure me into trading Karapple away because they thought he was a rare type or something. Mimikey is a rare type of Kaijudomon too, but for some reason they just really fixated on Karapple. I guess because it's smarter and better at using its powers because we're together all the time? I'm thinking Kaijudomon trainers are sort of like a (maybe?) slightly less horrible version of pop idols so the social pressure, economic loss, and real threat of otaku doing a double suicide is my biggest concern.

"I am Gettertalk" the deep voice says "So let me explain the questions you have" "Getternyan is a mobile tank, equipped with a toy production factory within itself, able to produce relevant toy armaments for the current situation, but will only start production if fed a Getternyan Treat! If there is a flying enemy to take care of for example, Getternyan can release flying GetterNyanPlanes, small planes about the size of a remote control car that explode and shoot tiny machine guns, Getternyan is also strong and it is able to face off against larger enemies on its own. Getternyan is not controlled by Getterman, instead, Getterman tells it where it needs to go and it will find its own way, with Getterman holding onto the safety bar in front, standing on its belt. Getternyan however can become thoroughly disinterested in that day's combat by not only seeing a pretty girl and wanting to get pet by them, but also by balls of yarn and other cat-like distractions, usually it us up to Getterman to get Getternyan to work properly." "Thank you Gettertalk, and I really like it here, mostly because it gives me a chance to start a new and be a hero again, with the bad guy in my world defeated I have nothing really to do anymore there so this is an exciting new adventure for me!"

Rauri posted:What is it about mundane, non-Empowered people that you don't really get anymore? I'd have to say that, well, it's kind of hard to relate to how most people live their lives, you know? Like going to school and doing homework and working jobs. I did that when I was younger, but now I have to train and go out on patrols. My education is provided by the League, and it's good and all, but it's not like going to school and meeting other kids you know? I think some of the other heroes do go to school here, but I don't think they want me doing that right now. Rauri posted:What is it that you want more than anything else? What's stopping you from obtaining or achieving it? What do I want? Er, uh, well...I kind of want, uh, the respect of the other magic using heroes in the League. The lower ranking ones, at least. Some of them have been sort of, uh, rude. And I can kind of understand. Because I've caused some large amounts of damage. Unintentionally though! And I don't exactly have, uh, that great control over my powers all the time. Some of them are way better at it and let me know.
