CCP is banning ganking now?

Apparently? Question mark? The thread in question is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/5ejei1/ccp_bans_20_gankers_for_something_effectively/

I'm completely indifferent to this, considering I'm a wormholer who thinks k-space is for runs to Jita for supplies and killmails in low and null.

For those of you who care, CCP Falcon has officially released a statement:

quote:

Probably going to get hardcore flamed and downvoted into the seventh circle of hell for this, but here goes:

I just went downstairs to customer support and spoke to our Lead GMs about this, more out of curiosity than anything else. Took a look at the case, and this was actually intricately investigated by our Senior CS guys who took the time to look in depth at event logs from Tranquility.

I'm assuming that since the guys who were banned were given a final response to appeals on the matter in the last 48 hours that upholds the suspensions, this is why the topic has now been brought to reddit (which isn't going to change the outcome).

The TL;DR is pretty simple: Ganking in highsec is not against the rules - Delaying CONCORD response is. Don't do it, and you won't get banned.

Part of the problem is the people banned are known as people who push the envelope in terms of how far they can get away with in regards to the rules.

I always thought this was one of the best things about EVE. EVE is the first (out of two) MMOs I've ever played. The idea that the universe is lawless and does it's own thing in Lowsec and the idea that some of those who do criminals will try to get you in High sec as well makes it exciting.

Non PVP/PVE areas seem a little lacklustre. Having to constantly watch ones back goes hand in hand with the cool narrative the EVE online universe has.

I would certainly not want to lose my neat ships, but I would hate to not have that dangerous excitement even more.

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with suicide ganking. As I said before, I'm a wormholer, so high-sec to me is just "there". A place to visit when getting supplies. I've gotten suicide ganked before on supply runs, and my response is always this: "What could I do to avoid it next time?"

What I am saying is that gankers have used techniques that the legality of which immediately got questioned, such as hyperdunking. Maybe this time they did push it too far, maybe they didn't and got unfairly banned. Who knows, because right now it's "he said she said", and one of those is final.

Official CCP statement on the recent bans:
https://community.eveonline.com/news/news-channels/eve-online-news/exploit-notification-delaying-concord-response

quote:

We would like to inform players that distracting CONCORD by jettisoning ships or other items into space to distract them from attacking the perpetrator of a criminal act is now considered an exploit.

As of the date and time stamp of this message, this practice is now considered an abuse of the criminal flagging system, and will be actioned as an exploit under our suspension and ban policy.

This ruling follows a previous announcement by customer support regarding the use of drones for this tactic in 2012.

Reminder: This announcement concerns a specific method of delaying Concord's response time to the scene of a crime. We would like to clarify that all methods of delaying Concord's response time are considered an exploit.

Trying to figure out the method to CCP's madness is usually a losing battle, but I think the reason that C5/C6 space is so interconnected is to promote the use of caps in w-space between holes.

one factor that really helps them though is that WH groups tend to be small, like really small (20-50 dudes for most, in one tz); HK can show up with many more active players (with the skillpoints to match) and just destroy smaller groups

inter-connectivity of WH space would probably help displace HK if there were another group in WH space that had the playerbase to do so

The problem is while there are groups with the size and skillpoints of HK, they have no interest in evicting them. If they catch each other ratting, sure, they'll blow each other up, but they have no intention of going after any real assets of the other.

I think it's Children of Light. Fozzie has talked about that on twitter before. Palatine is still pretty much impossible at this point unless someone crashes the PI market hardcore, and that's the only realistic way I see a WH corp doing it, nor do I think regular Keepstars are big news at this point.

Plus, whoever manages to drop the Palatine would brag about it so hard, though he very much could be referring to the anchoring starting, but again, I highly doubt that's it.
