I know levels don't mean much at this point, but drat you're gaining lots from just the boss fights. Also, I found a recipe for that fish in salt dome dish you guys were talking about.

Levels don't mean a whole lot in general because the bosses scale up/down to you. On the other hand, the dens of evil are tied to specific levels, so you'll want to be nearly maxed out before attempting Night of Unending Chaos or the other top-end gauntlets. But yeah, you'll easily hit the level cap just from fighting the bosses and clearing the dens of evil.

Consequently, the TAS is able to skip all of the random encounters and just go from one boss to the next, omitting basically the entirety of the levelup treadmill the game has. Amusingly, if you beat down the bosses too quickly, they sprout extra healthbars, so there's a certain amount of idling during fights to go just slowly enough that you don't have to waste a bunch of time on inexplicably excessively durable enemies.

TAS is on Fury mode, so the enemies are scaled to Legend in terms of HP/Damage, i.e. not scaled to you. This is necessary since the gimmick of Fury is to block so you can't have enemies constantly at your level and able to 2-shot your sword and consequently you. I believe they do the same for Heroic mode in Odin Sphere, of which I'm considering attempting.

Today its all the challenge missions, with a little bonus. Though "Challenge" is sort of a liberal term Also, a bonus. Imagine, if you will, a beatemup from vanillaware set in America. With the food all being lovingly drawn hot dogs

poo poo, I never knew about that mermaid. That's so cool and...hidden in plain sight.

I want to assume that the mermaid is based on an actual fish since her tail looks like it'd move sideways like a fish rather than undulate up and down like a cetacean.

Today we look at some "alternate endings," which is kind of a misleading term since all endings are canon in a way according to George Kamitani. Least Kisuke's is pretty awesome. Also trip report: Finished recording the DLC. Pretty loving mad at the alternate endings to some.

I like the Tanuki in the background of Kisuke's final vignette. He's all like 'OH SNAP SON! ECHIGOYA'S GOT A MURAMASA AND IS GONNA CUT SOME BIZNATCHES UP!'

The Alt ending for both them might as well have been labeled suddenly become the back story for an anime.

Quick question: does anyone else seem to have issues with my videos not loading at 60fps? I just noticed this recent vid and the kisuke boss re-fights are not in 60 on YT despite them being 60 on my hard drive.

They're definitely playing at 60 FPS for me, Wang, so I dunno what's up. Maybe Youtube is being a bastard and not giving you the 720p version of the video?

Palemoon, for example, doesn't support 60fps. Half the reason I have Chrome is that it's well optimized for playing youtubes.

Today we look at the hardest challenge mission. There's a reason why I made it separate from the other video and after the second endings.

Why even bother renaming all the swords in English if you're not going to call Oboro Muramasa "The Demon Blade"? If it's true that bosses have a variable amount of health depending on how long each phase takes you, it's there as an adaptive difficulty system. It's unfortunate that anyone found out about it.

FractalSandwich posted:Why even bother renaming all the swords in English if you're not going to call Oboro Muramasa "The Demon Blade"? Yeah the localization is somewhat odd in the main game, but it gets even stranger in the DLC. I'll make mention of it when it comes up. Also I think the adaptive difficulty is a function of Chaos mode, but I can't say for sure since I've never played Legend mode. Highwang fucked around with this message at 00:42 on Jul 18, 2016 |

I can confirm that night of pandemonium isn't too bad on Legend - it just takes forever. The lack of scaling generally means enemies juggle easier, interrupt easier, and die quicker. For instance, the master ninjas and vile monks are annoying, but pretty easy to handle if you roll through them and attack.

Poll: How should I edit Genroku Legends' endings? And here we are at the final batch at endings. The fruits of our labor are sweet indeed. I should have a bonus video up this week as well before we get started with the DLC.

Thanks again for having me on, Highwang! Most Vanillaware games were always on my "I'll get around to this" list, but I never actually had the chance to own 'em - or even find the time to see them being played. I've gotta say, Muramasa is one pretty game. I'll have to get caught up on the main story in the near future.
