Stars need some lucky bounces of their own in this game. Hate to lose the series on a fluke goal.

Man Ruff really needs to be more careful with the deployment of this 4th line than he has been. He puts them out there on the line change against the Blues 2nd line, and now they ice the puck. Can't put them in that position.

good first 20 for Dallas, no doubt they were the better team. Keep on playing well and hope for the luck to go your way

There aren't too many guys in this league who can juke a defender as well as Hemsky can. Too bad he's a notoriously bad finisher of chances

Stars played like poo poo this period, now they've lost the game. gently caress you Ruff for leaving a good player like Sceviour in the press box while Travis Moen and Brett Ritchie waddle around on the 4th line for 5 minutes a night.

Demers, Russel, and Oduya have all been complete poo poo this entire playoffs. Nill's only responsibility this off season is to replace two of those three with better players. Luckily two of those three have their contracts expiring so that's the first step taken care of. Watch Dallas management (which has always been poo poo at UFA signings) bring on Rob Scuderi or Brooks Orpik though. This team can't help but shoot themselves in the foot when it comes to filling in the edges of the roster.

That's about the 4th slam dunk goal that the Stars have missed the net on tonight. That'll lose you a playoff series

mrbass21 posted:4 on 4... The stars domain..... gently caress. Stars are actually historically one of the worst 4 on 4 teams. **seriously in past years where OT was 4 on 4 they always got mauled, this generally happens in the rare 4 on 4 play in regulation too.

well probably this is the series clincher for St. Louis. Stars had one bad period and it cost them. Stars have the potential to return next year with a very different looking team, but management has to up their game in the off-season.

Shinjobi posted:I've only followed the team the whole season, what do I even know? I'm with you. The Stars PK let up one of the highest rates of shot attempts and scoring chances against this season, though it did improve when Faksa came up and started playing regularly on it half way through the season. Basically the Stars PK ratio was saved by a strong goaltending performance by Kari Lehtonen when the Stars were short handed this season.. I think his SH sv% was actually almost as good as his 5 on 5 save percentage. I wouldn't mind if they fired both of the assistants. James Patrick's defensive zone system is no screaming hell either.

INSPECTAH DECK posted:people are idiots about their own team all the time. every guy on sas thinks their powerplay is poo poo and wants to fire 90% of their front office/coaching staff. they didnt lose this game on special teams and i have no idea why youre bringing it up here. Special teams have been a major problem for the Stars all year long. The penalty kill is awful - part of this reason is that Ruff tends to use his worst players on the PK outside of Jamie Benn, although things got slightly better when Faksa joined the NHL club. The 1st power play unit was scoring at a good clip when healthy because it had a disgusting amount of talent to work with, the 2nd PP unit looked like an unchoached collection of rookies who basically couldn't even enter the zone much less score all season long. The Stars could most certainly do better with their systems play then they currently do. Special teams is basically thought to be the only aspect of the game that coaching has a major impact on (atleast the only aspect of the game where you can demonstrate a persistent effect from coaching year over year) so that's the area where the Stars can improve on by changing the staff behind the bench.
