yeah, no one is sayng that the auto-cars are going to replace everyone tomorrow. its a matter of incrementalism. Googles approach might not be 100% ready for full automation, but that doesn't means that 85% ready isn't going to cost some jobs (and deskill a lot more jobs).

automation isn't just a problem with replacing people. it allows previously skilled jobs to be done by unskilled (and easily replaced) workers, which drives down wages.

gently caress, it's been done before, the USSR was governed by an increasingly senile and battery-powered comrade Brezhnev with all the juicy communism bits that nerds love to fellate themselves over, and we all know how that ended up, in extreme poverty for everyone and social unrest that ultimately drove the country to ruins. The way the country was operated fostered mind-blowing irresponsibility and laziness.
We don't need robots to accomplish this, a caste of senile robot-men are enough. USSR went from a global superpower to a laughingstock in less than 30 years.

Robots don't vote, people vote. If a large mass of people need food/shelter/ healthcare etc they will vote in candidates that give it to them in one form or another.

A large enough mass of people will out vote the huge cash corporate lobbying machine and those corporations will get taxed to provide for the survival needs of all those unemployed people

The issue then would be whether those corporations earned enough money in this automated labor/ low human employment economy to be profitable enough to pay taxes to support all those angry jobless voters

Extreme automation won't really work unless it's accompanied by a gradual shift towards socialism

When robots are the only ones working, there won't be anyone left to pay for your products so you might as well give at least some of it away for free. A society with free basic food and education shouldn't be that hard to make work. Robots make good teachers, and there will be a ton of bored unemployed people. Give people a VR helmet as part of the basic package and maybe they'll even start plugging themselves into the matrix voluntarily!

i dont think third world labor is going to be automated away very soon, its not expensive enough to bother replacing. technology is going to be used to convert as much first world labour into third world labour as possible though!

Alternatively you just use reduced demand for labor to drop labor prices and now it's cheaper just to pay a peasant to do the job instead of making a robot do it. Now you not only have a ton of wealth but you get to directly boss a bunch of people around too so you feel even higher in social status. Regular people live in constant fear of joblessness and prison

You're not thinking far enough. The endgame is we can pay americans to be our servants because they have no other options short of prison. All chance kf political change or unrest is limited via total media control, sophisticated surveillance, and freely available soft drugs.

Youre goimg to convert first world labor to thirld world labor by the first world becoming more like the third world

Computers are not as smart as you think they are. A retarded kid's brain is much more powerful than any computer. The only reason computers seem smart is because their architecture is uniquely designed to do arithmetic quickly. Deep Blue did not out-think Kasparov. Deep Blue ran the numbers on every single possibility of every single move -- because chess is discrete math and computers are uniquely suited to that.

A more fair comparison is neural networks vs. the human brain, and neural networks are nowhere close. Theoretically, you could build a neural network that is complex enough to mimic the human brain, and learn and adapt and make critical decisions based on inputs the same way the human brain does. Realistically, computers that are powerful enough to do this are nowhere on the horizon, and the best we can do right now is a "brain" whose ONLY purpose is to play Mario poorly or predict the next word in a sentence. Even this is deceptively impressive -- these AIs don't have to "learn" what words are, or who Mario is -- all that interpretation is built in, removing a huge part of the complexity.

Source: I work in biometrics. Right now computers aren't even smart enough that we can reliably teach them to tell apart cat vs. dog and you're telling me they're going to replace people.

good video, makes you think tbh. Would have to invent new jobs, but then again robots probably will invent those kinds of jobs and take it over regardless. It'll probably be some kind of unprecedented age of decadence, and we'd be looking at a vastly different economy where the abstract concept of money goes beyond something unfathomable. Barter System, Currency, something new now.
