I think it may survive and grow as a platform but I've seen quite a few reviewers be like 'most of the games aren't great' or that they are gimmicky. Think Jeff from GB said it already felt like VR came and went. It is reminding me of the Wii currently. Just way more expensive.

The Google cardboard apps were fun to use, despite being a total gimmick. The expensive VR is basically Wii games with a mouse attached to your head to function for looking in the game. EDIT: Virtual Boy had a class-action lawsuit because it gave a bunch of kids glasses. LOL

The Wii was an enormous success and did a great job at penetrating markets which traditionally don't buy a lot of games. This is nothing like the Wii.

Honestly even the sex games look kind of lame and those are probably the ones that make the best use of the tech - largely fixed in place and with complex 3d scenes hard to fit into a single camera angle

I have to say DOOM is looking awful. I'm watching it on twitch right now at https://www.twitch.tv/amazongames and holy poo poo no good music, it looks like a bland generic FPS. I know its not VR but it looks terrible.

I remember back when I was in college I saw some homebrew hacks using the Wii for head-tracking in that case you'd be playing on a regular TV screen, you'd be wearing a smaller equivalent of the Wii sensor bar on your head, and there'd be a Wiimote sitting under your TV pointed at you, and you could move your head around to look and I think you'd be using another wiimote/sensor bar combo to control your "gun"
