TRAVEL ADVISORY: TSA Says Arrive at O'Hare 3 Hours (Or More) Before Your Flight, Travelers beware: What's going on at O'Hare airport will take you more time than usual, and It's the kind of thing that makes traveling out of Milwaukee's General Mitchell International Airport all the more appealing. The TSA is advising travelers to arrive 3 hours early - or more - before flights due to incredibly long security lines there. The TSA is a national security risk, by causing these lines it makes it easier for someone to take out more people, not less. The TSA is terrible and should be disbanded. Don't fly anywhere either, unless you bring a cot.

I agree, I flew out of O'hare a couple weeks ago and we spent 2.5 hours in the fuckin TSA line, so some guy whole told me to put my laptop back in my bag to take it out and get probed afterwards because I didn't leave it out of the bag. Lucky I showed up 4 hours early. It's an constant reminder that america is ran by a bunch of loving cowards.

Seriously, I don't know if its within the White House's authority, but we need an executive order or some poo poo to expedite these screenings. Let everyone keep their fuckin' shoes and belts and poo poo on. And passengers ticketed for a plane that carries less than 180 passengers (like 737 or A320), should just get waived thru security completely because it's too small to bring down a large building, and frankly no one cares that much if it goes down.

I wonder if privatizing them will even make any difference. All the peons would obviously just stay exactly where they are under a different employer. Many of the management would probably stay too. Except now you've got a guy running it who actually wants to make a profit, and you have to wait 2 hours EVERY TIME because it's cheaper to do it that way.

Flew out of seatac recently and it was like 2+ hours from ariving at the airport till I was at my gate, didn't seem to be an understaffed issue either as pretty much all the scanners and such were being used just way too many people going through one bottleneck. It seems really counter-intuitive to me cause there's no security before those lines so if you have someone willing to blow themselves up you could easily get a ton of people about as tightly packed as you could ask for. particularly in one of the spots where the line either snakes back or where there's like 4+ adjacent lines for each section of metal detectors and scanners.

I was at O'Hare for an international flight last month. It took several hours to reach security and I was pressed shoulder to shoulder with a large family of Turks.

I wonder if it'd ever be possible to fight tsa related stuff as an invasion of privacy in courts. i mean I'm sure people have already tried and the defense is mostly "well you don't havvvvvveeee to fly" but honestly that seems like kind of a copout because there really isn't any other efficient long distance transportation in the US. Like I guess that's a reasonable argument for personal travel but what about for work or even medical reasons.

Every time I consider flying somewhere on vacation I always pause and think how much flying sucks. Then I just cruise, drive, or take the train somewhere. Thank you, thread, for convincing me to stay on the ground for another year.

great, i'm flying from o'hare to munich tomorrow. unfortunately, lufthansa flights leave out of terminal 1 (united), so i have to go through that lovely tsa line. it's not as lovely as the terminal 2/3 line but not as quick as the international one. o'hare is such a third world pit compared to munich's airport. krauts actually go there not to fly but for shopping and its christmas market. anyway, it will be worth it 48 hours from now when i am drinking a beer in the english garden, watching the fraus jog by and think of chinatown dodging bullets on el cajon.

Unfortunately OHare is the only international airport in the region worth a crap in terms of connections. Still probably better off flying out of Milwaukee to Newark or something.
