And all of his moves are like mechanized versions of his old stuff. Like the tornado is his b from smash, he has electrical shockwaves with his Glactalighsabre, and so on. That's pretty rad.

So I was watching your first run of episode six. They did make an nfc reader that's compatible with old 3DSes if you want to mess around with the other amiibo powers. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/nintendo-nfc-reader-writer-for-nintendo-3ds-multi/4288800.p?id=1219740801809&skuId=4288800

I saw! Ordered one, when it gets here we'll definitely mess around with it. Gonna see about snagging the other amiibo (amiibos? amiibi?) soon too, wanna check all four of them out! And for those who haven't seen this week's episodes yet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ur4AUddN5CE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJx0EU2Mhvw I probably won't post them here, but this week we're double-posting the LOST EPISODES, the original Parts 6 - 10, recovered from an SD card amidst all the laptop chaos.

I want to apologize for all the double-episode posting. Got assigned a huge, very sudden project at work, and it's been somewhat all-consuming during the day, and by the time I get home if I'm not actively recording or editing, I'm passing out to a YourMovieSucks review or a Good Mythical Morning video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyahrnqMqwU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euVjy4Rvaj0 Our first encounter with the Holo Defense API is also online now! I like that interaction WAY WAY more than the one that originally went up, and I'm happy as hell the footage was found. Also, ordered the other three amiibos, so when all of that arrives, we'll be sure to mess around with the four of them with the 3DS hookup! Hopefully it's before we finish the game, but with (at least) the next two levels ahead of us, I think we've got plenty of time.

Qbby is from BoxBoy!, a puzzle platformer made by HAL. It also had a sequel, BoxBoxBoy!.

I woulda tried to just unscrew that part just out of frustration, that's prob what HAL was counting on.

Grapplejack posted:Man this game is a lot longer than I thought it was. Very happy about that! I was worried it was gonna be pretty short, judging by the size of the world map. Sounds like the main game has 7 worlds, definitely cool with that. Dr. Fetus posted:Qbby is from BoxBoy!, a puzzle platformer made by HAL. It also had a sequel, BoxBoxBoy!. Aha, I knew it! BoxBoxBoy sounds familiar, too -- I do remember seeing a bunch of ads for that not long ago. SSNeoman posted:I woulda tried to just unscrew that part just out of frustration, that's prob what HAL was counting on. Hahaha, yeah that was definitely a possibility too. I think if the 3D mode is on, it'd probably stand out a little more that you are actually unscrewing it. Now, let us move onto the Access Ark, and get our hands on some sweet, sweet artwork. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ug94YcfWKv0

Well, I mean, the first letter of the current six worlds spell out PROGRA, so I'm not saying you're wrong, but remember how long world 8 of Adventure was. It's also super obvious what's going on if you're keeping up to date on code cubes

Very true (and yeah, I was gonna wait until we hit the last level to talk about the "PROGRAM" thing -- Kirby games love doing that).

Please kill off Kirby so he can try out some other powers - such as finding out if raygun is a new power or just beam. Your love for mirror is impeding your ability to show everything this game has to offer.

SSNeoman posted:I guess Coily Rattler takes too many resources to use it as part of the stage. Actually, Coily Rattler has a grab attack, and programming in a specific interaction with the Robobot Armor for what would be intended to be a very short fight probably wasn't something HAL wanted to bother with.

Ohhhhh, that makes sense. I don't think we saw that in the first battle with the Holo Defense API, but that sounds pretty accurate. Would have been neat, but that's a lot of extra legwork for a single interaction with an "orange cone" version of a boss phase.

I've only played a few Kirby games (Nightmare in Dream Land, Squeak Squad, Triple Deluxe, Robobot), but Tenga Toppa Kirby Lagann was easily the best thing I've ever seen in one of these games.

In the main Kirby games since Returns to Dreamland, Kirby has built in damage scaling, meaning that he takes less damage the lower his HP gets, which is why you kept surviving all those hits you thought would kill you. The odds in the more recent Kirby games are really stacked in the player's favor. Spitting out stars does kill bosses faster in the Dark Matter trilogy, mainly because the powers in those games were more meant for puzzle solving than actual combat. But in the more recent games, that's no longer the case. While star bullets do deal a good chunk of damage (In PR, they deal 50 damage if you're standing still, and 57 when you dash when spitting one out), you have to wait around for stars to even appear. But powers tend to deal less damage overall, but can be used to attack the boss anytime. Though the fights are definitely designed around Kirby having no powers when coming into the fight. It's best seen with Holo Defense API, which becomes an entirely different fight when you can't just skip the attack patterns through bursting down their HP.

The final two EX levels are more or less before the final level, and getting all their code cubes unlock the power museum. Getting 100%, which involves beating everything, including Metaknightmare mode unlocks a very very japanese cutscene. As far as the HAL room, there are three of them

Nice! We had actually played a little of that back in 2011 but wound up stopping because we were... pretty horrible about follow-through back then. Looking forward to it when we get to it later this year! As for this game, now it's time to screw around with the neat bonuses. First up, amiibo support! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmDv1QQXMnA

So... I'll be honest, the amiibo perks were neat, but I was hoping for something maybe a little bit more out of it. Double bummed that the Halberd bit turned out to be bunk, I was looking forward to that most of all, to be honest. Yes, you can get health from it, but still. Anyway, we're checking out the minigames now, and John's starting us off with Kirby 3D Rumble! It's based on the beta for an unreleased 3D Kirby game meant for the GameCube, and while it's very short, it shows some promise. I would have liked if they stretched it out to 5 or 7 stages, maybe did a little homage to one of the first three games, but I'm cool with this nonetheless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3nncfLdJiQ
