The LS motors are far better stock for stock, and have features you flat out can't get on gen 1/2 motors. (Don't the LS have 6 bolt mains, compared to 4 max on most/all the older motors?) E HOW THE DICK DID I FORGET ABOUT NADER? I mean, his overblown horse poo poo did lead to actual improvements in car safety and whatnot, but that's still the most obvious answer in retrospect. Except the truck versions of the LS motors, which are iron but otherwise the same design. The bellhousing pattern is the same, the crank/main bearings are the same, and maybe some other similarities? Still, I'd be interested in knowing how many people answered "SBC" when they meant "LSx, but that older stuff is cool too." What about the gen5 LTx? Isn't that just an evolution of the LSx? It's also a SBC. Did those SBC answers call out gen1 SBC? I know it's MrChips' power to be able to arbitrarily group answers, I'm just sure that I would have answered "SBC," meaning all generations of the design including (and especially) the LSx.

I did the same (apparently) for the ACVW engine family. However, the real worst engine ever is the 78-85 Cadillac diesel. Cadillac took the first swing at the life of diesel engines in America. VW merely delivered the final blow.
