After beating the Danes in the latest Dano-Swedish war, winning 4-3 on aggregate, Sweden joins Iceland as one of the two Nordic countries to enter the 2016 Euro. Coached by Erik Hamrén (being replaced by Janne Andersson after the summer), Sweden plays a standard 4-4-2. Long known for tactic defensive play, the Swedish team under Hamrén has failed to impress swedish media and many has called for his leave. After his start 2009, replacing Lars Lagerbäck (now in the Euro with Iceland), Hamrén wanted to change the way Sweden played and develop a more mediterranean style. This has of course not happened. Here are the group and matches for the team. The first match is crucial for the rest of the group stage, as both Italy and Belgium can be seen as favorites for the group. Here are some players to look at if you choose to follow the team. Andreas Isaksson, 34 GOALKEEPER Kasımpaşa SK A veteran with 128 matches for the national team. Good precence and still a decent shot stopper, sadly as soon as he needs to do something creative with the ball his mind shuts down. Martin Olsson, 28 DEFENDER Norwich City FC Known by Premier League followers of the forum, Olsson can be seen at the left side of the field mostly on offensive journeys. Has good spirit but is tactically a bit dumb. Oscar Hiljemark, 23 MIDFIELDER US Palermo Enjoyed a decent season for Palermo after having a international breakthrough in the U21 2015 tournament. John Guidetti, 24 FORWARD Celta de Vigo A mentally challenged man with great morale, he will most likely not start but you will see him one way or the other. Zlatan Ibrahimović, 34 FORWARD Paris Saint-Germain FC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzvQCbdAIZQ&t=45s Other players not mentioned but not forgotten: Viktor Nilsson Lindelöf, 21 DEFENDER SL Benfica Played in the Europa League and could be a transfer target for bigger clubs. One to look out for but it is not certain that he starts. Sebastian Larsson, 30 MIDFIELDER Sunderland AFC 82 matches for the national team, shares tournament experience with midfielder collegue Kim Källström. Oscar Lewicki, 23 MIDFIELDER Malmö FF Joined Bayern Munich youth setup in 2008 and moved back to Sweden to get more first team matches. Could get a breakthrough in the tournament. Marcus Berg, 29 FORWARD Panathinaikos FC Started next to Zlatan in the play off against Denmark and will likely do so in the summer. saihttam fucked around with this message at 12:45 on May 25, 2016 |

If only Zlatan was 10 years younger we might actually become a decent football team someday.

Olsson pisses me off. Where good balls go to die. Edit, he improved immensely in the 2nd half. MRLOLAST fucked around with this message at 18:57 on Jun 13, 2016 |

Pretty sure Sweden will be a lot better vs Italy, they improved a lot in the 2nd half and can build on that. The old guys needs to hang it up after this (not Zlatan) but Kallstrom and Larsson. Also vs Italy , Zlatan will see all his old buddies in the backline and they will be sad to see him again. So I hope for a win vs Italy (or a draw could still be good for 3rd in the group).

Källström and Isaksson has announced this is their last tournament. Not sure if they mean later qualifiers as well.

If the Belgians play the same way and the Swedish defense can emulate what the Italians did right well enough then Sweden could beat Belgium. Not too likely but certainly possible.
