In the 20thncentury, shaming people for all forms of overconsumption slowly morphed into just shaming people for eating too much food, which was more friendly to capitalism and the growing consumer culture. Being fat became a moral issue and not just a health or aesthetic one. This is the wrong approach. Fatness should be considered a health issue first and an aesthetic issue second.
