Why won't they do a Second Chance season with a lot of notable personalities from the past that didn;t win? That would be interesting as hell, imo.

Ew, the coaches suggested in that linked article are horrible. 4 people whose games were either really boring (Derrick) or really lovely (Aubrey, Vanessa, Ian). If that's true, it's shaping up to be a poo poo season already, great.

I think Saboteur has to be the worst one. Didn't accomplish much, and was correctly identified and evicted first or second.

Ian played a good game I don't the backlash against him. Yes he got a super bitter jury but honestly the fact is he was a weirdo that should have been cut and talked everyone into letting him stay.

Yeah, the only coach I don't understand/disagree with is Audrey, and something must have gone pretty drat wrong for production for that to have happened. Derrick was only boring because he was playing with dummies (and quickly axed people as soon as they figured him out, like Nicole). Vanessa is fine as long as she doesn't send her team into chronic mental breakdowns, and Ian is competent at worst. He arguably won because bitter jury, but I have to imagine he learned a thing or two from being in the house with Dan Gheesling for so long.

I just finished a 3 day BB14 rewatch yesterday due to being laid up for back surgery and I have to say Ian's game was mediocre at best. He skated by due to a couple of clutch PoV wins and due to some big personalities clashing and him being by the wayside. He absolutely won by virtue of the bitterest bitter jury of all time but if it weren't for Dan and Boogie he'd have been hosed. He was marked for death on week 1 and was only saved because Boogie felt bad for the kid (and then was screwed by him).

Dan, Danielle, Frank, hell even Shane played better games than him socially and would have all beaten him (Dan, with a sane jury). He's just some nerd hero because he's the superfan who won but we're he on a season without sharks like Boogie and Dan he'd probably have been toast. BB17 Steve even had more charisma than Ian.

And hey, since Dan was brought up and I always enjoy this story I once again say that the only reason I'm here and obsessed is because one night I was bored and randomly turned on Big Brother After Dark and was completely captivated watching Dan run around like a completely deranged Bond villain spinning plates and mind loving people. He may have done too much damage to that jury to win but man, did he run a tour de force of gaming to get there.

Yer Burnt posted:

I do remember being annoyed and hating her a lot, but she seemed to be portrayed as the protagonist/hero for most of the season until the end when she became too much. When I look back on her, I remember her as a good strategist first and then the emotional manipulation. The rest of her season were useless as game players, so without her the season would've been boring.

It was a pretty accurate edit, all things considered (if I remember right that season was impossible to edit since it was so dense with gaming and general insanity). Vanessa really did start out as the "hero" as one of Audrey's victims and one of the minority against the big house alliance and she only gradually became the villain as the game drove her insane and her friends started to realize she had been double dealing them.

And honestly, I'm a big fan of last season's cast. Shelly had good game instincts that were constantly being shut down by her idiot showmance. Her idiot showmance whose name I can't remember was a scary natural liar and social gamer but seemed convinced that the point of the game was to make and break as many deals and alliances as possible. Austin was a good gamer and did a lot of the key gaming with Vanessa as the closest thing to a true partner she had but he also was a giant idiot who constantly shot himself in the foot. Liz was an underrated player who probably deserves more credit for navigating the utter dysfunction of a showmance, a twin twist sister who hated her showmance, and a crazy person who had her sister totally brainwashed. Even the leftovers all had some pretty solid game skills. Meg seemed like a master gamer the first few weeks before she seemed to just give up and make it summer camp, the smoker had good instincts but could never stop watching the game enough to play it, James had a pretty shockingly great social game that just kept getting handcuffed by his terrible allies, and D'Avonne had some scary good instincts but just didn't know how to back down from a confrontation.

All in all I think BB17 had a cast of players who probably could have all been really good if Audrey hadn't set the pace for them all to go insane early on. But Audrey did drive them insane, Vanessa drove them crazier, and that clique whose name I forgot just stopped playing in Week 3.

SweetJahasus posted:

Oh absolutely. Steve played UTR well and actually gamed.

I thought Steve benefitted heavily from Vanessa (and to a lesser extent Austin) carrying him deep into the game and the fact that the other side of the house really resented the Twin Twist and gave Liz no respect. And really he was utterly clueless until about halfway through the season. But I also think he did the best he could do with an insane house who wouldn't talk to him and made the right moves at the end to win. So credit to him.

The siblings of BB 16's Cody and BB 17's Vanessa will be playing. Looks like there are still four more spots left, returning players as coaches?

The rumored lineup for coaches which appear to match the spoilers for this cast are James, Day, Nicole and Frank.

I believe that would be BB 17's James and Da'Vonnne, along with BB 16 Nicole and BB 14 Frank. I mean I like those returnees, but again, why bother with this half-measures all stars poo poo? If you're saving that until BB 20, why not do all newbies until then?
