Graphic design and web dev is pretty competitive for entry level positions. You need to network a lot and be well connected to get in, at least as far as I can tell. Mobile dev is in big demand tho and they seem to like to hire artsy people. I've heard trade work in the us is a good route. I apprenticed under a watchmaker for a bit and the money was decent. I also happened to really like the work.
