Non plaudite modo pecuniam jacite.

This seies of movies is intended to chronicle hauntings that were investigated by these two con artists: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_and_Lorraine_Warren They took mundane poo poo that could have been pretty much anything when viewed skeptically and hyped it up. The movies then hype their accounts up 10x.

I'll be seeing it when it comes out, natch.

The Skeptic podcast Monster Talk did a good interview with Ray Garton. He was the guy who was hired by Ed & Lorraine Warren to write the "true story" that eventually went on to be adapted into the film The Haunting in Connecticut. If you're interested in learning about just how completely full of poo poo they were, it's a good listen.

It Follows was a good slow burn horror. It was creepy instead of the jump scares that most horror movies resort to.

You should watch It Follows. I really liked it. It was refreshing in that it wasn't full of jump scares and CGI. It reminded me of the great older horror films like Rosemary's Baby and The Omen.

why is that one house haunted instead of like every house in England?

all the buildings over there are 1000+ years old so all the houses probably had murders and suicides and witches burned at the stake all over them throughout history. The place should be crawling with ghosts and haunted houses

every house in england is haunted, it's just that most of the ghosts are english so they are simply really passive aggressive pussy ghosts so all they do is tut in a disapproving manner and periodically comment on the weather.

Someone on the internet said the first one was good and now two hours of my precious life have been siphoned into the Abyss, utterly unlived. And on this very night, some poor soul in this very thread will be the next victim when the internet tells them to watch It Follows, and they suddenly find themselves two hours closer to their inevitable death for no good reason.

Before this thread is through, I have little doubt someone evil bastard will pull the same trick on another unsuspecting victim by recommending The Babadook. Save yourselves before it's too late, Goon. Never trust the internet.

Yeah. I'm just bitter because I cruised some "Recommend me a good horror movie" thread and made a list if like eight or nine movies. It Follows and The Babadook were the most highly recommended. Out of the whole list every goddamn movie was garbage except for It Follows, and that just barely rated as "kinda watchable" maybe.

*Oh, except for Housebound. But that was more a People Under the Stairs style comedy than actual horror.

If you stay away form CD and can spot the contrarian goons, SA isn't too bad a place to get a feel for whether or not a movie is worth your time. But for some reason goons seem totally incapable of spotting a competent horror film.

i disagree, a lot of the best horror movies are more about great suspense than genre conventions. like rosemarys baby or wicker man.

then again i don't really feel the need to categorize it, if it's not horror then it's not. still a movie most horror fans would like i'd say.

same goes for bone tomahawk.

It's nuts how no one seems to be able to crack that code anymore. In drat near all modern horror you'll get 20 minutes up front that are nerve wracking as poo poo because "Something" seems like it's about to happen, with little to no payoff. Even the first conjuring (if you ignore that it's a "true story" by a couple of scammers) manage to build some decent tension. But then in every movie they hit the half hour mark and start rubbing your face in lovely CGI or bad wire effects of teen girls getting drug about by ghosts.

You'd think "Keep building the tension for 90 minutes, and don't over explain things" would be an easy formula to remember.
