PROLOGUE: WELL WISHERS

Adventurers,
Dorn Galanodel, your princess Esmerelda,
Gregor Selan, your royal twin princess Pinkle Toes,
Birel Inoxios, your princess Her Grace Onea Lledas Emerania the Stalwart,
Dihadn Nailo, your prince His Lordhorse Sir Quincy Down of the Saintly Apples, and
Gavin Redgrave, your royal twin prince High Horse.

You are escorting Queen Aruglia and King Pizzoza in your journey to find a way to break the century curse upon the royal bloodline of Futcar kingdom laid upon them twenty years ago by a circle of hooded sorcerers who demanded to be wed to all the princes and princesses and were denied. A revolt happened soon after, as none of the subjects believed that the goblins and horses could possibly be their beloved rulers. With what little of the treasury they could carry from the castle vault before they escaped through the secret passage, they purchased the cart and tack necessary for them to be the mules and mounts for whatever adventurers might believe their story and undertake a quest to return them to normal. Those adventurers are you.

The first lead you've found has led you to the Oasis of Aushi , a desert town where a powerful artifact, the Antlion Pearl, rumored to be able to heal any ailment, is kept by one of the identical Octuplet Elders, who stand in a circle on a hill and dispense wisdom in exchange for sustenance. They have agreed to grant you access to the Pearl in exchange for rescuing the town youths, who have undertaken the coming of age ritual journey to the Syri Tower, in which every year the Great Stone Elevator must be raised in order to refill the oasis pool, now dangerously low. They have not returned and everyone fears the worst. Were they devoured by a Sand Worm? or encased in glass by a Dragon? or taken hostage by Bandits?

You all find firsthand another possibility: lost in a sandstorm. Huddled in the lee of the cart, things of course get worse. The thunk of debris striking wood reveals its malicious origin when an arrowhead pokes through the solid wood wheel that was your shelter. It's been fired downwind, and more are soon to come. Fortunately, for an instant the visibility improves enough to make out the silhouettes of five bandits with shortbows atop a shifting dune, in a spread out line formation 25 feet away. What do you do?

Don't bother reproducing your sheets or linking to them, I did it in this post ALL FOR YOU. Your wards are all riding horses or goblins who hide from all combat, and will never be attacked or killed, only captured.

We're doing THEATER OF THE MIND combat, but since this is the tutorial battle you're just starting off in a ball and mashing two sides against each other.

ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS: Ranged or area attacks fired upwind from low ground have disadvantage. Incapacitated creatures roll down the dune and risk being buried in sand.

SET YOUR AI, and take your turn during this AUTOMATIC PAUSE that happens at the start of every decision point if you want, and I'll start RUNNING THE NUMBERS. Every good actual roleplay thing you do (banter, talking to the enemy or your horses and goblins) increases the (125, this time) XP reward by 50% per person because gently caress level 1.

With a hearty laugh, Gavin hops down from Lord High Horse (he forgot the royal's name so he gave the horse a new one) and flips his hair out of his eyes. "The time has come, and so have I. We're in a rush; step aside or die. drat, that sounded much cooler in my head. Shouldn't have tried to rhyme." Shrugging, he grabs his rod from his belt, twirls it between his fingers, and lets loose a barrage of eldritch blasts.

Gregor Selan

Gregor's stomach drops as he sees the bandits approach. Being completely new to this adventuring thing, he'd never actually intentionally hurt anyone, outside of a couple grade school tuffles. "Bandits!!" he cries as he feels his muscles tense up, the adrenaline surging through his body. Fight or flight is kicking in, and fortunately for boht himself and his fellow adventurers, he'd steeled himself enough beforehand to make sure that his choice was the former. He hops off Princess Pinkletoes and prepares to do what he's used to: flinging fire.

He turns to the princess Esmerelda, horse that she may be, and with a small bow says "wait here my lady." He turns toward the bandits, drawing his sword and striding forth to strike them down.

"Hail bandits! Surrender and you shall be given mercy. If you so choose to put up a fight you will regret it." He shouts as he advances upon the bandits.

Are you in or are you out?
Gavin, your eldritch blast comes from his fingers to the bandit on the far right, then Gregor, your slower firebolt intersects with it in the bandit's chest. They collapse and roll down the foot of the hill to your cart, where you all can smell smouldering wool and flesh being blown to you from upwind.

Dorn rushes up the dune to the bandit on the left, who draws a scimitar and clashes with him for a few seconds before being slashed across the chest. The bandit then disengages back to the nearby peak of the dune and leaps over it, breaking line of sight.

The right bandit's reply to Birel's magic-imbued insult about their illiteracy is to run well out of range of Dorn and fire an arrow at Gregor, which sticks in the middle of his chest. 2 inches to his left and it would have been a cupid shot.

However, Dihadn's arrow hits the right bandit in the exact same spot. An eye for an eye indeed.

The final, left bandit likewise runs just out of range of another charge from Dorn and fires an arrow upon the wounded Gregor... and strikes him down. You are incapacitated and prone.

Are you in or are you out?
Gavin, you fire an eldritch blast at the last unwounded bandit and blood soaks through the cloth covering their mouth. You all hear a call for retreat and answers in the affirmative.

You, Gregor, feels your arrow wound bleeding more and more, but then Queen Aruglia and King Pizzoza come to your aid with bandages and firm hands. They stop the bleeding and reassure you that the arrow wound is not too deep, and it will be able to be removed in a mere hour.

Dorn, you chase the bandit you wounded over the dune, and see them skiing down to the bottom, but a fifth bandit is lying in wait, ready to make it less easy for you. A net hidden in the sand tangles your feet and you fall hard, crumpling into a side roll that comes to a stop at the foot of the wounded bandit. One of them tangles you in the net and the other shoots you with an arrow, then they flee and leave you for dead. Prone and entangled, you begin to be buried in sand!

The magic in your obscenities, Birel, again fail to take hold of the weakened, fleeing bandit, who makes their own rude gesture back at you just as they flee over the dune.

Dihadn, it comes down to you and the last bandit to make their escape. Your rapier clashes with their scimitar and you quickly overwhelm them with your rapid, precise strikes. They fall, too weak to fight, and you easily hurdle them as they roll down next to their fallen ally. But what of Dorn?

You burst the net and dig out of the sand before anyone comes to rescue you, and rejoin them covered in dust and pieces of net.

A few minutes later the dust begins to clear enough that you all can see the tower looming over the dunes. It and the town are equidistant, some hours away what do you do?

Dorn is at 4hp, Gregor will be at 1hp in an hour. Pick a destination and Pick an initial to represent your rank and adjacency in the marching order/formation. If you wish to be engaged/adjacent to someone put your initial in the same cell as theirs.

Once the group is ready to continue he takes his spot in the front, "Shall we continue on to the tower?"
