I think it's really loving sad when people complain about singing the national anthem like it's loving marching in a torchlit swastika and shouting "Sig Heil!"

It's a nice song where we acknowledge the country we're in and how nice it is ohhh, watch out, the secret police will come fort you if you don't sing it.

Hmm, that doesn't sound at all like what I said, but cheers mate, you've got an active imagination and that's worth a lot these days!

Apparently not. Are you forced to sing the national anthem there? Or are you confusing the national anthem with the Pledge of Allegiance (a thing which is also optional, btw)?

Calling the pledge of allegiance optional when there are very real repercussions (of varying degrees amongst the students and teachers) for almost any student not saying it is incredibly disingenuous and you have to know that.

Same, except marines. Used to ride in a gunner's nest around Fallujah and Ramadi back in '08 with a glow belt strapped around my kevlar, just praying for Juba to shoot me; never happened.

Cheers mate? Either you're foreign, and therefore your taco opinion doesn't count OR you're an American who watches soccer in which case your dad is ashamed of you.

Yeah everyone will think you're a weirdo spaz, and they'd be 100% right. Congratulations on being too smart and nonconformist to surrender your will to the evil flag. When the oppressive US government institutes a universal draft they'll come for you and you'll smugly point out that you never recited the pledge as a child, and they'll grudgingly be forced to leave you alone. Looks like you really stuck it to 'em, champ.

I like saying the pledge. It fills me with warm pride. I feel a fuzzy feeling. It starts at my chest, kind of like a tingling, or a funny feeling like my chest and left arm are both falling asleep or something. Then, once I get to the "for which it stands" part, my pants always get a little tight, if you know what I mean, which makes it even harder to stay focused. The catharsis I feel at the "and justice for all" part is second only to the spreading warmth below my belt.

i think i made my bed like 5 times throughout all my training. i made it the first night and 4 more times when it got flipped over by NCOs

you sleep on top of your perfectly made bed in your sleeping bag. then you only need to smooth the top when you get up

Join the Air Force, be anything but security forces, get out in four years and have a better resume and free college money. Seriously, if you aren't security forces, you can go the whole four years and only be any were near a rifle in basic.

Also lol if you stay up late to write the essays the DIs give you instead of just getting a full night's sleep and doing like 15 minutes of punishment pushups the next day.

The military removes people inclined to be Marines from normal society at the age when they're most physically and sexually aggressive, puts them in a structured and monitored environment, and keeps many of them stationed overseas and away from regular U.S. citizens

I call that a pretty big benefit to society myself
