:gaben: Welcome to the Steam (and other distribution platforms) Summer Sale of 2016 Thread. The "leaks" *wink wink* tell us it should start tomorrow so on June 23rd and you are a good person.

Pro-click: http://store.steampowered.com/ or better use http://gabegaming.com/, handsome.

:siren: Join our #steamgoons IRC channel!. gorgeous :siren:

:gaben: Other distribution services. Anyway, gently caress Steam Sale brother because there are better deals on:
  • Amazon.com used to have a fantastic Digital PC Downloads section with great deals (rip Tony), maybe it'll happen again?
  • Direct2Drive has a summer sale going right now.
  • Greenman Gaming sometimes just has the best deals and often offers a discount code that additionally shaves off 15-25% from the sale price.
  • Nuuvem is a Brazilian site but has already made a splash. Recently they started to lock up the regions so some titles may be available but many not.
  • Gamers Gate offers some cool daily deals but nothing too epic UNTIL they gently caress up the prices. $20 Bethesda's Catalogue anyone? Haha, just kidding, Bethesda sucks.
  • Humble Bundle has a store. Always remember to check their regular and weekly bundles while you're there. You are doing great.
  • Bundle Stars also has a store. They have some good deals on often obscure titles that aren't a highlight anywhere else.
  • Gamefly offers standard deals but then there's this ONE game that is absolutely cheaper than anywhere else.
  • Groupees always has 2-3 bundles going on at the same time. Better check them before you drop money on an obscure indie game. Be nice to strangers.
  • Indie Gala has a store. It sucks. But hey, sometimes it doesn't!

:gaben: Actually Steam sucks so much that I don't even need Steam keys:
  • Good Old Games - GOG owns. Stay hydrated.
  • Origin is a good platform for cool people. It even does sales now, wow. It offers EA's big popular games that are not available on Steam: Battlefront, Battlefield, Fifa, NFS, SimCity, SimAnts, Sims, AntSims, SimSims, AntAnts.
  • Ubisoft Store offers Ubisoft games. Buying from them doesn't grant you a Steam key. AC:Syndicate is good. Be sure to use the same Uplay account on Steam games that require it. Otherwise you'll end up with 2 stupid accounts that can't be merged. Eat a vegetable every day.

:gaben: Just kidding, I still love Steam! Rules of sale:
  • :siren: This sale will have no daily deals. :siren: Only flesh deals this time where you buy a ton of games on the first day and you have nothing left for food like flesh. The super important classic advice "not to buy games if it's not a daily deal" is actually dumb and bad now. But you're actually good.
  • Put a set amount of money to your Steam wallet AND NO MORE*. For self-control, don't be an animal. *Unless you are from an area that gets screwed by regional pricing a lot (eg. Australia). Put that sweet cash in your paypal, and you'll be sending off cash to one of our many regional gifters in no time, with no fuss!
  • Consider buying games as gifts into your inventory instead of your library and only open them when you intend to play them pussy destroyer OR
  • Get refunds - Valve's VR technology put the advancement of the science into 5th gear and Steam has refunds now, wow. Remember not to play a game longer than 2 hours because that's the dumb requirement but other than that you can safely try out a game and then give the trash back. Goons will try scaring you that Steam will put you on an FBI list and you will have to wait 2 hours for card drops and blah blah blah and hey, they might be right! You are strong though and you'll get through this.
  • Organize 2 or 4 packs where possible my brother. It can often save you and your gamer brothers a good sum of cash.
  • There are usually tons of games discounted 75%+ that aren't mentioned on the main page. Go hunting you gaming hero.

:gaben: This year's metagame is ENTER GENERIC ADJECTIVE BEFORE STEAM CARDS which shockingly is the same metagame as last time.

They're Steam Cards™ (by the way, here's a cool Steam card site that will help you sell cards) - there are 11 regular and 11 foil types. You can buy them and sell them on the market if you want. Whatever, do one nice thing every day.[/list]

:gaben: Tips & Tricks:
  • Did you know we have an official Steam Goons IRC channel? If you want to talk about games, deals, find gifters, give out games or just chill out - come on over. We're active throughout the year. Just don't be a dickhead and don't beg for games and be yourself champion.
  • IsThereAnyDeal will e-mail you about deals on games from your wishlist when they hit prices you specifically set. It scans ALL distribution sites for those. This is an amazing service that will also make you spend all your money. Make friends.
  • Use Cheap Shark to find good deals and Steam Prices to find out where it's the cheapest!
  • Augment your Steam! Install Enhanced Steam: for Chrome, for Mozilla. Lmao Mozilla, you're a pretty cool guy so you're not using that crap.
  • "This might be a stupid question, but how do you get to the regular store screen?" -You can't. Big sales traditionally take over regular Steam until they're over.

budget yourself for a bunch of low end games to take your time, also join on the gift train once or twice sometimes you get lucky.

The only way to save yourself is unbookmark this thread, and the other steam thread, and go play cards for a week.. The sales.. the draw.. it's too much.

I usually play ARPGs with my brother on Skype while we shoot the poo poo and don't have to focus much; would we be better served buying Grim Dawn or Van Helsing FC? I get that GD is the better game, but it also sounds more hardcore and we've actually played VH #2 so I know it's good for that.

Then again, we also played Titan Quest back in the day and that worked out too.

Well many people are butthurt they made it so you have to authenticate any steam marketplace posting or you get a two week delay or something. If you're selling cards for penny shavings it's probably more trouble than it's worth

Sadly I still do it. That extra £6 I have in steam bucks is really going to pay off some day for having to hit 'ok' on my phone 100 or so times.

Blocking the "Visual Novel" "RPG Maker" tags made the discovery queue usable for me, I've never bought or played a visual novel game or a game made in RPG Maker but I've looked at over 1,000 games in the discovery queue and about 900 of them were visual novels made in RPG Maker. Thanks for pointing this out

I got money in my Steam wallet and a bad attitude, time to buy some games :clint:

Looking for some combination of these:

Arkham Knight (depends on how well it runs on my machine)
Dark Souls 2: SotFS
Darkest Dungeon
Far Cry 4
Invisible, Inc.
Life is Strange Episodes 2-5
Lightning Returns: FFXIII
MGSV
Pillars of Eternity
Pinball FX2 assorted tables
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

Also wondering what they're gonna do for their metagame this time around. The clicker thing last year was weird and dumb but it was kinda neat the way that people broke it over their knee with coordinated groups joining games and everything.
