Playing Cygnar tonight ( I'm assuming one of the Caines) and want to try Helyanna. How does this look? Slightly worried about lack of shield guard.

I considered a Phoenix over Hypnos but Ghost shot and the larger AOE felt useful. Worried the list is a tad pillow fisted though

I'd put manticore and daemon in "unplayable trash" tier, with Sphinx, Hydra, Hypnos and Phoenix in "situationally useful" tier, Banshee, Discordia, and Imperatus are all "universally useful" tier.

As for how many you need, it depends on if you want to run double Hydras with Kaelyssa or not, I'm going to assume no. And I'm also only talking about heavies here.

With all that said, you need:

Two magnetized Vyre jacks (with the parts to run Sphinx, Banshee, Hypnos, no doubles required)

Imperatus

Discordia (this can be magnetized to be disco/Hydra without a TON of trouble, bit I really prefer a dedicated disco as I run him in almost every list)

Phoenix (laughably skippable these days if you don't run Helynna or certain Rahn lists. Magnetizing between Phoenix and Disco is a world of hurt imo).

So a total of 5 unless you want double Hydra with Kae, in that case 6.

I tried Hypnos with Helyanna instead of the Phoenix and it got serious work done. The bigger AOE of the gun was useful and Ghost Shot won me the game. Downside is it's slightly slower than Phoenix but Rhythm of War helps with that. Another downside is lack of 2 inch melee.

I'm still trying to work out what Jacks she needs. Phoenix/Hypnos and Discordia feel like a definite. Feel like I need a melee beater with 2 inch melee as I ran 2 Manticores with her and having no Jacks with 2inch felt uncomfortable. Toying with Imperatus or even Hyperion. Just have to make sure I've got enough points for Sentinels +UA. They are amazing with her.

Helynna has a very arcable spell, the Chimera hits harder for a single attack, and the Chimera can disengage itself. The only thing Griffons are bringing her is pathfinder, imo, but I need to get it on the table to be sure.

Sure but do you think it warrants 2 arc nodes?

A bit different from my Mk2 Ossy list, having never played the Space Cricket before or the Electromancers. Usually the MHSF are my go to ranged unit with Ossyan but I'm rethinking it. List is designed to have some answer to stealth lists with the Thane and HRT plus a plethora of AOEs.

Played a game tonight against one of the better players in our area, who I've had lots of close games with in the past. He had Old witch with behemoth, winterguard infantry, joe, eiryss1, alton ashley, Gormon, Rheinholt, another couple solos, some khador mage guys, sharpshooters + sharpshooters solo...and I think that was pretty much it?

I played what I'm calling "What I threw together using the models I own" Helynna list:

Helynna
-Manticore
-Chimera
-Banshee
-Imperatus
Sentinels + UA + Soulless
Scyir
3x Arcanists
Eiryss2

Game got off to a decent start, despite it being yet another game against models that just murder my sentinels without caring about their armor. First round just consisted of me running forward, him moving up a bit and killing some sentinels with his snipers and shooting my jacks to not much good with behemoth(deceleration is good!). He had moved some stuff a bit too far forward, not taking full advantage of premeasuring, and my sentinels were able to charge Eiryss and the sniper solo, killing both, and running another to engage 3 of the sharpshooters. I was able to run the chimera forward to arc and devestation onto alton ashley, missing but killing him with the blast damage. Hurt Gormon and Rheinholt with it, but didn't kill either. I knocked behemoth down with the banshee and then disrupted it with Eiryss, meaning he couldn't shake the knockdown.

Old witch came up and killed a bunch of sentinels, freeing up the sharpshooters to finish off all but the UA and Scyir. He made a mistake during his maintanance phase and apparitioned behemoth slightly forward, then during its activation sacrificed movement and just shot a couple times at my jacks, again not doing much. He did a bunch of damage to the chimera and took out its generator and arc node with shooting from his winterguard and a solo. He also feated.

I feated and arced hand of destruction through the now functional chimera onto behemoth, as he accidently put him in charge range of the Banshee. Concentrated power then charge. Could only get my main sword to him, but exactly scrapped him. Imperatus killed a rocketeer to set 5 winterguard on fire with flame burst. Manticore just killed 3 winterguard. At this point he was pretty much on the ropes. And then I made a fatal mistake and used rhythm of war to move my warjacks up further, which also ended up spreading them out more. I provided just enough of a hole for scrapjack to run through and just get close enough that old witch could teleport close enough to my caster to be able to attack. He needed 7s to hit, and missed his first 2, so he started boosting to hit, and only killed me due to a couple real good damage rolls.

Nice report.

Ive only got one game in with Helyanna and was facing Cygnar with a fair amount of guns. I put Deflection up on first 2 turns and Feated second turn (I was first player). Armour 25 Sentinels take some killing. I think he took 1 out ( which was perfect to trigger Vengeance) before they clattered into his gun line.

I'm critical as hell about models, and for the larger stuff like jacks, beasts, or larger infantry it's not too bad. My biggest issues have been human sized resin plastic infantry (like the ones you'd get from the new 2 player sets) and the resin/metal combo kits. The plastic jacks take a little time to clean up but aren't bad at all in general.

Awesome looking. For the rest of your list, is it infantry, solos, or jacks? I'm having a hard time coming up with lists that aren't very stilted one way or the other in Ret. My journeyman list for Ret looks to only have a battle mage unit and electromancers for units and lots of jacks and solos. I can't help but feel like I need more infantry there somewhere.

Currently unbeaten with this list. It's really strong into shooting. Even a Ossrum and Earthbreaker list barely dented it last night.

Do you ever feel like only having one proper unit puts you at a disadvantage? Maybe it's that I'm coming over from Skorne (and maybe partially that I was dumb and bought a bunch of units early) but I feel naked without 2-3 units.

In Mk2 I would have (long time Ret player) but not so far in Mk3.

The Sentinels are incredibly durable, usually with Deflection up and Kinetic Field from Discordia, you have them moving forward at armour 21. Then with their mini feat and Helyanna feating they are at Arm 27 vs shooting, theres very little thats going through that. In fact soemtimes its almost too good as you then cant trigger Vengeance as nothing dies. In all the games Ive played, the only time Ive lost more than half my Sentinels has been Vs Stalker Deathstriders with the auto 1 damage they pull off. Last night Vs Ossrum, I was up against the Earthbreaker, 5 Gunbunnies and a Driller, and the only casualties I lost all game were 5 Sentinels to melee from the Horgenhold Forge Guard and a Driller, and a Chimera from shooting that I had stupidly thrown away to pull off an ill advised Obliteration. My 3 heavies were barely scratched. By the time I had assassinated his caster with a charge from my Sentinels, he had a half wrecked Earthbreaker, no jacks, and a few support solos.

Here's the list I was using. I'm considering dropping the 2 Manticores and 2 MHaS to swap in Phoenix and Banshee. Feel like I need a arc node to move Refuge about mainly between Disco and Eiryss. Downside of this is 2 Manticores provide a lot of covering fire for dealing with higher Def Low arm infantry. This is paired with a Helyanna Sentinel Heavy Jack brick.

This is hearsay so don't take it as gospel but I heard that PP did not do a reprint of their full range before MK3. I have heard many conspiracy theories about why they didnt do a reprint but they're all very "PP is turning into GW!" and not worth repeating.

I can only speak for the UK but the issue seems to be the importers can't get the new cards to go with their current stock of models. When my LGS made an order they were told some items were unavailable but when they stipulated they were happy to receive the models without the mk3 cards the order was supplied
