floating 26" off da ground. BURR!
So I love music! A few years ago I moved from a suburb back into the city proper, a buddy put me onto a band, and then I saw it for the first time ever:

A Local Band I Loved.

My name is Boywhiz88! I live in the Twin Cities and I've learned to love what's local!

What's local? Smaller than indie, bigger than you and your buddies! I want to know about the bands you have in your town that are good enough to maybe be sent around the country!

Why? Because I fell in love with a band after seeing a bigger act. And I realized, SomethingAwful and more specifically NMD have a lot of goons with opinions, etc.

This is NMD and not PYF because it's not PYF. Post your local bands, explain why you like them, debate with people if you think a band is not good, I don't care... NO LISTS.

So, from my part in the Twin Cities:

Twin Cities
Frankie Teardrop: https://sodapopfrankie.bandcamp.com/
This is the band that is the genesis of my passion. They unfortunately just split up but I can't imagine not listening to this until my ears rot. It's punk, garage, and a fair amount of passion. One of the things I really dig/dug about this band was that they were all really gracious.
Lines: https://sodapopfrankie.bandcamp.com/track/lines This song is a rocker! I think this is possibly what hooked me when I saw them the first time
Pizza Lifestyle: https://sodapopfrankie.bandcamp.com/track/pizza-lyfestyle Never saw Pizza Lifestyle live, but I related to this right away. Broke guy and all he has and can give is a frozen pizza.
Convertible/Cig Death: https://sodapopfrankie.bandcamp.com/track/convertible-cig-death This is from the last Frankie release. I always liked it live because it was quick (and I love quick punk songs), but this became a quick favorite when I finally heard the studio version. The riff and then the whole fuzz feeling, so good. Not to mention it leads into the next song (on the album, not my list) really well
End of Summertime Blues: https://sodapopfrankie.bandcamp.com/track/end-of-summertime-blues This song is unrelenting. It was released as a single for something that never happened, I think? Frankie had a lot of great ideas. This was the perfect end of summer song to me and I haven't had a "summer" in years.
Waiting For You:https://sodapopfrankie.bandcamp.com/track/waiting-for-you The last Frankie song we will all possibly ever get. I love Frankie's voice in this. Its melody and the "ooh's". As a guy who knew this was the last one, I may admit I'm overstating things, but I think it's a rocking song.

Teenage Moods: https://teenagemoods.bandcamp.com/
After Frankie, I got into the Teenage Moods. Within 3 months, I had a tattoo for them put on me on my own accord because they just loving ROCK. Their lead, Gordon, describes them as "flower punk" in a lot of the local event descriptions on Facebook.... and he's right. They're hippy meet punk! It's not overbearing LOVE LOVE LOVE, and it's never boring, but it's a lot of PMA!
Sugar Band:https://teenagemoods.bandcamp.com/track/sugar-band-2 A song that does a good job of defining their sound. Fast! Positive! Sweet!
Hardship Eyeshttps://teenagemoods.bandcamp.com/track/hardship-eyes-2 They also do great heavy songs. I love Gordon's voice on this song. He gives off this feeling of "this is all I got but this is all i have." It's a blast live. Screaming that hook.
Heavy Bunny: https://teenagemoods.bandcamp.com/track/heavy-bunny This is from their "acoustic" album. Heavy Bunny is great in its original form, but there's something about this version. I think it's the scaling, IDK, keyboard or maybe a flute? I've never asked them. But you hit that hook and all of a sudden it blows up!
Mood Ring: https://teenagemoods.bandcamp.com/track/mood-ring As I mentioned earlier "flower punk" this is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE. Flowerful subject but some real stuff. I always loved Gordy's commitment to the theme.
You Make Stars : https://teenagemoods.bandcamp.com/track/you-make-stars This is one of my favorite love songs of all time. I've had this feeling a few times in my life and it was always right
Manic Again: https://teenagemoods.bandcamp.com/track/manic-again-2 It was hard picking something off of Rosebuds. This album was the soundtrack to my introduction to more of the Twin Cities scene. I would go to shows for the Moods and I would get exposed to so many talented peeps! This was always a great song, no matter when it would land in the night. First band? Second band? Last band? The Moods were always good at getting manic again (see what I did there)

TONGUE PARTY: https://tongueparty.bandcamp.com/releases I checked this band out because the Twin Cities has a great underground newsgroup. These were guys originally from Wisconsin. They had a band called "BONGONYA." As a guy who will admit he was interested that the members of "BONGONYA" made "Tongue Party." INSTANT. INSANE. LOVE. 7 songs, less than 20 minutes. They all rip, they appeal to the stoner punk in me, and they never get old. The members are INSANELY nice and SUPER PASSIONATE. The song Richard Flair has become kind of a thing at the shows they play because of the "WOO" and how loving hard it goes.
Richard Flair: https://tongueparty.bandcamp.com/track/richard-flair SEE ABOVE
Like a Chump: https://tongueparty.bandcamp.com/track/like-a-chump The first track to their album, and it just pulled me deeper.

I look forward to a Tongue Party tattoo on my knee later in the year.

Bands That Aren't Twin Cities
Fire Retarded: https://fireretarded.bandcamp.com/ Madison, WI So I had a night where I met The Hussy, another Madison band like Fire Retarded. They in fact share members and as far as I know everyone are just members of their friend's bands in Madison. Slight wink-wink at The Hussy folks but seriously what the gently caress. OH AND THIS IS A FACE MELTING RECORD. "Overrated Kayak" isn't, and a pretty great finale to an introduction to these guys.
High Horse: https://fireretarded.bandcamp.com/track/high-horse-3 Don't you want to just slam your face into a surface right now? It's good old rock and roll meets SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH THESE IDIOTS.

The Hussy: https://thehussy.bandcamp.com/ Madison, WI Bobby and Heather Hussy probably don't need to be introduced the members of Madison's scene, but to the rest of us. Well..... it's prolific. As a duo, Heather and Bobby just put out a ton of rocking loving poo poo over the years. In the last year, they've enlisted Tyler from Fire Retarded. And are continuing to make dope music. The Hussy is a group I respect but I don't know enough about on where to start! Yes, I can hit up the members of the band, but I also want to know Goons' feelings.

Sweet Spirit: https://sweetspirittheband.bandcamp.com/ Austin, TX I was not sure considering Austin's scene involves some pretty big people, and they recently got to record with Britt Daniel... but I don't give a poo poo about Spoon. gently caress Spoon aside from the songs I heard on the "Stranger than Fiction" soundtrack. This is a group of people who I saw in a crowded, MPLS basement, and just made me melt. I'm really pumped because they're coming back to us in a few weeks.
THEIR RECORD: It's been a couple years in the process and it's just perfect.

The faces he makes while posting are inexcusable! When he writes a post his face is like a troll double checking bones to see if there's any meat left! When I post I look like a peacock softly kissing a rose! Didn't his parents provide him with a posting mirror to practice forums faces growing up?
Location: Phoenix, AZ

Genre: "Emotional Indie Punk"

Might sound similar to: Modern Baseball, The Menzingers

My friends are in a band, and I think they're pretty rad. On the release of their second EP, the lead singer stated “Being in recovery and having struggled with depression in the past always makes things harder, but these songs are my way of letting it out and realizing that you can get through just about anything without going down a dark path.” Their stuff has legit helped me through some rough spots, which is the coolest feeling when it's some of your best friends who're making it.

They'll be on tour at the end of July.
