It's not a terrible thing by itself but it's obnoxious and it's often a sign that a lovely thread full of people with extreme opinions on the translations of a game not yet released is fast approaching. Waifu chat is one of the minibosses in the game of lovely games forum drama.

It's just filler when there's no new info about game. That's fine even if the joke is awful and lasts like several pages.

What makes them awful is the same sorta thing that killed the WiiU thread comes up and basically any sides are summed up in single posts and everything after is one giant slap fight.
