its not bad its just needless saddled with a controls learning curve so that those who spend the time to master it will annoy us forever over how we are overlooking a true classic....that is...just exactly...like sf64...only not as good.

finished off shantae and the pirates curse tonight. interesting departure from risky's revenge. traded in the metroidvania structure of the world for more of a mega man style stage-based structure with hidden power ups along the critical path. got rid of the multi layered foreground/background maps. amped up the difficulty considerably in terms of traversal challenges, bosses, and enemy placements. i hope the newest game later this year is as good as the previous two and keeps innovating.

I thought id never get another zelda in the ww art style and was pretty happy with its translation to handheld. That close the ds to make a map puzzle stumped me pretty good for a while. Felt like psycho mantis in my zelda.

You will take damage in that part. the characters turn and dash is not fast enough to do it perfectly unless you are god like. If you make it through you get a one hit ko

Lunchmeat Larry posted:I managed eventually. Feel like the delay on the dash is a bit too much for that sequence to feel like... not cheap difficulty, but whatever, it's done. Yeah the game has some questionable level design in it that is pretty annoying in places and i sympathize with kotaku guy even though he is super dumb to write an article about how big a pussy he is. Ultimately im pretty cool on the game. Its really up its own rear end for such shallow gameplay. In the fights. It feels like playing simon says. I like technical reactive games but usually they have more leeway and room for creativity in how you play.

CJacobs posted:The problem with the item gambling for irl money is that it's not done through Steam so Valve doesn't get a cut, which is also another reason why they have no accountability for it happening. They have nothing to do with the "business" side of it either. The gambling drives purchases of skins from valve. Their loot model will likely need to change in the future to avoid legislation targeting this activity

Snak posted:Yeah I heard that was really good. Due to generally poor spending habits, I think Ill have to wait until its on sale (again?), though. Its pretty much limbo with graphics for 3 hours but with a super goofy end sequence that makes you feel badass in the last 20 minutes. Id say its overhyped in terms of gameplay and the puzzles are fairly basic but everything is well presented. Its not goty unless you are a lazy aging game reviewer who favors easy short games, but its worth the 5 dollars most people will pay for it next summer in the steam sale

Snak posted:Yeah. Its just crazy to me how some people that play the same games as me have a totally different internal experience with them. i also have a really bad eye for things on screen and always miss animations, but i still play fighters a lot and do ok because practice really pays off there more than anything and also you are dealing with a human who can be conditioned and confused by your play. Also its really common that players who start to learn what they should be doing in a fighting game start to lose badly to players that don't know poo poo. when you know what you should be doing but haven't mastered it it is even harder to play well and react to someone else. just keep playing and your effort will pay off.
